Grey's Anatomy: We've Only Just Begun (2024)
Season 20, Episode 1

This new show runner is cooking
16 March 2024
This episode of greys was on a level of quality that I feel we haven't seen in a hot minute. The writing is really strong especially the pacing the episode is jumping from scene to scene, sequence to sequence seamlessly. All characters have something to do and all the actors give it their all. It also feels like the budget has increased as the show feels on a larger scale whether or not that's the case it was nice to see either way. I really enjoyed this episode and it felt like old greys this is making me really hopeful for season 20 and whatever comes after the fact. All the actors really do a good job and the ending was an amazing throw back.

Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road (2023)
Season 1, Episode 0
5/10
Rocky start
25 December 2023
Whilst I really like the new doctor and Ruby this episode just felt off. I respect big creative swings which this episode is but it's largely a miss- so much happens but nothing happens? It just felt messy the musical elements were nice but detracted from the episode. The directing at point felt very amateur and cheap it definitely feels like this episode had a much smaller budget than the past three. On the grounds it's a campy Xmas special I'm more forgiving for this episodes downfalls but I will not revisit it any time soon and I desperately hope this isn't a forecast of what's to come and is more of a misguided accident.

Hell it was fun
11 November 2023
Was this movie perfect? Hell no the plot was thin and there wasn't much character development but Damm did I have a good time watching this movie and that's what it's all about. I had a smile across my face for the entire 1 hr 45 minute runtime. All the characters are very likeable Kamala and her family being the standouts, the action is some of the best post endgame, the visuals are really strong and the camera movement was really well done. The villain although weak and forgettable actually had good motivations and the story was simple anyone who says it's too messy or doesn't make sense must be a bit daft because it was thin but very obvious. In short the marvels is short and sweet and if you're in the mood to have fun at the cinema this is the film to see.

American Horror Stories: Tapeworm (2023)

A disgusting episode with one hell of a message
26 October 2023
It was refreshing to see American horror stories take on a social message that being the modelling industry and how toxic it is for women and whilst it is admittedly very surface level it was still really good to see. This episode has some stellar performances and cool visuals but I wouldn't be lying if I said the tape work "transformation" was a bit of a let down it only really picked up in the second half of the episode and didn't last long enough to leave a sufficient impact. The body horror elements here were really cool and knowing that it's some what drawn from real life made it even more horrifying. Overall tape worm had a really cool concept and a lot of cool moments but the episode itself doesn't fully work as well as it could.

Mixed bag
26 October 2023
Having Gwyneth Paltrow on Ahs was an absolutely awesome addition to this episode. However this episode itself was a tiny bit of a mess a fun chaotic funny mess but still a mess. Shades of season 1 and 2s messy writing rears it's ugly head but there are moments throughout the episode that are strong enough to still make this a good entry into American horror stories. Using lockdown for a different disease wasn't a choice I would personally make it takes me out of the episode especially when the disease is low-key bird box light but it's fine the disease wasn't really overly used. The characters are likeable but the story kinda lacks and actual horror moment, the only scary part of the episode was an accidental death.

First episode that feels like it fully works
26 October 2023
American horror stories bestie is one hell of an opening episode it's well acted, well directed and decently written. The episode is 52 minutes and uses the most of it that it can yes there is some minor pacing issues and and annoying writing tricks it flows a lot better than any episode of ahstories since its beginning. The acting here is outstanding the lead character Shelly is extremely likeable and tragic watching her over this episode was painful and come the end of the episode I was invested in her story. This episode is the only episode except necro that has a character in that I actually cared about and was invested in. This episode also had some amazing visuals with some very pretty shots and good sounds design.

We are back
24 September 2023
American horror story delicate gets off to a solid start filled with amazing cinematography, really cool set design and a killer performance from Kim Kardashian and Emma roberts. There is a lot of ground laying this episode and it's very obvious but the writing as a whole is a lot stronger here than the past two ahs seasons. This is by far one of the best season premieres AHS has had in a while and this season is full of promise the horror is subtle but well weaved into the story, this episode as a whole was more creepy that anything in America horror story NYC. That being said if this season is going to continue to be a slow burn I worry if it will be able to maintain its viewership but overall a really solid start.

