Little Women (2019)
STOP HATING ON THIS FILM
To be honest I've never seen the '94 film and while I cannot say which one is better, I can say that this film is great. I am sick of seeing all this hate and I will debunk the 3 main arguments I have seen used against this movie. These arguments are casting is bad, the timeline is confusing, and the ending is wrong.
Argument One: Casting is Bad. This is the least common argument I see, but I thought I would talk about it. This argument isn't against the amazing cast itself, but instead is against the use of the adult actors in the past sequences. In my opinion the cast is perfect especially Saoirse Ronan as Jo. I get why people dislike the past sequences using adults instead of child actors , but if they used child actors I don't think that the film would've been as good. The child actors wouldn't have captured the personality of the adult actors.
Argument Two: Confusing Timeline. This one is the only one that makes a little sense for me. The reason people make this argument is because of how the movie constantly jumps back and forth between the movies present and the past. A lot of people think a linear timeline would be better. I don't agree because if the timeline was linear then I think that some scenes would be ruined. The movie relies on these flashbacks to giveback story, but if there was a liner timeline it would constantly have to remind us about what happened the past portion of the story instead of just showing us.
Argument Three: Wrong Ending. A lot of people dislike that the ending ends with Jo finishing the book and being forced to put in the marriage part. A lot of hardcore fans hate this ending because it goes agaist the book, but the only reason she put this in is because the original author WAS accualy forced to put in the ending of the book. Greta wanted to pay tribute to the original author by putting in this ending AND THAT IS WHY IT WAS PUT IN.
In conclusion it might seem like I'm some Greta super fan or something, but I'm not. There are problems in this film and I'm sorry if it just seems like a straight up positive review, but I just wanted to defend this film from all the haters.
Blade Runner (1982)
I can see why everyone loves this movie
I watched this movie for the first time not too long ago and at first I didn't know what to think of it. It seems like a straight forward crime noir story, but it takes that concept and turns it into so much more. The film constantly (although subtly) calling into question Deckard's true identity. It seems very apparent as the film goes on what the true answer is, but it is never fully addressed. That is the genius of this film. It has so much hidden subtext in it. I love this film and like Ridley Scott's other work Alien, it is a Masterpiece and a movie that will go down in history as one of the greatest stories ever told through film.
Mary and Max. (2009)
A wonderful heartwarming Film
I just watched this film for the first time. I knew what the basic story was, but I had no idea how good it would be. It started off like a normal kid friendly stop motion animated movie. It ended up being much, much more. It deals with themes of mental illness, drugs addiction, death, depression and suicide. The movie greatly moved me and by the end I almost cried and not many movies invoke that sort of emotion from me. It isn't perfect by any means, but it is a great film none the less and I recommend you watch it.
Alien Resurrection (1997)
A disappointing and cringe piece of garbage
This movie is bad on every level. The tone feels confused trying to be lighthearted and serious and the same time, but ends up a mess. Unlike alien and aliens or even alien 3, which have a cast of characters that have great personality, this film has a cast of gimmicky good for nothing characters. Not even Ripley could save this movie, because in this film she isn't playing herself. She is playing a clone of herself, so even time she is in the movie she seems confused and over sexualizes aspects of her personality. They also feature the aliens way to much in this film taking out any suspense that could possibly be there. The are also many scenes including the spider scene and the overly insane chestbursting scene (if you watch the movie you will know what I mean) where I can't help but laugh at how absurd the movie is. I do like the twist at the end to an extent, but it is very poorly executed and the new design of the newborn is terrible, the scene where Ripley finds failed clones of herself is very powerful, but not as well executed as it could be. I found the death of the newborn hilarious even though I don't think it was supposed to be. I don't recommend this film, because even though it has so bad it's good moments, most of the film is either boring or bewildering. At least something like Batman and Robin is funny all the way through. This is just a sad excuse for an Alien film and seeing as Alien 3 wraps up this TRILOGY perfectly please for the love of God skip this one.
Alien³ (1992)
A step down from the first 2
I watched the extended cut of this film, so I don't know about the normal cut. Unlike others I think the movie is good. I understand what the directors was trying to do, but I feel like it wasn't the best executed film. It feels like a prison drama in space with tacked on alien aspects more than an alien movie. I do like many aspects of this movie. I like how the alien comes out of an ox (or dog depending on the cut you watch), I enjoy how the tone of film was shift immediately as soon as the movie starts, I like how the film is suspenseful, and I like the twist and the ending. While the suspense in the movie is great it can be very boring at points. I love the score in the film. I also like how they tried to reinvent the shape of the Xenomorph. I also like how it is revealed how Ripley has a alien inside of her and how she has to sacrifice herself to save everyone else. There is many faults in logic in this movie also. How did a alien get on the ship in the first place. I also think that the effects are crap. You might think that this make sense because it is a 28 year old movie, but the first and second Alien have much better effects that still hold up today even though they came out 12 and 6 years before respectively. The pov shots are also way over used. Even though this movie has several flaws it is still good, but no where near the masterpieces that are Alien and Aliens.
