The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Good movie... Boring scenery, amazing story.
No much to say here. This movie I great. It can be a bit boring because they are always inside the prison, it's quite routine. The story is magnificent though.
Definitely worth watching.
Schindler's List (1993)
Good movie, but not the masterpiece I was expecting.
It's a good movie, based on a real story. One of its strengths is the accuracy and realism with which it depicts the social unrest in the period.
Apart of that, it's a bit too long (3 hours) and the first 2 ones are tiny bit boring.
Not an impressive movie, but definitely worth watching.
The Quiet (2005)
Mostly a good movie
Except for how the girls get away with a bloody murder and how the deaf girl was not deaf at all, I think it's a good movie.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Dropped it on season 2
Season 1 is good
Season 2 is watchable but has too many long scenes where nothing happens (you can just fast forward them, you won't miss anything important). They also abuse a lot of suspense music/mood in this one.
Season 3 is just bad.
The Martian (2015)
Best space travel flick
Acting, special effects, science accuracy...
The all round space travel flick, if you will...
The Godfather Part II (1974)
Overrated. Not terrible, but not even half as good as the first.
I'll be short.
1. This movies suffers from the same issue as the first, where you're only tipped about the hows and why's of the murders and the other mob stories that take place, with the agravants that:
a- A few scenes go by before an 'explanation' comes up, although it still just doesn't explain everything.
b- The first movie at had more compelling acting, plot and action overall managed to get me tuned all the time, despite the hard to understand parts of the plot.
2. This movie could be made a lot better if it was shorter. It drags too much on useless scenes, displaying scenarios and expressions in the faces of characters. Which leads to the third point.
3. The pace is too slow and makes the movie boring.
Overall, it's a a somewhat decent sequel to the first movie, but at the same time it just isn't as exciting and requires some effort to finish watching, not like the first movie, where the movies takes you along with interest from the first minute to the last.
Definitely, I 100% overrated.
O Auto da Compadecida (1999)
One of the funniest, yet a headstrong movie.
Everything is good in this adaptation, I like it better than the book
Blade Runner (1982)
Excruciantly slow pace, lackluster plot.
This movie is beyond boring. 40 minutes into it and it is techinically beginning.
The main reason for the slow progress are the excruciatingly slow scenes where the director wanted to show his futuristic scenarios, where it takes 5, 6 , 7 minutes just showing stuff around.
Run away, this movie sucks.
Gravity (2013)
I wish I had words to describe how bad this movie is, but I don't, you have to see it for yourself.
If you'll like this I don't know but if you expect a flick like this to have accurate, intelligent science (like 'The Martian'), I'll tell you it doesn't.
If you didn't like 'Interstellar', steer clear from this move, it's awful
Stunning CG though.
All else sucks, especially the soundtrack, which causes an excess of tension, it tries to create suspense every 5 minutes, your brain gets tired of that.
Chernobyl (2019)
Thrilling and accurate depiction
Down to the people's clothes. The woman whom the charactee Lusya was based on, despite some criticism of HBO allegedly unauthorized use of her story, she acknowledges in one interview that HBO have special attention to details. In her case, it goes down to one of her knitted jackets. She says the character Lusya uses one that is similar to one she has at the time. You can also see that the actors depicting Legasov, Dhyatlov, Fomin an others are similar in looks to the real people. The technical information presented is, most of the times accurate, with only some minor deviations that serve (like the cause cause of the AZ-5 button being pressed. It's declared by Legasov in the series, probably as an inference, but in actuality, only Leonid and Akimov knew the exact reason, but does before being asked for it).
Also the acting and everything else is up to the best of HBO's. Soundtrack is bizarre and thrilling, which sounds fitting for some of the creepiest moments.
A Scanner Darkly (2006)
Probably the worst movie I've ever watched
Really, I tend not to scorch or rant at movies ever. If I'm reviewing a movie, I try to be as honest as I can, so let me be honest:
There's several reasons why this flick is super bad, but I'll get to the main ones.
1. It's passed on as a 'Cyberpunk' movie, but it isn't. It takes place in a contemporary age and the only cyberpunk/futuristic aspects of the whole movie are the mass surveillance and the suit used by the detectives.
The plot actually revolves around addiction to a super drug.
2. The main characters are mostly junkies that have experienced severe brain damage bracuse of this drug. They are very confusing and the movie focuses on their hallucinations, depression and internal conflicts for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Then the confusion resolves in the last 20 minutes of the movie (the movie lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes) and you get to understand why all the mess.
3. Very monotonous. There's not a single action scene, not a single romantic affair, not a fight, no one lashing out at anyone, nothing, it's just addicted people having hallucinations for more than an hour. The mood is very depressive, as are all the characters, except for Barris.
My tip: skip this movie, really.