Marvels worst show to date
27 July 2023
In theory secret invasion could've worked on a small scale a political thriller following Nick Fury and his allies as he tried to uncover a skrull conspiracy but due to poor writing and mediocre directing it falls flat on its face. The mcu can do political thrillers we know this as seen with some of its greatest content like captain America the winter soldier. But that magic and writing is non existent here instead we get a boring, messy and try hard superhero show trying it's best to disguise itself as a deep and clever thriller, infact some of secret invasions strongest moments is when it drops the thriller facade and is just an action comic book show. However that happens rarely. The whole plot here feels forced like a series of events happening for no real reason other than to serve a larger narrative, nothing feels natural, I'm aware of why Gravik wants to destroy humanity but at the same time it just feels unnatural and sloppily written. The show is always trying to hard to seem more than it is when in reality it is painfully surface level it says a lot when agents of shield (a network show with a quarter of the budget and no skrulls) tells a better secret invasion story with high levels of paranoia and emotional investment. Secret invasion outside its first episode and the ending of its last one lacks any paranoia of if a character is a skrull or not. One of this shows main character is a skrull from the moment we meet them and instead of the reveal being shocking not only is it frustrating it's obvious from the moment we meet them. One of secret invasions most annoying traits is sacrificing characters and character development in service for shock value, there characters here are completely ruined in service of shock and it's painful and frustrating to watch. Another frustrating trait of the show is sewing the seeds for what's next for these characters but due to how large the mcu is as of late we have no ideas of when we are next going to get those answers. The show just suffers from being pointless. Also for a show that cost 200 million plus dollars for six fairly short episodes it looked painfully cheap with cw shows with 10% of the budget looking better at points the direction is painfully uninspired say what you will about she hulk and ms marvel but atleast the direction was somewhat inspired.

Also several shots form the trailers are missing here and the show introduces and element in episode five that feels awkwardly forced in I have a feeling the last three episodes of this were completely overhauled with reshoots and it's very obvious from the trailer back in September that a lot of This show was changed.

Now the show does have some pros and that being the cast particularly Olivia Coleman who saves several episodes with her phenomenally funny performance I could watch her character all day and it's a shame she was settled with such an awful show. Samuel Jackson and Ben Mendelson also do a nice job here but Nicky fury shockingly lacks a fully fledged arc he does get some development here but no where near as much as other leads of their mcu shows. Emilia Clark is largely wasted in this show being given an unlikable and kinda pointless role up until the final episode, Kingsley Ben-Adair tries his best but is ultimately an awful villain. Cobie Smulders Maria Hill is absolutely wasted here to the point where I would have rather just not have had her in the show, the disrespect towards her character was shocking and easily this shows worst crime she does however do an phenomenal job in the small part she has. Everyone else does their jobs however the choice to advertise Martin Freeman as a big part in this show was shocking considering he had around 4 minutes of actual screen time.

Pointless and wasteful is how I'd describe marvels secret invasion with no direction and likely no actual ramifications on the mcu as a whole.

Cool action scene but unmmm what a waste
26 July 2023
Whilst this episode has an awesome action scene one of the best we've had in a Disney plus show to date. The rest is just well mediocre? Secret invasion now stands as marvels most pointless exercise to date killing characters it didn't need to in service of an undeserving narrative. This episode leaves to many unanswered question something we can't afford to have in the mcu at the moment as we have no actual idea when these questions will be answered. Performances as always were great and Emilia Clark was really able to finally get her moment in this episode and I'm actually really excited to see where G'iah goes next but that's the issue we as an audience have no idea when we are going to see her next.

Secret Invasion: Beloved (2023)

Strongest episode yet
12 July 2023
Secret invasions first three episodes whilst decent have been a bit patchy some scenes were phenomenal some were awful. This is the first episode where I felt not a single scene felt weirdly written or directed in fact this episodes short running time might be it's biggest strength- every scene is intense and it runs well with the shows growing conflict. And they topped it all off with a thrilling action scene and another huge cliff hanger. Several scenes here especially between nick and his wife were amazing and very intense. One of my biggest issues with the show at this point is that it feels a bit cheap the cgi, sets the budget we had for the older marvel shows like wandavision and Loki are long gone and whilst it's not the shows fault you can tell.

