Sujo (2024)

Quiet, Powerful
21 January 2024
Sujo is a film that I went into with no expectations and no knowledge of the story. I left the theater having seen a masterpiece. A film that portrays the solitude of a boy born broken, born with a curse that couldn't be removed. The passion of building a better life brought down by the life he was born into.

Stunning cinematography and amazing acting elevate the story into its own world. The child actors especially surprised me with their talent, a quiet role is often the hardest to play. The sound design is one element of the film that especially blew me away. Little details are heard in amazing quality, loud sounds are sparse but powerful. The film is told mostly from Sujo's perspective, isolating the audience and providing a terrifying realistic look at a life many of us do not get to see.

9/10.

Horsin' Around (2014 Video)

Pretty Decent 90s Sitcom
6 July 2021
Horsin' Around isn't the BEST sitcom, but its pretty good. The creator of the show Herb Kazzaz got fired in the middle, so they is a noticeable change in quality. But some people prefer the later years. Some of my favorite episodes are: Goober Goes Home (the softball one) The first Christmas special and the Finale because of the unexpected downer ending. Overall its pretty decent. People compare Mr. Peanutbutter's house to this show a lot, and I do have to say Mr. Peanutbutter is much more energetic and fun than The Horse but I like them both the same. If you liked The Horse in this than you should watch the new Secretariat movie. Its kind of weird they didn't do a scene with his suicide and did a Christmas thing instead, but the "You are Secretariat" scene made up for it.

Sweet Film, Killer Soundtrack
24 May 2021
I first heard about this film from The Shins. James Mercer mentioned this film in an interview and talked about how it raised awareness for the band. I decided to watch this movie only because of this, and I actually thought it was pretty sweet. I like the contrast between Andrew's junkie friends and Sam's innocent, loving family. You can really see how much the colors change from depressing browns and whites to warm reds and yellows. I think Zach Braff did a great job directing the film in that sense. Braff also did a good job playing Andrew. He really portrayed the numb mindlessness of Andrew, and really changed throughout the film. I like how we see Andrew go back to that numb mindless state when he is waiting on the plane after leaving Sam. It really goes to show how much he needs her. Overall, the film was very well made and the soundtrack is gold. I was elated when I heard an acoustic version of "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service playing at one point. I didn't know how versatile Natalie Portman was as an actress until watching this movie She played Sam very well and was one of the highlights for me.

A Great Tragedy
14 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Il Grande Silenzio is a 1968 spaghetti western film by Sergio Corbucci. I will skip an explanation of the plot, because this is intended for people who have already seen the film. The ending of the film really surprised me. Silence is dead, along with Pauline. The town is massacred by Loco's ruthless bounty hunter gang. The antagonist has won. Loco takes Silence's Mauser pistol and rides away concluding the film. The ending is very bleak and sad, but shows how good does not always win. The film taking place in the winter really helps with the depressing tone. Loco himself is a great villain. We get to know who he is right at the beginning of the movie. Throughout the movie we see him murdering innocent people, but he is protected by the law. He exploits the rules of a being a bounty hunter and use it to his advantage. The new sheriff of the town is not yet corrupted. He tried to take Loco to jail, but Loco outsmarted him and ended up killingly the sheriff. The viewer's hatred for Loco increases as the film continues. When the credits roll the viewer is shown the horrors of evil and how the fire cannot always be quenched. The town massacre is based on real world events that happened to Utah. This film brings awareness to the people were murdered. I feel that Loco should be recognized more as a famous villain. He is much more evil and twisted than most other movie villains and he actually wins in the end.

A Great Introduction to the Wonderful World of Wes Anderson!
14 February 2021
This is my first live-action Wes Anderson film. I have already seen "Isle of Dogs" and "Fantastic Mr. Fox". "The Grand Budapest Hotel" is, quite frankly, a really fun movie to watch. Wes Anderson's visual style is a real treat. The characters are also very fun and interesting too. I like the story a lot, but I wish Dimitri got more screen time as one of the other villains of the film. The actual hotel is really well-designed. The story within a story bit is pretty cool as well. Wes Anderson's style is very distinct and impressive, I would highly recommend you watch this film if you haven't already.

My thoughts on the current seasons...
14 February 2021
I used to adore Doctor Who, and I still do. However, I do not adore the current showrunner. Not only do I dislike Chris Chibnall's work on the show, I think it is objectively bad. What else is there to say? Hopefully I can make a new review some time from now highlighting how the series has gotten good again. I really wish the best for the show and I hope it gets back to where it once stood when Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat were showrunners. Anyway, lets all hope season 13 will be better than the last, and maybe not rewrite the entire history of the show. Cheers.

Blade Runner (1982)

Amazing Effects and Awesome Style
11 January 2021
Blade Runner is a futuristic cyberpunk film by Ridley Scott, loosely based on the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by legendary author Philip K. Dick. The visuals in this film are nothing short of awesome. You need to see this film to know what I am talking about. Also make sure to watch the Final Cut, that is Ridley Scott's most realized vision without the silly "happy ending" that showed in theaters. I can't say anything else about this film without you watching for yourself. This film is one-of-a-kind and very unique, go enjoy it for yourself.

Great Sci-Fi Terry Gilliam Flick
11 January 2021
This is the only Terry Gilliam film I have seen so far (besides Monty Python), and I already have a feel for his style. My favourite scenes in the film were the ones with the scientists that were wacky, yet mysterious and seemingly all-knowing. Bruce Willis did a great job as Cole, making me question if Cole really was mentally insane. Brad Pitt's character Jeffery Goines, was my favourite character in the film. Brad Pitt even went to a mental institution to act like a mental person. And he did a great job doing it. Overall, I liked the film a lot, the ending put the film in full circle and the payoff was great. If you like sci-fi films that make you think, I would highly recommend this film.

The Most Unique Film I Have Ever Seen In My Life
4 January 2021
I have just finished watching 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. I have seen other well reviewed films before, but I didn't feel they lived up to the praise. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, however completely blew my mind as a film. First of all, the special effects are amazing and even by 2021 standards. The actual film itself made me feel like I was witnessing the meaning of life itself. I have seen any other films by Stanley Kubrick at this point, but I don't believe any other films to be as unique and eye-opening as this. I enjoy other films more than 2001: A SPACE ODYSESSY, but none have ever made me feel like this one has. The fear, awe, and spectacle of this film leave me breathless. Not to mention the music. I heard good things about this soundtrack before, but I have never actually listened to it. From the opening of the film, to the end, the music fit the film perfectly. In this film particularly, there are many moments of silence only filled with music and heavy-breathing. The grand scale and mystery of the film was perfectly matched by the wonderful music. It is for these reasons that I am rating this film nine stars out of ten. If you have not seen this film yet, I highly recommend watching it at least once, no matter what genres you are interested in (and especially if you like surreal/sci-fi). There are many complaints that the film is too long and boring, but you will get used to the pacing of the film when watching it. Overall, an amazing film that deserves all the recognition it receives.
