The long anticipated Oppenheimer finally arrived and despite the fact that I was expecting this to be some of the greatest cinematic feats ever I was still amazed at how much better that was than I expected it to be.
The story is expertly crafted and structured. It utilizes non-linear story telling to delay clarifying charaters motivations and thus adding rewatchability to the movie. The movie is 3 hours long but that doesn't mean it is bloated. Quite the opposite actually as it keeps you at the edge of your seat for the whole runtime and there is not one scene that appears to be out of place.
The combination of beautiful, expressive cinematography(credit goes to Hoyten van Hoytema) and color grading paired with the bonechilling score from Ludwig Goransson really complements the immersion of the movie.
There are tons of stars in the cast and not a single one misses a beat. I will not even attempt to name all of them so I will say a word aboit the ones that left me with the strongest impression. Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh execute their roles in spectacular fashion. Matt Damon really put his all into the role and you can tell. RDJ is now officialy free of the Tony Stark public image in what is probably his best role ever. Hopefully he gets an Oscar for supporting role because he really does deserve it. I'm going to briefly mention Kenneth Branagh and Rami Malek who also deliver outstanding albeit small roles. There are also many more but I don't want to spend the whole review listing names.
But the REAL standout was Cillian Murphy in the lead role. He potrayed such a complex and multilayered character to absolute perfection. One can really only watch and wonder how such a mastery of the craft is even possible.
This is one of Nolan's best, probably since Inception. It is undeniably on of the greatest movies that I have had the pleasure to see. Truly a display of brilliancy and nothing short of genius.
Absolute perfection 10/10.
