I honestly am dissatisfied and disappointed.
I have heard such great things from Paul Thomas Anderson fans about his previous films. Licorice Pizza is my first PT Anderson film! I am also a HUGE Haim fan so I was pumped! Only to be awarded with pretty average cinematography, shots of people running and then flashbacks to when they were running in a different scene. A TWENTY FIVE YEAR OLD WOMAN SHOWING HER BOOBS TO A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD BOY, a white man using a mocking Asian accent to speak to his Japanese wife, and so much just, WTF scenes.
Honestly, this movie could've been amazing and I really did love the cameos. This movie definitely could've been amazing if Alana was never in love with the kid!! If they just had a friendship and never tried to go any further.
Alana had a cool character, a very mentally ill , unstable woman who is not capable of growing up.
The film was charming it made me forget about what was going on, yet then!-as soon as I left the theatre, I got home and was like, "Uh, WHAT THE HELL?"
The part that hurt me the most as a female teenager was the realization of the double standard. The fact that people are like, this
movie is amazing! I have heard ALMOST no one discussing the fact that if the genders were reversed, people would hate this movie and be grossed out. So why is it COOL when a TEENAGED BOY hooks up with a ALMOST THIRTY YEAR OLD WOMAN?
I'm sorry but, I'm so disappointed.
