Vikings: The Last Act (2020)
So many great, defining shows ended in so short a time
Ive never done this before. Ive checked IMDB for as long as i can remember, 10 plus years every time i sought an average census for a show i might want to watch, or just to find that one user review to convince me to watch something which the average viewer base appraised poorly. I've looked to validate, and/or to find my distractions from life.
Heroes, Breaking bad, Madmen, Hannibal, Vikings, so many stories, all spanning years, so many stories that help to anchor so many other memories, and emotions as one moves through life. Vikings spanned nearly a decade, it was one of those shows that helped to develop a year "Oh whens the next season of vikings out?, 6 months? i look forward to it" mundane thoughts that added structure and anticipation to everyday life.
I just watched the final episode, and i let it sit for a moment, and looked for holes in it, a sense that it wasnt complete - always the cynic. But i couldnt. I saw the final scene, and i realised that id never have to have the thought of "all of those years, all of those hours, for this?" and that realisation alone, that a 'chapter' of life, and of tv ended, and i didnt feel even a little disappointment. That i can look back and feel validated that i always knew it would be fulfilling and that the time i spent following the story of Norway, and Ragnar, and his sons and all involved would amount to a conclusive feeling of worth, and satisfaction...thats more than one can hope for in todays television, and todays escape from day to day worries and stress.
So that was 2013 to 2020. I hope there are worlds, and characters and stories to come... if not better, than atleast equal to those weve just experienced, and that im so grateful for.
