You asked for Action and Zack gave you all 2 hours of it non-stop.
19 April 2024
What more do the critics want honestly?

In the vast expanse of the cinematic universe, "Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver" has emerged as a polarizing yet intriguing addition. This sequel to "Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire" is a bold and ambitious effort by Zack Snyder, which continues the epic space saga. While the first installment was met with mixed reviews, the sequel has managed to carve its niche by focusing on action, visual spectacle, and a streamlined narrative.

To fully appreciate "Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver," it is essential to view it in the context of its predecessor. The narrative in Part One lays a solid foundation for the characters and the world-building. However, the sequel significantly benefits from this groundwork, providing a more cohesive and engaging story. The first part's slower pace and character development lay the groundwork for the action-packed, thrilling ride that Part Two offers. The combination of both parts creates a more complete and satisfying experience, allowing the audience to connect deeper with the characters and their journey.

One of the most significant improvements in Part Two is the increased focus on action and visual spectacle. While Part One was criticized for its short fight scenes, Part Two delivers a more satisfying experience with its extensive, well-choreographed action sequences. The film's final act is a visual feast, featuring a spectacular battle sequence that showcases Zack Snyder's directorial prowess. The combination of stunning visuals, intense action, and a powerful score creates an immersive cinematic experience that is hard to forget.

There's rumors of a "Director's Cut" edition with more than four hours of the entire "Rebel Moon", I think this extended version is expected to offer a more comprehensive and detailed look at the story, characters, and world-building. With Snyder's reputation for delivering epic, visually stunning films, a "Director's Cut" could potentially receive a more positive reception. The additional runtime would allow for more in-depth exploration of the characters' motivations, relationships, and the overall narrative, which could address some of the criticisms leveled at the first two parts.

I think "Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver" is a significant improvement over its predecessor, offering a more engaging and action-packed experience. The combination of both parts creates a more cohesive and satisfying narrative, while the focus on action and visual spectacle in Part Two makes for a thrilling cinematic experience. The potential of a "Director's Cut" edition could further enhance the film, providing a more comprehensive and detailed look at the story, characters, and world-building.

While the "Rebel Moon" saga may not be perfect, it is undoubtedly an ambitious and visually stunning effort that deserves recognition for its unique blend of action, adventure, and science fiction.

A Disappointing Series with a Weak Link - Bruce
7 January 2024
The Brothers Sun is a new series that has recently hit our screens, and while it has its moments, it ultimately falls short of expectations. The main issue lies in one of the main characters, Bruce, who single-handedly ruins the series with his lacklustre performance and weak character development and unrealistically annoying twists.

In the series, Bruce is a character who makes annoying decisions that don't seem realistic towards the end of the series. This not only makes it difficult to connect with him as a character but also takes away from the overall enjoyment of the show.

One of the main problems with Bruce is that his character arc is not well-developed. He is a one-dimensional character who lacks any real depth or complexity. This makes it hard to understand his motivations and makes his actions seem contrived and unrealistic.

Another issue with Bruce is that he makes decisions that don't seem to make sense. For example, towards the end of the series, he makes a decision that puts his family in danger, and it feels like it was done for the sake of the plot rather than being a natural progression of his character. This makes it hard to take the series seriously and takes away from the overall enjoyment of the show.

The series also suffers from poor pacing and a lack of direction. It seems like the writers are unsure of where they want to take the story, and as a result, the series feels disjointed and confusing. This is particularly evident in the way that Bruce's character is handled. He is given very little to do but whine and whine and play dumb the entire series, and his actions often feel forced and contrived.

In conclusion, The Brothers Sun is a cool idea for a series that is let down by a weak link - Bruce. His one-dimensional character and lack of development plus an unrealistic annoying behaviour make it hard to connect with him or to care about his journey and quite literally leave a bad taste in the mouth. The series also suffers from poor pacing and a lack of direction, which only adds to the frustration of watching it. If you're looking for a new series to watch just to pass time then go for it but by episode 7 I gave up as it became unbearable.

Exceptionally well done
21 October 2023
First of all, keep an open mind when you watch this. Whether you are a believer in extraterrestrial beings or not, there's something to learn from this exceptionally well-done documentary about a woman who definitely had a story to tell.

