American Nightmare: Part One: The Boyfriend (2024)
Left me with more questions than answers
A story of a couple who fought against the system to prove that they were the victims of a crime.
A truly unique and horrible story that still to this day feels like an unsolved one. The series ended quite abruptly and there was very little info given of the convicted man. Probably intended but still the documentary felt a bit empty.
Who were the remaining assailants? Was the convicted man, a man with many mental illnesses, really the mastermind or was it somebody else? How was Aaron's ex Andrea connected to all of this? Why did the kidnapping group go to such extremes to create this ridiculous illusion to Aaron and Denise? A lot of things still don't make sense which is why the documentary left me as a viewer confused.
¿Quién Mató a Sara? (2021)
Why would anyone care about the mystery surrounding Sara's death?
First off, how tf could Alex be a master hacker when he's been in prison for the past 18 years? Absolutely ridiculous. He also happens to be very excellent at building bombs. This in mind, how utterly dumb is he feeling safe in his childhood home when clearly every single person in town knows he's there and crafting these attacks against the Lazcano family.
There is no character development even though time flies in this show. Everyone stays the same and all of the characters are unlikeable and pathetic. The series makes the viewer despise Sara so why on earth is the whole series build around her murder mystery? Also, nice stereotyping of mental illness.
The plot is repetitive and predictable, it's like watching the same scenes done over and over again -- who thought this was a good story to make an expensive series out of?
The Alienist (2018)
Marvelous series, I recommend!
Season 1 was great. Season 2 was also great. Great storytelling, more so in the second season. Love the grim atmosphere. Good, strong evolving characters. Some viewers are whining how little Laszlo was seen in the second season. I thought it was actually quite nice getting to know other members of 'the group' and see more from their point of view. And it wasn't like Laszlo wasn't in the picture at all, he gave his insight when needed, he didn't have to be the main character in this season. I'm enjoying this series a lot and will be watching the next season to come.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
...wait what?
I heard a lot of hype around this series, that it was super scary. Well, turned out it wasn't, at least for me. If you miss one small revelation that happens in the series, the whole plot will seem like a huge question mark. The aupair was a disaster. In _every_ single_ episode she was running around, panicking, screaming and yelling while everyone else were calm. She was a lot and frankly her character annoyed the heck out of me which, at least I don't think, was the intention. The romance between Peter and Rebecca was made to seem like a big deal in the beginning but then it basically got swept under the rug like it was never of any importance.
I liked the acting, the casting and the overall esthetics but not so much the aupair character or the script.
Rebecca (2020)
Another boring cliché movie
Seriously we've all seen the same exact story as a movie a billion times before. A rich good-looking white man with a mysterious past and his naive blonde wife. Oh, and there are also ghosts. The casting choices, I mean really? The whole cast is white, not to pull the race card here, but for real. Not a single asian or black? The movie is esthetically pretty but that's really all that's nice about it. Not worth really anyone's time unless if you're entertained by predictable scenes and before seen scripts.
