Solid entry in the franchise.

Post-credit scenes are back, so don't walk out early. You will regret it.

As always, the right balance of fun and actiont, along with a "Did not see that coming" shocker.

Great start for the final trilogy...but...

Warning: Spoilers
First, I loved the film. The fun was back, the action was back, the Force was back. It sets up the conflict for the next two films. The cinematography is outstanding and the CGI isn't invasive.

But...

It also has a "Been there, Done that" feel. It's like J.J. Abrams was trying to get us oldsters back to the franchise with "Hey, look, this is the good-old Star Wars you remember." Literally. I was, like, "Another planet-sized weapon? Seriously?" However....

I'm willing to give him a pass on that. The conflict that was set up (and alluded to) is going to be epic. I actually left the theater thinking "Can't wait to see what happens next."

Thanks J.J., you have renewed my faith in humanity.

Maudlin, not realistic

Warning: Spoilers
OK, maybe it's because I'm a nurse, but I HATE it when a medical show can't bother to get the simple things right. A child in a coma is not just laying in bed like he's taking a nap. There are side rails, there are IVs, there is equipment, there are monitors. He would have a feeding tube of some kind. He would be propped up and positioned and have splints to prevent him from getting contractures. He's probably on a ventilator. So, major turn-off in the first five minutes. I will admit that I do not specialize in pediatrics so I don't know if the 'school' setting was authentic, but I'm guessing no. And the whole thing about the kid with cancer answering the question as to why King Henry didn't have friends is because the friends would die in the war and it's too hard to say good bye....LIKE IF YOU HAVE CANCER AND YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!! Could they have smacked us across the face with that one any harder? Oh, you know the kid has cancer because he's bald. So, that's about how far into the show I got before I changed the channel. Maybe it will get better, but if this is the show before the first commercial break, I doubt it.

I did not watch it long enough to find out what the 'Red Band' thing was about. I have both worked in a hospital and have been a patient. A red band means you have an allergy. You have a regular hospital band with your name and information and then a red band saying what you are allergic to. So unless these kids are bound together because penicillin gives them hives that's another thing the writers totally blew.

I'm pretty sure this isn't how it works

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER With a different set-up, I would have given this movie a much higher rating. I am not a lesbian, but I am pretty sure you don't just suddenly realize that you are a lesbian. You may be in denial that you are a lesbian, but you most likely have unfulfilling relationships with men. If Rachel had shown any hesitancy in her marriage or if she shared that she didn't think she felt the overwhelming love for Heck that she should have, then it would have made sense. Instead it looks like Rachel was deeply, madly in love with Heck and thrilled to be getting married to him, and then she saw Luce and suddenly she was a lesbian? She had no inkling that she preferred girls to guys? That just ruined the movie for me. Like I said, a different set-up and this would have been a great movie.