There were times when I was almost totally convinced, and there were times when I had doubts about certain viewpoints. That, indeed, was the rollercoaster experience while watching this beautiful piece. The animation by Inka Kendzia was just astounding and kept things interesting throughout this just over 1-hour piece of work.

The narration by Dr. John Kani is simply amazing. It's a good watch!

Utter Magnificent Madness
30 August 2023
Utter magnificence madness, pure fun from beginning to end. Those familiar with Ben Wheatley's signature flair from films like "Kill List" and "In the Earth" might be taken aback by the sheer audacity and thrill he brings to "Meg 2: The Trench." Unlike his previous venture, "Rebecca," Wheatley dives deep, and not just into the ocean's abyss.

Jason Statham, reprising his role as Jonas, the deep-sea diver from the Zhang Institute, brings an energy that's hard to miss. While the first film introduced us to the prehistoric terror, the Megalodon, this sequel takes a twist. Jiuming, played by the ever-versatile Wu Jing, believes he can tame the beast. But as fate would have it, chaos ensues, and not just from the giant shark.

Rather than a mere chase, Wheatley takes us on a journey to the megalodon's home, the trench. But the real surprise? An unexpected human adversary lurking in the shadows, exploiting the ocean's treasures. The sequences, especially one involving a treacherous walk on the ocean floor, are executed with a finesse that only Wheatley can deliver.

Amidst the chaos, the bond between Jonas and Meiying (Sophia Cai) stands out, offering a touch of humanity in a world of monsters. And just when you think the film might be losing its bite, Wheatley throws in a twist, bringing the action right to a tourist hotspot. The climax is a spectacle, a testament to Wheatley's ability to blend horror, action, and dark humor seamlessly.

However, what truly stands out is Wheatley's refusal to conform. While the narrative might seem familiar, his execution is anything but. It's not just about the shark or the hero saving the day; it's about the journey, the thrill, and the unexpected turns.

In a world where imagination sets the limit, "Meg 2: The Trench" proves that there's no boundary to cinematic brilliance. Dive in, the waters are just right.

Enjo the film for what it is.

Hemsworth's commitment to the role is evident in every scene, and his on-screen presence commands attention. Each character has their moment to shine, contributing to the overall tension and building a sense of camaraderie within Rake's team. The chemistry among the cast members is palpable, enhancing the believability of their relationships and making their interactions all the more compelling.

The action sequences in "Extraction 2" are nothing short of breathtaking. From intense shootouts to exhilarating chase scenes, the film keeps the audience on the edge of their seats throughout. The fight choreography is meticulously crafted, showcasing Hargrave's background as a stunt coordinator. The hand-to-hand combat scenes are visceral and gritty, leaving a lasting impact. The use of practical effects and minimal reliance on CGI adds an authentic and visceral feel to the action, making it all the more immersive.

While "Extraction 2" delivers on its promise of adrenaline-pumping action, it also explores deeper themes of redemption and sacrifice. The film explores the human cost of violence and the moral complexities faced by its characters. It delves into the personal struggles of Tyler Rake, as he grapples with his past and finds redemption through his selfless acts. These emotional undercurrents add depth to the film and elevate it beyond a mere action spectacle.

Hypnotic (2023)
6/10
"Hypnotic" is an intriguing sci-fi thriller that offers an average movie-watching experience.
31 May 2023
Directed by Robert Rodriguez, known for his unique visual style, this 2023 release brings together an ensemble cast led by Ben Affleck, Alice Braga, and J. D. Pardo, among others.

While the film boasts a talented cast, their performances don't quite reach the level of greatness. Ben Affleck delivers a solid portrayal of the troubled protagonist, but it falls short of being truly remarkable. The supporting actors also deliver decent performances, but none of them truly stand out or leave a lasting impact.

The screenplay, co-written by Rodriguez and Max Borenstein, presents an intriguing concept with the exploration of hypnosis and its consequences. However, the execution of the storyline leaves something to be desired. The plot lacks depth and fails to fully engage the audience, missing opportunities to delve into the complexities of the human mind.

Robert Rodriguez's directorial vision is evident throughout the film, with his signature visual style bringing some visually striking moments to the screen. However, the pacing and overall direction of the film could have been tightened to create a more immersive and gripping experience.

