Snobby reviews are misleading
1 April 2022
So I went into this movie with low expectations thinking it wouldn't be great & I wouldn't like it because I happened to glance at some of the reviews & ratings here right before I saw the movie.

Now that I've seen it, I swear I'm convinced that some reviewers here are either so snobby and elitist or they're just plain cynical and/or didn't actually watch the movie and just assumed it was bad because it's a comic book movie that Jared Leto is in.

'Cause the truth is it was so good! Not perfect, but waaay better than what those low ratings, negative reviewers will have you think. I mean just because something doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to be, doesn't mean it's not good. So please grow up and stop with the negativity.

This movie was entertaining, the way that Morbius and his movement & powers are depicted is so cool. Yeah the plot is predictable but it's an origin story movie, it's supposed to be simple and predictable, it's only an intro to the character, so be patient. Jared Leto did wonderfully with the character. His performance felt so natural & unforced. The character suits him pretty well. The CGi was good, the fight/action scenes were smooth and captivating. Yes, it would've been even cooler to see a darker R-rated version of the story, but again, that doesn't make it bad. And it was still fairly dark for a PG-13 movie too.

In a way, I'm glad I went into this thinking it would be bad 'cause it was a pleasant surprise for me that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So don't listen to anyone and go see it and judge for yourself because some ratings and reviewes are not always reliable, they tend to be too negative these days. And keep in mind that some of them might rate it down just 'cause they don't like Jared Leto or another actor in it. Or they're unfairly judging the whole movie based on the mid-credit scenes which have nothing to do with the plot of the movie. Or just 'cause they wanna complain, since that's everyone's favorite pass time lately.

The movie was good, it's doing fairly well in the box office so far, and definitely deserves a higher rating. Watch it with an open mind and enjoy!

Entertaining with great acting

First of all, to the reviewers pointing out how unrealistic it is for young adolescents to be better detectives than actual detectives, um.. where have you been living in recent years? Of course they are! It's so much easier to get information when you don't have to wait for permission or follow the rules or get warrants or have real grounds for motive.. Doesn't make them actually better, just faster. And t's something that we witness every day with social media these days. People can put two and two together and/or go deeper with hacking and doing their own investigations and finding out things before professionals do. They get these things done faster cuz they don't have to wait or follow the law. So it's not so far fetched, it happens. Especially if the main investigation is internet/app related.

Secondly, I agree with some of the reviewers that the show is really great up until the last episode. It does keep you on your toes though and keep you guessing and the fun part with these kinds of shows is that you get to make your own analysis and think of possible outcomes and see if it matches in the end.

I was so sure from maybe the second episode, so so sure who the culprit was. I watch a lot of shows and movies in that genre so I was very confident about my guess. By the end of the 6th episode it was the only logical one to me and maybe it was designed that way. At that point, I was like if I'm right, great! I'm smart and I figured it out early on lol But if I'm wrong, that would be even better cuz I'd get to be surprised which is a lot more entertaining. And even though the twist was rushed and not very well written, but I'm still glad I was wrong.

What's good about this show is that it shines a light on all the issues & problems of things like the internet and social media and how people use or misuse them without thinking and how that can affect people's lives so deeply.

All in all, a good watch.

I really really wanted to love this movie
21 October 2020
It just kept me going back and forth, and I thought I'd land in a good place in the end, but no.

The first half was good, but the second half is when everything started to fall apart for me.

Without revealing too much, in the second half, especially towards the end (like the last half hour), the dialogue turned awkward & inconsistent. The events including significant revelations were RUSHED so much that there was no build up to them nor enough time to let them sink in before moving on to the next scene. The reactions to some news or events within the plot were dull & lacked sincerity and passion.

The editing for those scenes didn't help either. It just kept jumping too fast to the next scene or cut to a different frame in a different location in the middle of a revealing conversation. That's when they lost me. The emotional connection I wanted to feel for the characters kept being interrupted.

Though I still kept an open mind and was hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised that I'll love this movie by the end of it, but unfortunately, it just kept going the same kind of direction till the movie was over.

I've been looking forward to this, and even with my expectations being reasonable and not too high, I still didn't get what I wanted.

And just to be clear, I'm not comparing this to Hitchcock's version. In fact, I've never even seen it. So this is solely based on the execution of the story in this specific movie. It simply didn't do it for me.

Not bad, but not great

Warning: Spoilers
If you want to truly enjoy this show, try to completely forget about The Haunting of Hill House because they're very very different. Even though it's hard not to compare them which I definitely did.

This show is slow paced at first and at certain points you actually contemplate not finishing it because there is too much dialogue & not enough events happening that it feels dull & boring. For me, it only started getting interesting from episode 5.

Now, you have to look at this like it was said in the last episode, that this is not a ghost story, it's a love story. Which I felt was misleading for the viewers as well. We went into this expecting something like Hill House and we ended up with something completely different. I felt cheated.

