I think these two episodes after O'Malley dies are pretty great. I am one of the people who loves season 6 and everything with the merger. As a fan, I would of course want everything to stay the same, I want Burke to still be around, and I want Addie to never have left, and of course I want George to be alive. But both season 4 and 5 had a lot of the same, it was going a little bland, and to spice it up they made some unrealistic stories for our main cast.
I feel like Cristina's character and story is the only one that has stayed strong and interesting, and not to mention: realistic!!! Meredith, George and Izzie all had periods of boring character developments where they just did not feel the same. George completely faded out after he failed his intern test. He never got his spark back, and he was not the same as the O'Malley from the first couple of seasons. Izzie was just weird all through season 4 and some of season 5. She got a great story again in the end of season 5, but her character is much more boring now. Meredith's character was a bit lost when she and Sheperd couldn't figure out for a whole season what they were. That was just a lot of uninteresting back and forth.
So, my point is that the show need something fresh, just like the merger, to find its groove again, to be interesting and thrilling. Everything is familiar at this point, and after five seasons, the show needs to mix it up a bit. So I am a little bit in love with season 6.
I hate that they killed off George, I would much rather see him leave to join the military and know that he was out there alive.... but I guess that wasn't thrilling and dramatic enough for a season finale...
So, with things being as they are, it was great to fast forward a little bit and to get something new and exciting to start watching. These two grieving episodes were just the perfect way to do it! And the medical cases, with Andy and Clara were both really great!!