I love 40 minues of this movie the other 70 I do not
19 February 2023
Peyton Reed said that when creating this movie he wanted to make an avengers level movie. Well, he failed miserably. Too blinded by the direction that the movie needs to point the MCU in it gets lost in itself with a messy plot and uninspired mediocre direction. The movie was Sold in the trailers as a qauntum realm hiest for scott to try and complete for his rewards to more time with his daughter. Well i'd like to see that movie because this is not it. Instead we get a tiny hiest that lasts 5 minutes and an awful tory about a rebellion full of characters no one could care less about. Kang makes for an intresting villain and is one of the stronger mcu villians but he is ultimately undermined by the story, we keep getting told 'oh he's so evil' but we rarely get to see that side of him. But oh when we do it is this movie at it's best.

The script has some very nice lines and floats out some nice ideas however, the script as a whole is just awful. It's either expostion or messy one liners or just Cassie saying 'dad' in a monotone voice with no facial expression. None of the characters have an arc none of them get any real development, there are hints of Scott having a possible arc but we never see it. Instead character development is erased in service of the plot, but the plot is so messy that it doesn't help. The movie lacks a general structure it feels like so much has happened, but nothing has happened. In addition by the time the movie ended i just struggled to see the point. If marvel wanted to spend a whole moive setting up Kang as the next big bad atleast have the story be good, atleast make us as the audience invested. Kang is meant to be our next big bad but not once did i fear for our heroes.

The direction as a whole is a mixed bag Reed delivers some nice shots but overall there are alot of shots that are just awful. Some moments were so badly directed I couldn't tell what I was looking at and not in a good way. I know the qauntum real is difficult to pull off in live action but the CGI was so obvious at points that the movie felt like it was being directed by VFX artists. When you look at 2022's mcu movies despite their issues they all visually had something going for them, this does not. Furthermore, the movies action is lacking i can't think of any memorable action peices in the movie they're all over before they can even begin.

The cast for the most part were brilliant especially Majors and Pfieffer. Newton is the weakest link in this cast but the script and direction don't do her any favours so I can't fully judge them.

I did enjoy the opening of the movie and i thought it was nice just see Scott Lang being Scott Lang and seeing his life post avengers. Then when we fully got to see Kang introduced and have his first interactions with Scott I really love but after 20 minutes it all fell apart.

It's called the last of us for a reason
17 February 2023
This episode was beautiful, the cinematography, score, acting was top tier this episode is Emmy worthy and will likely be used by hbo to get this show awards. The only issues with this episode is it doesn't help to push the plot forward massively but what we got was just so good I frankly don't care. As a gay person myself being able to see an authentic gay romance that isn't forced, or based off of homophobia it was just nice to see. In addition I love how it further fleshes out (briefly) Tess and Joel's relationship, and this episode in general really helped to drive home the impact of losing tess on Joel. Just a phenomenal episode.

Small town big secrets
17 February 2023
Made of Easttown gave its audience a look at a middle age detective as her life crumbles around her, something that I never imagined in my wildest dreams would end up being one of the best tv shows ever created. Kate Winselt is the star of this show giving us a brutal but human performance we feel her pain, we feel her exhaustion we revel in her small moments of happiness. The rest of the cast is phenomenal and everyone is at the top of their game. Watching the story unfold episode to episode was a thrilling journey as we saw Mare get slowly consumed in a tragic murder case that we wish she never solved.

They pulled it together just in Time for the finale
17 November 2022
This episode was emotionally powerful and thoughtful showing several characters on their death beds and seeing their past was just such a great idea. The cinematography this episode was also really good with this gritty realness yet hopeful light flushing the scenes. We got to see more of underused actors here and it was a great choice being able to fully understand almost all of our characters. There is a tragedy in this episode watching peoples lives flash before their eyes the plot at this point its just about wrapping up the character arcs and the show as a whole and this is going to have a very dark and brutal ending.

