Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022)
Oscar performance by Naomi Ackie
I wasn't excpecting to love this film as much as I did. First thing to point out is the music; They have incorporated an important amount of live performances in this biopic! And could they have not?? This is a Whitney Houston's biopic, I cannot understand how people could think there were too many songs in this film. If I don't hear Whitney Houston's voice most of the film then what is even the point?
I think there was a certain humility and kindness in the way she was portrayed. The drug abuse, the alcohol, the toxic relationship etc... Was not shown in a tabloïd like manner, there was no voyeurism in it, it was very sad and moving but they gave Whitney Houston dignity and I think it's the most important thing.
I think Naomi Ackie did the most brilliant and authentic portrait of Whitney. And she will definitely get a Golden Globes and Oscar nomination!! She deserves it!!
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Brilliant.
I was excpecting this film to be extremely bad. Since for some of the reviews act like this is the worst film to have ever been made.
So, I was shocked when I actually saw the film and thought it was brilliant!
But then I remember that Harry Styles fans are toxic AF and sexism is alive and well!
First of all the cinematography was incredible. This is a beautiful film, the shots are great, the fashion is amazing, everything is set to make you believe it is the setting for the perfect family life.
I think Florence Pugh was excellent, a flawless performance showing a brilliant range of emotions!
I liked the ending, I didn't need to see proof of Alice succeeding. I think the ending spoke for itself!
I really enjoyed this thriller and I think Olivia Wild did great. There is loads of hateful 1/10 reviews just for the sake of hating on the director which is stupid!
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Rather boring...
I was excpecting more... So much more than what we got!!
What was missing to me was a big magic battle! The one between Grindelwald and Dumbledore was very predictable and not exciting at all!! Also it happened so fast... Withing a few minutes it was over!! Basically it was missing of magic.... Which is rather odd for a film about wizards and witches...
Tina was definitely missed in this film and so was Queenie!! Even if we see her a bit with Grindelwald she's not much present in the film... I think that introducing new characters was not really useful they should have used who we already knew from the 2 previous films and work with their storylines...
What was the point of having Queenie going on the dark side if just to not see her do anything with Grindelwald besides listening to people's mind and reporting to him?? What a waste of a great character!! The worst for me was the end with no explanation on why Queenie went with them and why she abandoned Jacob.... Next thing you know they're getting married and she's back to being all happy and bright and joyful... It didn't make sense to me!
In terms of production I think it's of great quality, very pleased to see Hogwarts, it gave me a nostalgic feeling and hearing 'Hedwig's theme' in the film is always to me emotional and I love it. So not all bad at all but could have done so much better!
Respect (2021)
Mixed feelings!
Jennifer Hudson's singing was epic! As usual! I felt she captured the emotions and charisma of Aretha on stage so well!
Now, the way the events happens I think it was just messy, I got confused with the timeline! The first half of the film is basically a concert of songs after songs after songs with very little context.
Everything happens so fast in the sense of the songs come right after one another without a break but Aretha's story, all of what she went through come at such a slow pace to the point where we don't get anything after 1972!!!
Aretha passed away in 2018 there is a gap of over 40 years that basically appeared on the screen informing us of all the awards and honours she won in a final scene with some photos right before the end credits!!!
The trailer was so promising, but I am disappointed, this could have easily been an 8 or 9 or even 10/10 biopic! But in my opinion it definitely falls short for an Oscar nomination.
Black Widow (2021)
Great film!
4th time seeing Black Widow at the cinema and I can't get enough!!
I've loved it from beginning to end, Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh made an astounding duo! Fantastic chemistry of the 2 actresses on screen! And Rachel Weisz and David Harbour completed the cast perfectly!!
I usually enjoy MCU films but Black Widow is above the rest in my opinion! There was a perfect mix of action and funny moments. Florence's character have most of the best lines, she shines through this film but without stealing the spotlight from Natasha!
I don't get the bad reviews, bad cgi, bad acting, too late for her to have her film etc... Really?? Misoginy at its worse! Somehow not surprised!!
