Slow
31 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The twist at the end is interesting but the journey is painful. You don't care about any of the characters. Its slow. Screenplay was thrown together in five minutes. Meh.

Overly long and did not care about the characters
23 December 2018
Overall 3 Screenplay 0 - No original dialogue. Very cheesy. Predictable. Visual Effects 10 - Beautiful visual effects. Story 5 - Story was good but I believe poorly executed. Screenplay dragged it down to the pits. Actors did they best they could with it. Action 3 - I guess it was ok but it was Michael Bay. Action scene after action scene with no character development. Character development - 0 - I cared nothing for the characters. They were thrown into the story and the action with no development. Manta was just a side note thrown in. Length 0 - The movie was way too long. I was bored pretty much from the beginning.

I care most about story and character development. I have not read the comics myself so that is the lens I am viewing this movie through.

Screenplay 0 Visual Effects 10 Story 5 Action 2 Character development 0 Length 0

Great idea...poorly executed
24 December 2017
Screenplay 2 - The lines were cliche. Nothing original. Action 7 - Good action but just went from fight to fight with no cohesion Story 7 - Very inventive story but poorly executed Acting 5 - Actors did good with what they had to work with but screenplay was bad Length 1 - The movie was too long and too drawn out. Too much action. Explanation 3 - There were moments of explanation but too many ideas were introduced and not fleshed out Interest 3 - It held my interest through the first part but I lost interest on going to battle after battle Cinematography 10 - The movie was shot very well Music 3 - The music seemed to fit but was distracting at some points

I felt the story was a great idea. I wish it was just executed better. It may have done better as a TV show to slowly flesh out the ideas that were presented. Will Smith did a good job but the screenplay he had to work with was subpar. I didn't laugh nearly as much as they wanted me to. Way over use of the f word. It just doesn't mean anything when you use it for every adjective and adverb. Some of the supporting actors were trying to be big, bad, and tough but they did not present it well. It may be worth one view. I usually give a movie or TV show about a 20 minute chance. This story did draw me in but overall it did not executed beyond the first 30 to 45 minutes very well.

Disappointed
4 August 2017
Poor acting. Poor screenplay. The only good thing about this film was the special effects. My 11 and 10 year old liked it. I guess it was not made for my demographic. The Fifth Element is a classic and amazing. This one not so much. Romance was forced. The comic relief did not help the load. If you're over 12 watch something else.

Good Stuff
8 August 2009
Story: Very Good. I thought the characters back stories were very satisfying.

Action: Very Good.

Screenplay: Cheese on a stick but probably expected. Marlon Wayans had some good lines but the rest were pretty standard actiony lines.

CG: Very Good. Sand in one scene didn't have much detail but the rest of it was satisfying.

Acting: Good. Probably weighted down by cheesy screenplay but it was passable.

Just got home from the film. My immediate thoughts. I do think it was worth a visit to the theater for if you like action films. I honestly enjoyed it more than transformers 2. Hope that helps.

Enjoyable
29 August 2008
Upon seeing the trailer for the film I expected it to be awful. The animation ain't pixar and they are not even using all the original voices. I took my sons to see this film and honestly I really enjoyed it. The script wasn't that great and you know about the animation from the trailer. I thought the story and the action was pretty good. It kept my attention. I was really tired and didn't fall asleep. My four year old son was very tired I could tell and it kept him awake. I read an article about the new Indy movie that really made me think. Listen, these movies are made for kids. There target audience are kids. If you are reading this as an adult you were a child amazed in wonder at the worlds Spielberg and Lucas create. We have grown into cynical, seen it all adults. If you can let that child inside of you out again, I think you will enjoy this film.

Requests for Emotion
5 May 2007
I thought the movie was great. I was disturbed by some of the laughing from the audience at key points. There were a lot of moments in the movies that asked its audience for emotion. Maybe too many for some people. I felt like this required knowledge from the previous two movies. The characters were built really well through the three movies and I felt like this one had rights to ask emotion from us. I guess I can be a sappy guy or hopeless romantic. Whatever you want to call it. I did enjoy the movie throughly. I don't know if I gave it the emotion that Mr. Raimi was looking for. I was on the verge of tears at some point but just the verge. All in all I would say its worth the price of admission. Great action sequences and great build up of the characters. Don't know if we need another but I guess that will be up to Tobey, Kirstin, Sam and the rest. Hope you find this useful.