Therefore, I wouldn't really consider this a horror, if anything it's more of a psychological thriller tbh. There's hardly any horror-related scenes in it. And when there are, they're usually crammed in the last couple of minutes of the episode. So just when things start to get interesting, the episode is over! Except for maybe the last episode but it also didn't last long. The main focus wasn't on the scary stuff at all.

Another thing that was disappointing for me was that it was predictable. At least for the most part. It's clever but I was always one step ahead which I don't like to be in this kind of show. Nothing surprised me. Unlike Hill House which was a lot more creative, suspenseful, interesting, shocking & unexpected.

Also, nothing about this felt like the events were taking place in the 80s for me, except for Dani's outfits & hair. Everyone else looked like they were from another decade.

The good things about this show is the acting (despite some of the forced fake accents), the decor, the makeup/FX/CGI work, the cinematography and if you're not too fussy about what decade it supposed to be, the outfits and hairstyles are pretty great too. I gave it a 7 for those reasons, while I gave Hill House a 10. There's just something missing in this one.

The plot wasn't bad, but because it went a different direction than expected (& not in a good way), it just wasn't satisfying.

So like I said, if you go into this without comparing it to Hill House, and without thinking of it as a ghost story, you might enjoy it alot more. So yeah it was okay but Hill House was definitely way better in my opinion.

Enola Holmes (2020)

Feel good, family friendly movie
23 September 2020
First of all, people need to realize that this is NOT a Sherlock Holmes story, so stop comparing it to Sherlock & rating it that way.

I'm a stickler when it comes to Sherlock too and I was worried that I wasn't going to like the character be played a bit differently from what I've seen in the trailer. But to my delight, even though Henry did not play the classic version of Sherlock, he still gave a wonderful performance with a softer version of the character that made Sherlock even more appealing which fit really well within this story.

Second of all, this film is an absolute delight. I'm not usually a fan of breaking the 4th wall, but it worked well in this movie.

Millie's performance was brilliant, the character fits her perfectly. She's a natural & is always a joy to watch.

Now I understand that not everyone is a fan of feminism, I'm not particularly a feminist myself, but it still wasn't an overwhelming theme in this movie for me. It was done just right. So stop complaining about that. The movie is called ENOLA Holmes, what did you expect?

If you don't particularly like the mystery storyline in this movie, then surely the music (which took me back to wonderful 1990s family movies), the acting, the costumes, the whole atmosphere and vibe of Victorian era England will make this movie worth watching.

The Sinner: Part VIII (2020)
Season 3, Episode 8
10/10
Ignore the bad reviews
26 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very intense, emotional roller coaster of a season. If you don't delve deep into the complexity of the characters, the concept and the emotion & only focus on the technical and illogical events & reactions, you probably won't like it, as many who rated the season haven't and you will be really missing out on such brilliant acting, especially from Matt Bomer, who has pleasantly surprised me with his incredible portrayal of such a complicated, tortured character.

This episode wasn't what I expected. I actually got a little mad when Jamie was shot for absolutely no reason whatsoever. He was unarmed, very calm and even told Harry to call for backup, but Harry unexpectedly shot him instead!

But from that moment on, the whole emotion of the scene was shifted. I got very emotional to the point of weeping watching Jamie coming to realize his feelings, his fears, being really scared and wanting to be seen for who he really is on the inside, a very tortured lost soul who wants to have purpose and make others feel what he feels so they understand that he never wanted to be a bad guy, that he just wanted to be understood and wanted so desperately to have faith in someone or something that wouldn't let him down no matter how bad things get.

It was heartbreaking to watch him being completely human in the last moments of his life, knowing that things could've gotten very different if only people in his life embraced him & helped him deal with this very delicate situation he put himself into, instead of pushing him away & making him feel like he's just a crazy bad guy which pushed him over the edge & made him do terrible things that he never really wanted to do.

I liked this concept and I liked this season. It was very different and addressed something that we don't always understand. It makes you think and reflect. It's like what someone else here said, it was more like a psychological thriller. More so than the first two seasons.

And if for nothing else, you can always just watch it for Matt's incredible performance.

This was actually my favorite season. It's definitely worth watching.

Ignore the bad reviews
21 March 2020
The movie should get higher ratings. People are quick to dismiss something just cuz they feel it's as they put it "predictable" or boring or repetitive or whatever. It didn't feel that way to me at all. And just to put things in perspective for you, I watch a lot of movies and tv shows of the same type/genre and I actually figured it out early on, but I still enjoyed watching it immensely because it was well executed and very entertaining and even if you already know what happens, it still keeps you guessing and doubting throughout.

I recommend watching this movie if not for the plot, then for the wonderful acting that everyone showcased.

Side note: Sam's acting in this film reminded me of Jon Bernthal in The Punisher which was a plus!

Watch & enjoy!
