Night Court (2023)
Not Off To A Good Start
I was excited when I found out about this reboot, even more so when I saw that John Larroquette was reprising his role as Dan Fielding. And as a huge fan of TBBT, I was very intrigued to see that Melissa Rauch would be the series lead.
However, after 2 episodes, I'm incredibly disappointed.
Two big problems (at least for me):
1. I honestly didn't laugh once. Seriously. Not once. The writing is bad. Even worse, the seemingly nonstop laugh track - annoying and disingenuous.
2. I know this is so, so, so, SO UNFAIR, but I had no idea I would be so bothered by listening to Melissa Rauch using her real voice. I guess after so many years of listening to her only as Bernadette, I just can't disassociate the two. Every time she opened her mouth I could barely process any of her dialogue because I was just so unsettled. I just kept thinking it was Bernadette trying to talk in a weird voice, one that I didn't enjoy very much.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
BCS Goes Out With A Whimper
Once again, before the episode even hit the airwaves, it was flooded with 10/10 ratings accompanied by over-the-top, outrageously laudatory reviews. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on here - the ratings manipulation isn't even subtle. Furthermore, once the episode aired for the general public and the less-than-stellar (to put it kindly) ratings and reviews started pouring in, these same people (I can only suppose) flocked back here to mark all these subpar reviews as "not helpful." This scheme to over-inflate the ratings and muffle the dissenters is grotesque.
The final episode, like the 5 that preceded it is. . . Meh. Frankly, I'm glad I rewatched the first 5 1/2 seasons (which were great!) during the season 6 break, because after seeing how bland and disappointing the final 6 episodes were I can't imagine ever wanting to rewatch the series again.
Basically, after Lalo's death (which was poorly written - he was such a great villain he deserved a significantly more interesting end) it was all downhill.
Fargo (2014)
Lies, lies, lies, yeah
I don't appreciate being lied to/deceived about the true story nature of the show. Shame on all the producers of the show, especially the Coen brothers, who apparently found it amusing to double down on the gimmick.
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Terrible acting
Worse script. Why on earth did they green light this train wreck (intended) of a movie? Did the producers think the gimmick of letting the real life guys play themselves would help sell tickets? The movie ended up being profitable, so I guess it "worked?" Just Venmo the real life guys the price of a movie ticket and skip the movie - time better spent.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
*Yawn*
This multiverse gimmick needs to stop. Now. It gives Marvel/Disney carte blanche to essentially manipulate the history of all characters, which in turn devalues the time we've spent with them in the past. I'm so not interested in following Marvel down this flagrantly money-grabbing path.
Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021)
Shame on Netflix
It's so bad it makes me want to cancel my account. Seriously Netflix, all of us who just had 90 min of our lives uselessly slaughtered deserve some combination of a refund and(or) apology.
La reina del flow (2018)
Don't Get Fooled
Don't get fooled like I was by this show's interminable presence in Netflix's Top 10. I should have trusted my instincts when I resisted it for several weeks. It's more-or-less a trashy Colombian Soap Opera that has a decent start but goes downhill - and to no where - very fast. Don't waste your time.
Young Rock (2021)
Bazinga!
Young Sheldon is heart-warming and funny.
Young Rock is just dumb. Guess that's what you get for shamefully copying without having a clue.
Mr. Mayor (2021)
Such a disappointment
As a child of the 80s I have a soft spot for all of the actors from Cheers (except for Kirstie Alley, of course - another perfectly good white girl ruined by Scientology). So of course I always root for a new Ted Danson project. And Tina Fey as a creator?!! How could this miss?
Well it does. By a LOT. It just isn't funny. In five episodes I've laughed once (ONCE! That isn't hyperbole!) and that was during the Chrissy Teigen cameo at the end of Episode 3.
Put a fork in it, this show is done.
