Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
JJ sucks
Rian Johnson would do it better. Its far from the best Star Wars movie, but it's good, is not that bad, unfortunately it is kinda a step back from The Last Jedi, the way they ended 42 years of history it's weak yet respectful, a noble and emotional ending for the Skywalker Saga.
Rey's arc was so good, and you ruin it?
C3PO I love you
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Once Upon a Time... another Tarantino's GOOD movie
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, is a manifest of Tarantino's love for the Seventh Art in the best way possible, with all the cameos and references of cinema. The plot focuses on a masculine and bulletproof relationship during the 60s, that consist on a misdirected stunt double (Brad Pitt) and an outdated actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), parallel to the female protagonist (or onlooker) Sharon Tate, portrayed by Margot Robbie with an immaculate and human touch.
Tarantino criticizes the hippies community and their "flower power", he also lifted a middle finger for all the anti-smoking people, and ignored the car pollution, being one of the themes: "the feeling of driving a car, while smoking a Red Apple and harassing every woman on the sidewalk."
With a fast resolution, counterproductive and hard to finish, a fantastic soundtrack with a powerful production design, Tarantino open us a visual window for all this 60s generation, being "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" not a movie about a story lived in LA at the 60s, but a movie about LA in the 60s.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Miley Cyrus but in a Black Mirror universe
The most awaited and the worst. This episode shows the degradation of the music industry and also we are able to do a parallel with Miley Cyrus in her life of Hannah Montanna, Disney is her uncle and she is forced to be that pinky little girl that all the teenagers love, but one day, she choose to get the hell out of that box.
Something happens to her and we need a hologram to sing for her.
What's more interesting is the fact that there was this technology to create the holograms version of the artist, that can play huge stadiums every night of the week, the days when musicians needed to cancel shows are gone. This is a guaranteed cash cow. And isn't that every music label's dream in an era where selling out humongous venues and continuous, large-scale tours are pretty much the only way to make money?
The problem with this episode isn't so much that it doesn't have anything to say, but rather that it refuses to truly engage with the ramifications of its premise. With a weak plot and a lot of funny moments it goes from a sci-fi drama to a Sunday afternoon comedy.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
A MARVELOUS END GAME
After 11 years and 22 movies, Marvel Studios brought us the most ambitious movie, the greatest culmination, it is nostalgic, sentimental and completely unexpected. All the characters are so well-balanced, to each one is given plenty of screen time to development. If you're a marvel fan you'll feel like you're finally complete, you've never seen anything like this before, there are many references to all the 22 movies and there is a certain inevitability about the plot, there are plenty surprises. The movie present us an incredible balancing between nostalgia and novelty, you will scream, laugh and cry, it is the Marvel recipe elevated to the highest level. There's just so much in it, that I can't even write about it without spoiling everything. This is not the end for Marvel, but it certainly marks an ending for several of the characters we've watched and loved over the last decade, there will be more superhero franchises but it's hard to imagine any one being so culturally resonant.
It is the grande finale.
Unicorn Store (2017)
Why are we stuck in the cave if we can fly?
Brie Larson opened up her colorful mind and brought us a film about individual affirmation, where art and "neverland" come together as one. A wonderful duo in an inspiring movie.
