unbiased review

To start I have not read the book. Somehow it did not cross my path even though I love period books as this. My favorite author being Georgette Heyer and Jane Austin a close second. I am from a diverse family myself and have no issue with creative license to make a fictional story that does not match historical accuracy if it understood it is fiction and it took such liberties as it did, an example being modern tunes played by an orchestra. But, this series does not live up to its potential. While the settings and costumes are vibrant the characters are lackluster, dull, boring or annoying like Eloise. The characters did not come across as they should by either bad script, bad casting and at times both. Pen's character is the exception and came across as the most believable. She portrayed real and true human emotions and was neither dull or annoying and the actress played her well. Overall this is a series to watch if you in the mood for a period piece and can overlook the liberties it took and dont expect a masterpiece as some give it but it not a total garbage rating as haters gave it., so in the middle rating i give it, no more than that, too much dull writing and bland characters to give this anymore than a 5 or 6 star rating.

The Crown (2016–2023)

was a solid 10
3 December 2020
This was for me was a solid 10 star until they made the huge mistake of recasting instead of aging the actors. They had a perfect 10 show going, you dont mess with that unless you are just plain nuts. What were they thinking? They didnt even recast so the actors had any physical or acting .similarities. Blue eyes even became brown, tall and shapely to short and fat!! HBC is totally miscast and so opposite of how Vanessa portrayed Princess Margaret it is cringe worthy. Sorry Helena, you are great in so many roles but this part is so wrong for you and you are too unlike Vanessa to pull it off. Olivia portrays a decent Queen and would have been fine in a different series but she differs in look and character from Claire that you just cant believe it is supposed to be the same person. As far as Gillian goes, while some say she did great, others and myself disagree. I have one word for her portrayal of Thatcher, OVER~ACTED! So badly in fact, you ask yourself how could anyone have any admiration for the iron lady and not just find her to be one big conceited, arrogant pain the but you wish would just be quiet and go away already. But besides all this I love the series, just not HBC and GA performances in this, they alone gravely dropped the ratings. Thankfully, the series itself is so good you still are glued to the screen, even if you cringe now n then when the bad casting has a moment of how obviously the miscast is.

adds nothing to a classic, a total waste of 2 hours
24 October 2020
This adds nothing to a classic. It is so lame of a remake, all it can do is try not to embarrass itself too badly as it did with that horrendous yellow suit. The acting is subpar, the few changes just takes away from the story, the costumes made you cringe at times, there was no mystery, no suspense, no foreboding atmosphere, no thrill and not even the Danvers character could add anything redeeming to this. There was nothing in this version that made the original such a timeless classic. At least in others adaptions, there was something of worth, even if it could not live up to its predecessor. You might want to stick to the original and forget this ever was made.

Worth a watch but should have been much better.
15 October 2020
It appears many have missed what the movie is really about. Since i don't want any major spoilers I will not reveal it, but for those with no religious understanding they may miss the point of the movie and check back for in detail reviews with spoilers to see what was missed. If one pays attention to all details from the start, even what seems insignificant, the viewer may follow what is happening earlier on and not just see people endlessly lost in grass because that is not what they truly lost in. The movie does reveal, between the lines with subtle clues what is happening and this is where it lacks. At some points it could have been presented a little clearer with still a mysterious spooky atmosphere. Also the creep factor at points came across a little cheesy and some of the acting could have been better. With a much better presentation this really could have been a creepier movie, with an important life message which gave a heart felt punch but they didn't put the effort into it that it deserved.

strayed too much from novel ruining Jacksons aura
13 October 2020
Jackson leaves much for her readers to interpret or decide for themselves in many aspects of her novels. It is what makes her so great and eerily creepy while casually slipping in some social dilemmas hidden amongst her masterful story telling. You wonder who is this person really, are they good or bad, are they sane or crazy, did someone do this or something unworldly etc etc. Those who made this adaption ruined that. The slow revealing and mystery of MaryKat is gone in this, ruined and demolished, the motives are made up and in no way found in the book again ruining the true mysteriousness of the book. They destroyed Uncle Julian's character as well. They took way too many liberties with changes of the story. I gave it a 5 because some aspects still remain and to some who love this novel may still get some satisfaction from it finally being put to screen. To those who did this and want to truly do a Jackson adaption to screen, take a cue from Robert Wise, PLEASE!

Just or fun movie
13 October 2020
Those looking for a side splitting comedy or a serious mystery movie will be disappointed in this, but those looking for just a fun watch may really enjoy this. This is for Adam Sandler fans looking for a quarky at times comedy with a bit of mystery and action in the lines of Clue and Charlies Angels, this will fit the bill. Just you don't go into it looking for a top notch comedy or murder mystery and just sit back and enjoy it for what it is, a light hearted fun movie to sit on the couch and put your feet up and unwind after a long day.

Not one of his best.
13 October 2020
Sorry Adam, your acting was off the mark on this one and the story average at best. This has a few laughs and worth a watch if you want to watch something Halloweenie but don't want a gore fest or a total stinker of a movie. No worries there, Steve Buscemi acting saves the day on this one.

Should have been better
13 October 2020
This is a slow burn gothic, emphasis on slow that will bore many. The story and presentation had potential but it lacked substance. A good gothic doesn't need gore and cheap quick scares which thankfully this doesn't have but it needs something. Something that will maintain a spooky atmosphere and a full mysterious story to add to the overhaul creepiness factor. This is where it fell short and you may find yourself bored and unfulfilled instead of feeling like you just been taken through a good, spooky ghost story experience.

A suspenseful, creepy mystery.
13 October 2020
This is better than what i expected. It's not just a slasher type gore with cheap scares. It builds up a good mystery that keeps you guessing while holding the suspense in a creepy atmosphere. It started to have a good wrap up ending then nose dived into a bit of an atypical cheesy ending. If not for that, I would have rated it higher than 7 star and not debated on a 6 or 7 star rating.

Little Women (2019)

Jumbled mess, bad casting, no development
20 January 2020
Let me start with I love Little Women but not this version. I can not in honesty give a good review just because the book and other versions I adore. This was a mess all around. Even with much knowledge of the story it was hard to follow which timeline the story just jumped to till part way through the scene. It did not flow at all. Much of the cast did not capture the essence of who they were portraying. That mixed with a jumbled mess of time jumping lead to no character development and no feeling for the story or characters. I so wanted to enjoy this. I just couldnt.
