White Lilly & Night Rider (2018 TV Movie)
4/10
Interesting watch
20 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A two person play is an enjoyable watch. What starts as a two middle aged unmarried people (from mumbai and Pune) meeting on a chat as "white Lilly and Knight Rider" leads to "testing" of personalities before committing to a relationship.

Are these pseudo names represent true personalities?

As story progresses layers are revealed showing individual emotions in context of their past experiences. On one hand middle aged people are excited to meet person (they love) from chat room but quickly past trauma catches up to validate and revalidate this new relationship.

Narrative continues to show "thinking" of middle aged individuals - mature, respectful, ready to compromise but equally aware of limitation of their ability to "change for another".

Somali steals the show as open and vibrant who speaks her heart. Milind Pathak as the write and the actor provides ample space to Sonali to shine and is truly "a knight" of the story.

Too much conversation
17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A promising start with few good lines placing Patricia Clarkson as an ever so dangerous killing machine, all turns out to be a chit-chat machine.

Little action and literary in every scene "scared" three heads of an autonomous CIA unit have virtually no understanding of how spy network functions. It is reflection of passing the buck and spying on each other. It is not even politics but shameless executives holding on to top positions.

Patricia is actually old and while she delivers calmly all the lines, hard action should not be expected. She is a master strategist (nobody else can compete) and ruthless killer (with scissors). She "remains still" and has pieces on the board to lure the mole in the unit!!!

Lydia west has a good role but she is not the best suited. Other actors are weak and really disappointed at the casting process.

Lydia in 90% of times is in same pair of jeans (!!) and Patricia always has some kind of "glow" on her face. Basic needs to be set right.

Why can't there be a logical end!! Netflix probably wanted a "limited budget" series with usual fillers.

Too clever for its own good
25 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Raktabeej is a very very intellectual interpretation of one's emotions. In the process, viewers are taken through a journey where sub-stories are mirroring persons emotions.

Clever, isn't? Too clever. Very likely that a small set of viewers will walk away with desire to "look into one's self" and most will just throw up hand (and popcorn) in despair.

Last twenty minutes tries to salvage and put a spin(s) to an overacted drama full of incoherent sub-stories (ie, our emotions). We find links to the legendary story of the demon Raktabeej and Kali, cancer is manifestation of guilt, emotions are pen into novels without context and some more philosophy.

Sure it's not for normal viewer to grasp or climb the high grounds but the "attempt" to do something different in Gujarati movie could have been so much better.

Can't appreciate acting - one being Anu Kapoor with Big B voice and cheap gun suppose to be a feared gangster!!! Close ups shots don't work and group shots looks like actors positioned for an advert.

Needless to add but poor directorship, camerawork and weak writing contributes to un-exciting, inconsistent and frankly non-watchable single room drama.

Appreciate I am an outlier to all the other opinions with 10** but I did spend long long two hours to have my view.

Simply enjoyable!!

Without any expectations watched the movies. Turned out to be a superb family entertainment.

Don't want to spoil the fun by revealing more and fair to say story is fluid and keeps viewer engaged. Direction and edit shapes the movie to a complete picture. Actors are wonderful especially Yash Soni who is in a completely different role to his recent movie Raado. Mr Bachchan provides links to the story and all other actors nails the role. Look for sharp lines delivered at unexpected moment.

Length could be shorter by 10-15 minutes but really doesn't spoil the fun.

In current environment of making larger than life movies, with extensive budget, this is a small gem which takes us back to the simplicity of story telling with powerful acting and core family values.

Would definitely recommend - light hearted fun with family. Can't go wrong.

Disappoints to core
3 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Disappointed to find AK not able to uplift the movie. Story had potential but excess length, shocking editing, mixing love songs in a serious murder mystery, low budget and don't even get started on characters - none can rise above weak dialogues and screen behaviour and lengthy end scene.

Director (writes and editor) can't decide what hero is about - a failed writer quickly turns up to be a sub inspector and does not want to follow orders (but seems to lead everyone), loves to tell stories to hardcore criminal, encyclopaedia of psychopath killers, loveing boyfriend, brother and uncle and.... Why a hero has to be everything to everyone.

I should have stopped when in a post mortem room case is discussed at length with mutilated body lying in centre.

OTT has much much better alternatives.

Pilgrimage of movies on 50th Anniversary
26 February 2022
#1 movie of all time. Absolute Absolute Best.

Watched the 50th anniversary edition on a super screen and walked away (again!!) astonished.