It was about time to get the focus on 2 female heroes!!! Not to mention how Disney did them dirty with the release on Disney+
I had a great 4 times seeing it and it's very likely that I will see it again!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Beautiful and fun!
I don't understand the 1/10 reviews, seriously. This film was good! Not perfect but it was still a good film.
Hating Just for the sake of hating is beyond ridiculous!
I was actually hesitating to go and see it when I saw all the 1/10 reviews I didn't want to waste my time but I'm glad I went because I would have missed out on something good!!
First of all the visuals were amazing just that made the film worth watching! The story had some incoherence but nothing major! It was definitely an interesting storyline and it was a good change! Very different to the other Disney films and that was refreshing!
Greta (2018)
Good ending
Very slow first half of the film but it get better and the pace speed up on the second half.
It was not a bad film but the storyline/plot could have been much better explored!
Frances makes some incoherent decisions: The first one would have been not to block Greta's number... Seriously wouldn't it be the first thing to do if someone was harassing you on the phone!! Second was to meet Greta at the church to get rid of her... Like if she was going to be reasonable and understanding??
Also no consequences for Greta after the scene she made at the restaurant, she just got released from the police station like that??
It's a shame because I thought both Isabelle Hupert and Chloe Grace Moretz were great in their roles but the storyline was a bit off at times!
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Exhausting to watch but good!
I'm glad I watched this film in my living room with the volume low and not at the cinema.
The dialogues were a bit on and off to me. It was a bit hard to keep up at times with all the shouting and swearing. Sometimes a bit too scholar on Marie's side, like she was reading her lines.
That said, I think the acting was really good. Enough to keep me captivated during the whole time. It felt authentic.
The aesthetic in general was raw and really beautiful.
Sightless (2020)
Good!
It was a good thriller! Madeleine Petsch was on point. The film was just long enough. The outcome -even though predictable- made sense!
Happiest Season (2020)
Good!
I enjoyed this film. I think the cast was very good, scenes between Kristen Stewart and Daniel Levy were funny. Good chemistry between characters. I enjoyed the storyline.
I'm glad nothing happened between Abby and Riley, to me it would have been an unnecessary complication.
The Prom (2020)
Camp and irresistible!!!
I don't understand the 1 star reviews, just watching the trailer gives it all away. You know what you're signing up for!! If you dont like musicals, cheesy, camp, singing etc......... Then dont watch it!!! So easy!!
Ok so first of all there was a loooot of tears. But let me say this. MERYL STREEP. She is a delight. And I was worried about her performance because Beth Leavel's voice in The original Broadway version is so extra and sharp. And I can't help comparing. But I think she did an amazing job, I was not worried about the acting (obviously she's Meryl) but the singing I mean I know she's a good singer, and it's one thing to sing Mamma Mia but it's another to sing The Lady's Improving!! So 5 stars for Meryl!!
I love Nicole Kidman and I think her character was breezy and peachy but I wanted more of her!! I loved her version of Zazz!! But it was not enough screentime!!
You know what James Corden didn't even annoy me. Usually he's always hyped up and he gets on my nerve but he was fine this time!! My only issue is that his character could have been played with more depth, but as a straight man I understand he might not have wanted to overdo it. The best thing in my opinion would have been to cast a gay actor.
It was basically everything I wanted it to be. So I'm not complaining at all. It was camp and full of sequins!! The Prom scene at the end was shouting DIVERSITY!!!! And I'm loving it, seeing all the Queer kids go to the prom waaaaas sooooooo cute the last 15 minutes I was fully sobbing!!! I think it was just the right amount of humour and the exact right amount of seriousness due to the subject and I think it was sooo beautiful!!!
Jo Ellen Pellman was perfect as Emma, her voice is so beautiful and she gave such a strong and emotional performance. It was so well balanced!!
Ryan Murphy is really good with colour pattern, all of his shows have this pastel colour theme. This film was pretty much the same, the cinematography is always on point with Ryan Murphy and he did not disappoint!!! It's always so colourful and bold and tacky but in a good way!!
The Prom sends a message of self acceptance and tells Queer people to be proud of who they are!!