The production value of "Hypnotic" is commendable, with well-designed sets and competent visual effects. The cinematography captures the mood of the film adequately, but it doesn't offer any groundbreaking or innovative shots that would elevate it to a higher level.

The score, composed by Rebel Max, complements the atmosphere of the film but doesn't leave a lasting impression. It serves its purpose in enhancing certain scenes, but fails to create a truly memorable or unique musical identity.

In the end, "Hypnotic" falls into the realm of an average sci-fi thriller. It presents interesting ideas and features competent performances, but it lacks the depth and execution to make it a standout film in the genre. While it may entertain audiences looking for a decent suspenseful experience, it doesn't leave a lasting impact or offer any remarkable cinematic moments.

Despite its flaws, "Hypnotic" can still be appreciated for its attempts to explore the power of hypnosis and its potential consequences. It serves as a reminder of the challenges that arise when delving into the depths of the human mind. However, it falls short of fully capitalizing on its intriguing premise, leaving viewers with a sense of missed opportunities.

Overall, "Hypnotic" is a movie that offers an average viewing experience. It has its moments of intrigue and visual appeal, but it lacks the depth and execution to make it truly memorable. While it may appeal to fans of the genre or those looking for a mildly entertaining thriller, it doesn't reach the heights of greatness that would warrant a higher rating.

Rating: 6.5/10.

Mission: Laughter Accomplished - Guy Ritchie's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre
14 May 2023
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is a solid spy action-comedy movie that delivers what it promises: fast-paced action, witty humor, and a star-studded cast. Directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, and Hugh Grant, this movie tells the story of a spy who must retrieve a stolen high-tech device before an arms dealer can sell it to the highest bidder.

The movie kicks off with a bang, as we are introduced to Nathan Jasmine, a private security consultant hired by the British government to retrieve the stolen device. Nathan hires Orson Fortune, a super-spy played by Jason Statham, to lead a team made up of Sarah Fidel, JJ Davies, and others. The team travels across Europe, from Madrid to Cannes, to Turkey, to retrieve the device and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

The action scenes are well-choreographed and the humor is sharp, with plenty of witty one-liners and banter between the characters. Statham, in particular, delivers a strong performance as the lead spy, another standout performance comes from Aubrey Plaza as Sarah Fidel, a skilled hacker who adds a much-needed dose of humor to the film. Hugh Grant also delivers a great performance as the arms dealer, Greg Simmonds, who is both charming and menacing at the same time.

While the movie does have its flaws, such as some predictable plot twists and a lack of depth in some of the characters, it still manages to deliver an entertaining ride. The story is engaging enough to keep you invested until the end, and the chemistry between the characters is palpable.

Overall, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is a fun, action-packed movie that is worth watching, especially for fans of the spy genre. While it may not be a groundbreaking movie, it delivers on what it promises and will keep you entertained for its 1 hour and 50-minute runtime. I rate it a 7 out of 10, and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, lighthearted movie to watch.

The Mother (2023)

"The Mother": Jennifer Lopez's Thrilling Action-Packed Journey with an Unexpected Ally"
12 May 2023
In "The Mother," Jennifer Lopez plays a military-trained assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she's never met from ruthless criminals. Along the way, she's aided by an Agent played by Omari Hardwick.

While the plot of the movie is a bit formulaic, the performances by the cast elevate the material. Jennifer Lopez tries to deliver an okay performance as the titular character, showing off her action skills while also conveying the emotional weight of a mother trying to connect with her estranged daughter.

Omari Hardwick tries to steal the show as the Agent tasked with helping Lopez's character. He brings a quiet intensity to his role, delivering lines with a sense of gravitas that makes you believe he's a seasoned veteran of the intelligence community. His chemistry with Lopez is palpable, and it's clear that the two actors have a strong rapport on screen.

Director Niki Caro keeps the action moving at a brisk pace, and the New York City setting provides a fresh backdrop for the story. However, the script doesn't offer many surprises or twists, and the villains feel like stock characters without much depth or motivation.

Overall, "The Mother" is an average action thriller elevated by average performances. While it may not reinvent the genre or offer much in the way of originality, it's a competent and entertaining film that will satisfy fans of the genre for one night.
