Shahsiyet (2018)
Exceptional performance from Haluk Bilginer
Exceptional performance from Haluk Bilginer playing the main character. Also good acting performances from Sebnem Bozoklu and Hümeyra, especially. Visual side, cinematography and the overall production is also good. The story is interesting, but the details and the scenario couldn't surpass the Turkish drama clichés. Some characters, events and situations are not realistic at all. That will be more apparent of course for those audience who know how things work in Turkey, especially in Istanbul. Unnecessary social messages, baseless philosophical remarks can be found throughout the story. It was entertaining nevertheless. It would not be so for me without Haluk Bilginer's performance though.
G.O.R.A. (2004)
Quite entertaining movie with an outstanding comedian
Cem Yilmaz has been the most outstanding comedian during the last 10 years in Turkey and he continues to do so. What he did so far is a great achievement and Turkish people knows that. He primarily makes stand-up shows but he is also busy with writing and acting; in which he is very successful in my opinion.
The movie here looks like it's all around Cem Yilmaz, but we must say that the other people of the movie did their job just as successful.
This a sci-fi and a comedy movie. Cem Yilmaz plays a typical Turkish guy who runs a carpet shop. He is also busy with producing fake UFO photos. Then he is taken by an alien spaceship and transported to the planet Gora.
The situation of a typical Turkish guy in a sci-fi environment was quite funny for me, but also I guess that a non-Turkish viewer would find it just as funny. Other characters are acting quite well. Ceku (Ozge Ozberk) is gorgeous.
This is the biggest budget used in a Turkish movie so far, so don't expect poor scenes behind.
The Punisher (2004)
The story is not unusual but I found it entertaining
I've never read the comic nor did I see the former versions of The Punisher. For me, the movie was quite entertaining, maybe just because I like that kind of style. The story is not unusual, a former FBI agent seeks revenge after his whole family are "executed" by a mafia organization, he kills them all extravagantly and finally becomes "The Punisher".
Thomas Jane is though but I've seen better actors in similar roles. The relationship between Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) and Joan (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) looks unnecessary. The fight between Frank Castle and the Russian killer looks is like a comedy scene, which is in much contrast with the general style of the movie.