Tender, human, tragic and Beautiful
11 November 2022
The biggest compliment I can give this film is just how human it feels, you can feel the grief and sadness pouring through every shot. But perhaps the best part of this movie is the grief isn't used to make it good the story is compelling, Namor is a great villain and Shuris arc in the course of this movie was amazing and some of marvels best character arc. Seeing wakanda vs Tolkan (sorry if misspelled) was thrilling and both sides had really good points and arguments. The performances across the board were perfect and riri made a great addition to the movie. I do have some issues with the movie however the action at points can be a bit generic and in the third act there's a montage used to try and get the characters ready for the final battle and feels a bit lazy. But aside from that this has to be one of the better marvel movies and worthy successor to the original black panther.

What felt like a promising season seems to be crashing down
11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so last episode it was all coming together we had our next big monster. It was all coming together, but then the show does away with the whole killer story in the first 13 minutes? Sis that whole thing was just wasted time? I did really like the monologue at the end of the episode and I thought it was really empowering. But why spend two episodes effectively setting something up for it not to happen? Like I know the shows cheap to make but the couldn't afford one big set piece? Then to add to this out disease story line has become plot line A now so they're trying to make up for lost time. Hannah, Adam and dean teaming up was something I really loved the idea of but now Hannah's dead? It really wasn't clear but I'm guessing she is. I know the virus and big daddy is a metaphor for hiv and aids and how it can get anyone but why did the first two principle character deaths have to be women? We already have a tiny female cast this season and now you've just killed half of them off? Hannah will hopefully come back in episode but I think she's dead which is a shame because I really like the character.

The cinematography, performances and script were good here even if I didn't like the choices made. I can't help but feel this season jsut a bit of a mis step from the team. It's too much all at once, no one's watching it because they've made no effort to advertise it. I worry for the future of ahs.

Now converge
3 November 2022
All of our plot lines are starting to converge and it is glorious. I really loved this episodes mystic vibe, we get to focus more on Fran, Hannah, Adam and Kathy and the episode benefits greatly from this. Getting to spend valuable time with these characters fleshes out the story and in turn makes the audience more invested. This episode also focuses more on the disease aspect of the season allowing us as the audience to feel a sense of impending doom because by the rate it's spreading I'd be shocked if anyone makes it out of this one alive. Our lead killer has a small role In this episode but his scene at the end was amazing the actor does such a good job of just being so naturally Terrifying. I'm not sure about the big reveal at the end but I'm open to it and am excited to see what happens with it.

Hell I'm enjoying it
27 October 2022
Is it the best ahs season? No. Is it the worse? No far from it. In fact I'd say this is one of the far better ahs seasons which is a shame because no one seems to be watching it. The storylines are very interesting especially the disease one. The serial killer story is starting to take more of a shape and I'm here for it. Although the bdsm stuff is kinda weird word and not my vibe but whatever. The cinematography is really good this episode with some really interesting shot choices one in particular being the wide shot of russle tovey by the phone. So overall it's going on aces and I'm here for it.

No around of fan service can save this
23 October 2022
I really had hope for this episode I thought maybe this era could end with a bang. It didn't, it didn't even end with a whimper it ended in a self indulgent implosion.

So we get two companions back from the past as a bit of nostalgia bait and it couldn't have gone any worse. Not only are Tegan and Ace awfully written the acting can't rise above it. The performances on the whole here is just awful. Apart from the master Sachas performance here is so strong he over comes any awful writing Chris Chibnall throws at him.

So what's the plot of this episode? Well let's just say everything, everywhere all at once is a great description for this episode and not in a good way. So much is going on and not in a good way it's just awful, the story tries to hide it with cameos of old doctors but everything else is so awful it doesn't make up for it. When fan service takes priority over story it's almost always a disaste especially here. In addition none of the characters actually speak like people it's just exposition exposition.

Well all I can say now thank god it's over and let's get back to well written doctor who.

Now we're cooking
23 October 2022
After the first episodes barrage of new characters and storylines we can finally get into it more. Whilst I still feel the script is struggling to balance its themes and characters this episode is quite strong. Once again the cast are brilliant and it was nice to see Rebecca Dyan joining our roster of characters. This episode further develops the themes and gives us plenty of hints of what's to come and by all means it is good. It's interesting, dark and a good watch.