Superlative craft in every aspect of movie making.

Only thought was to go home and watch the next two editions.

Pilgrimage of movies starts with Godfather!!

Exceptional. True. Powerful.
6 November 2021
Extraordinary true story narrated in most grounded manner. Unbelievable situation in free India; tribal minority have no human rights - it truth they don't exist (no legal documents, education or rights).

Suriya is superb and supported by superlative support cast, in particular Lijo Mol Jose (as Sengoni).; she excels in details.

Mr Gnanavel (writer and Director) sets us with real world examples of treatment of tribals by upper cast society members (verbal, physical, emotional) and equally allows time to share their simple dreams (home, family, education) of those forgotten.

It will force you to rethink on priorities and cherish contributions of one Mr Chandru who went beyond the cause and impacted 96,000 cases and transformed life of hundreds and thousands of tribals.

Not great. Expected more.
10 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Generally he is a good story teller and does well with voice modulation.

Issue is the jokes are mostly dull and not to level we expect including fair amount of naughty lines!! Normally he is very family friendly. Narrative is rushed and not smooth joining different parts. Didn't find many lines to laugh about.

Surely he will bounce back but not in this episode.

No Homeland or Fauda
10 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A good idea does not always translate in a great story. Decent lead actors and even better production especially filiming for close country. I assume language and details of places are reasonably accurate.

Key issue is the series does not want to rock the boat and please everyone with final outcome.

A promising start in first two episodes quickly decent into drama about fighting individual daemon, family relations, conflicted patriotism and plot holes where trained spy does not make rational decisions.

Nice effort but would have expected better outcome.

Astronomically brilliant. Must watch
30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
No words !! Simply a masterpiece in a time travel, superlative narrative and masterfully crafted, genius piece of production.

Viewer should expect to rise above 'normal' and enjoy an intertwined narrative presented by super caste across three seasons. Be prepared to be surprised as layers are peeled off. Don't be too hanged up about quantum entanglement or bootstrap paradox.

Best to take breaks after few episodes to collect thoughts as story transits through timelines. Do not be eager to google the family tree and let the series unfold it for you.

You are in for a ride in an even spaced story with lots of bread crumbs. One of the best on Netflix, it will make you think where is the beginning and where is the end. Enjoy.

Fall from grace
30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After a good season 1, which had a good narrative and production values, I had high hopes to continue with stronger S2.

S2 was a mere glamour display. Shallow conspiracy acts and opulent wealth display lead to nowhere. Series should have been discontinued.

S3 is a disaster. Characters seems to be full time consuming alcohol in some or other exotic location all the time. Actors are sleepwalking through the lines and nothing holds and frankly one can fast forward entire episodes if you are just after views.

What a fall from grace !!!

Nothing is Fine.....very disappointed
29 October 2020
For a very talented Sarah Cooper, this short film falls far far short of standards expected from her. Viewer can appreciate production restrictions due to covid, it is unbearable writing that comes as a shock.

Entire narrative is clueless expression (with selective political issues) and assistance from A level superstars in cameo can never ever save it from a disaster. "Nothing is fine" here and hope she will bounce back with a better product.

Journey to Nowhere
5 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Only positive is to find as an experience and more to follow and mature.

As to this particular series, it is a mess. Long stretch narrative, zero focus, mediocre production quality and acting. Producers could not decide if it is a story of love, social media, friendship, family relationship or regional conflicts. Nothing comes through.

Finally a very confusing end (fashionable lately) and viewers left to imagine how all links can even tie up? Probably next season if that even happens.

Weak plot and poor execution
3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Two Weeks to live has an intriguing caption which has no bearing on the plot. Overall, a weak story, poor execution and not so funny dialogues never allows potential of this series to raise to its potential. Even with a relatively modest run time (just over 2 hours), I would recommend to watch an alternative show.

Spoiler alert Inconceivable to find a young 21 year old Kim (Maisie Williams) who is living in isolation with her mother has only seen only four movies, unfamiliar with UK currency notes and wears high heals for first time walking into a run down pub. Her expressions and behaviour is like she has landed on an alien planet. Top of her wish list is a revenge is to execute her father's killer and what we find is instead of gun blazing, she engages in silly dialogues. Even in the final showdown expect more dialogues, a land mine which refuses to explode and Kim running towards real world.

There are many lame moments and you feel for the actors who with best of intent are never able to deliver. I wish it could be so much better.
