Eureka: You Don't Know Jack (2009)
A unique idea for a clip show with horrible execution.
Good on them for trying to make a clip show still interesting and adding a Eureka spin to it. This show is usually pretty good about maintaining its believability amongst all the crazy science and technology by making sure the logic stays intact. Unfortunately, they didn't do that so well in this episode. The crazy technology this time is a machine that uploads individual people's memories as videos to create a time capsule for Eureka, thus the clip show. Buying into this premise, each clip had to have come from a person who was there. So, when we're watching the collection of clips of Carter and Allison, that means either Carter or Allison uploaded those memories. No one else in the town obviously wouldn't have them. But we know Carter never used the machine, and Allison used it once to record one memory, and we saw another clip. In other words, neither Carter nor Allison uploaded the collection of memories videos, and they were the only people who could. And this is only one example of this same kind of inconsistency happening in the memory videos. There are a few clips with Fargo that we know he didn't upload, so who did, and many more. I'm fine with believing any crazy thing this show needs me to believe as long as they maintain logic within the world that they have created.
Is It Cake? (2022)
Fun and Talented Competition
The best thing about this show is that in S1 out of the 32 times we were supposed to find the cake, I guessed which one was the cake about six times. The talent on the show was remarkable! The second best thing about the show is that they gave the bakers lots of time to bake their cakes. I've seen a bunch of cooking and baking competition shows. This is the only one where the contestants didn't have to rush or cut corners in order to be done on time. They had enough time to do their best work and really show off their talent. It was a true talent competition, instead of who can get done the fastest.
Beyond the Sea (2004)
Worth the wait!
Sorry, Jack, but I couldn't disagree with you more. I thought the movie was spectacular. During Kevin Spacey interviews about the movie, he said he didn't want to make a typical biopic. He wanted to make more of a celebration of the life of Bobby Darin. That's why there were those big dance sequences and big musical numbers. I really believe Kevin did accomplish what he sent out to do. Kevin Spacey grew up listening to and loving Bobby Darin. He wanted to put the spotlight back on Bobby. That's why you are wrong when you said it's more of a Kevin Spacey showcase. This movie was from start to finish a celebration of one of the best performers this country will ever know, and it was worth the wait.
