A thoroughly charming film
13 September 2002
This is a completely charming movie about a little girl's attempts to use traditional Chinese magic to improve her mother's life. Valerie Tian completely steals the show in the role of the little girl. Sandra Oh and Chang Tseng also give good performances, as you would expect.

Excellent

I hope that Ken Burns sees this film. This is how music documentaries should be made. They gave historical context, and they played the songs. But they never talked through the music or cut it into tiny fragments the way Burns did in his horrible "Jazz" series.