I do understand the need for multiple villains but right now we have like 4? And instead of feeling clever it feels a bit like the writers are just trying to write conflict to keep the story moving. That being said I can see how it will tie together so I'll give it more time before I fully judge this part. And the new one we meet this episode (we will call him jeffery dahmer rip off) is very interesting and scary.

Of our two storylines the disease ones definitely gotten the short of the stick which is fair because it mainly only follows one character, but the lack of development can make it feel pointless. But I love billie Lourd so I don't care. She's great and Hannah is an intriguing character. The development at the end of the episode has positioned it well for the next few episodes.

We are only at the start of this story and I'm excited to see it develop week to week I just hope the ahs fans who are watching for campy over the top violence, comedy and sex can stick with this. Despite being advertised as a bdsm sex season Id say so far it's actually been pretty tame which is Both a strength as story gets priority and a weakness as said story isn't as smart as it wants to be.

American Horror Story: Something's Coming (2022)
Season 11, Episode 1

Pacing disaster
20 October 2022
Ok so we begin this season with two main storylines and loads of characters. The issue is the writers don't know how to introduce it all at once so as a pilot it feels a bit like a failure in the introduction aspect, however it does heavily entice me for what's next. The serial killer story is off to a strong start with some gruesome murders, but there's too many characters tied into one story in turn it leads to a lot of actors getting the short end of the stick. Russel Tovey is a great addition to AHS.and shines as one of our main leads. Now our next storyline is a hidden disease story line that follows predominantly Billie Lourds Hannah, as always Lourd is a treat and it was great to see her taking a main role again after last seasons disappointment. There's a lot of potential for this story arc but I haven't seen enough to fully judge it yet.

In conclusion the ideas, cast and story is there but there's so much the script kind of collapses in on itself. However this issues should hopefully resolve as the story progresses.

House of the Dragon: The Green Council (2022)
Season 1, Episode 9
9/10
As we close off season one
17 October 2022
House of the dragon has made the smart choice to use our finale two episodes to explore both sides of this brewing civil war and what an episode this one is. Firstly, the performances here from everyone were just phenomenal Cooke, Beast and Mitchell being particular stand outs. Seeing the greens form their battle path to ensure aegons reign was thrilling and brutal to watch unfold.

Giving the greens a whole episode really allowed us to further understand them as characters and what drives them. Otto is once again a leading force in this war and he makes for a great antagonist. I love how Alicent is still in the grey zone she knows what needs to be done but doesn't have the strength to do it. The father and daughter dynamic really works to this episodes strength.

There was one scene in this episode that was just wired and if you watched it you know but ummm yeah.

Very very good episode.

This is the show we came for
6 October 2022
This episode of she hulk is what this show should've been from the start and it's very frustrating it's only starting to come together at the end of its run. It's not secret this episode was helped by daredevil who is a great addition to this episode. He had great quips but brought a much needed serious tone the show needed. The action in this episode is on the whole ok with some dodgy cgi flips bringing it down. Jen and Matt have great chemistry and it was great to watch them grow closer over the course of the episode part of me wishes it was a joint show for the two of them. That being said the parts of the episode daredevil wasn't in were also pretty great the end reveal was shocking. Despite all the positive things I have for this episode it doesn't feel like the penultimate episode and I'm very worried about the finale.

Woah what an episode
1 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start off the acting is amazing madison gives the best performance we've seen yet on this show as a compelling protagonist with fascinating intentions. The writing here is a lot stronger than we've seen on this show previously, the people talk like actual people for once. At it's core this episode is a gross love story and I'm here for it conversations about the journey of death is really interesting. Sams back story is tragic and really helps drive her character intentions and trauma and madison puts her soul into a brilliant performance. Although the sex with dead bodies thing was painful to watch. And thankfully no stupid twist. In conclusion I really respect everyone on this episode for going as far as they did and exploring some gross stuff.

Great performances, cool body horror and a solid story make up for the episodes messy pacing and short run time. For once the twist in this episode actually feels earned and made sense. It's sad because I'm praising something that should be the norm for this show but it isn't. As far as this episode goes I enjoyed it.