Aliens (1986)
Alien Walked so Aliens Could Run
Although Alien was a masterpiece, Aliens is better than it in my opinion. Alien was a Horrifying Film with many suspenseful moments, but Aliens is a lot more action packed. It feels more like a action movie set in space than a horror movie. This is why I think they are both great, because they are so different in tone that it would make sense to me why either could be someone's favorite. In the first film the Alien infiltrates their ship, but in this film the go to the source to kill it directly. There are way more people on this mission compared to the first one. In this one Ripley is not familiar with the rest if the crew on the ship, but every one else is familiar with each other. This makes the film feel like a fish out of water story. Ripley does not go to fight the aliens, but is a consultant watching from a safe distance with the overseers on the mission. That makes it all the more terrifying when she realizes just how many Aliens there are knowing how dangerous they can be. There are also several action packed sequences throughout the movie instead of just one at the end. This is mainly because of the first movie only having one Alien this film has hundreds of them attacking in hoards. This really ups the anti for what can happen. Even though there are several action scenes in the movie the final scene in the film is still action packed, with the queen alien coming aboard there ship. It also subverts your expectations for who the bad guy will be. You would think it's the android or that he is bad in some way but he is instead is almost the good guy in the movie. This is an amazing film and in my opinion is better that the first.
Alien (1979)
A Horrific and Suspenseful Masterpiece
This Amazing film does so much perfect. The first hour or so are so suspenseful. You know exactly what is going to happen, but you don't know when. Once the film hits the hour mark is where everything starts to change in tone. The reveal that Ash was an robot, the true intentions of the company, and final sequence. Even at the very end of the film it was supenceful. The end where she had to escape the ship before it explodes was amazing. When it get revealed that the Alien was on the escape ship the whole time is absolutely terrifying. My favorite part of the Masterpiece that is this film is the end. When the Alien flies out of the escape ship and then gets stuck in one of the accelerators and then blows up amazing. This is a great film that you should watch if you haven't yet.
Critters (1986)
A guilty pleasure of mine
Is this movie good? No, but is it fun? Yes it is. This film is trying to be Gremlins. Little creatures, things getting destroyed, kids trying to stop them. It's all so familiar. It is not even close to doing what Gremlins did for cinema. It's kind of like how after Friday the 13th and Halloween made the slasher movie so popular multiple low budget films copied them. That's what this is. It is fun to watch and is a good movie if you want a laugh. I find my self coming back to this movie series all the time.
The Shining (1980)
Not as good as everyone says...
Don't get me wrong this is a good movie. Out of all 1980 horror movies it is the best by far. It just left me wanting more. I used to hate this movie as I felt it was boring and had no payoff. I still stand by that some what, but I no understand why it's so "boring". It isn't boring, but it is a study in slow burning terror as we watch Jack as he slowly spirals into madness. This is a great concept and is executed greatly by the book, which is much better than it in my opinion. In this film he seems crazy from the start. The ending also isn't as satisfying in my opinion and instead of the hotel blowing up Jack freezes to death. I can't help but feel I'm missing something. It's good but at 2.5 hours it almost feels like a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and read the book. It's only around 600 pages and is much better.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Classic Animated Movie
This is a great stop motion film. You can tell hard work and care was put into this production. The score, animation, acting, and writing is perfect in every fashion. I'm not the biggest fan of musicals, but the songs in this film are great. It can be scary for kids and has references to kidnapping, posion, and other topics that you may not want to show kids. Even if you don't want to show it to your kids it is still a great film to watch no matter your age.
Poltergeist (1982)
Classic 80s Horror Movie
This is a classic movie. I've never seen the sequels or the reboot in this series this movie can stand on it's own. It isn't very gory, but it doesn't need more to be great. I still don't recommend this film to younger kids as it does still have scary sequences. I still recommend this to anyone who can handle it.
Gremlins (1984)
My Favorite Movie
This is a classic film. It is my favorite film of all time ever since I first watched this movie. It perfectly balances horror and comedy elements and is in my opinion better than Ghostbusters, ET, and Back to the Future. If you haven't already seen this film then you should immediately
Scoob! (2020)
Not nearly as good as I was hoping
I was really hoping this would be good. It looked promising but ended up being bad. It's not horrible but it could of been so much more. I liked the villian of the film, but the other characters just didn't feel right. I hated how they replaced the families voice actors with ones that aren't even close to being as good. Watch it with your kids if you want, but I don't recommend watching this under any other circumstances.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Good for a video game movie
This movie impressed me very much. I was not expecting much from it, but it is decent. It might be one of the best video movies. If you have the chance or if you have kids I recommend you watch it. Jim Carrey was great as Eggman and I'm excited for what the second movie has in store.
