Killing Eve (2018)
Season 1 is great. Season 2 goes downhill.
You will not be disappointed if you watch season 1, and you will be longing for more. My rating for the first season is 9. However Season 2 is disappointing and not as polished as Season 1, and my rating goes down to 6.
The lead writer changes in Season 2 and the little details that make Killing Eve what it is disappear to a great extent. Black humour is gone; dialogues are forced to produce a smart punchline but most times they fail; trivial characters are given unnecessary screen time; any conversation is in-your-face rather than implying something in a smart way; interactions between Villanelle and other characters are rushed and dull; the features of the characters (their gestures, mimics, comeback styles, etc.) do not align with the characters in Season 1.
Hopefully Season 3 will get the original lead writer back, because at this stage it does not feel 'authentic' compared to what we have been introduced to in Season 1. It has lost its smartness and black humour, and have become too predictable.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Decent film
After seeing all the bad reviews, I am contemplating whether I have watched the same film. People don't explain why it is the worst film and I think most of the ratings are unjust. Normally I would have given it a 7 but to lift the scores up, due to the unfair number of 1s and 2s given, I had decided to rate it 9.
It is enjoyable, and does not have anything lacking compared to the other X-men films. Some people are probably angry about the fact that the roles that got the most screen time were female. The IMDB ratings have always got worse with superhero or action films when strong women are the lead characters (see any other example in any franchise that has been traditionally dominated by male lead characters, I guess).
To me, it is watchable even to see Sophie Turner and Fassbender act. The plot could have been improved when it comes to the 'villain' of the story, but the rest of the characters acted and showed emotions convincingly.
You won't regret watching it!
