The Happening (2008)
Guilty pleasure
I know its very bad and it doesn't make sense at all but i got to admit i had fun watching it. Watching this movie is a unique experience to say the least. The idea for the plot of the movie is great, the execution is terrible. I will always remember this movie... maybe for the wrong reason.
Blue Mountain State (2010)
We need to enjoy it for what it is.
Its one of the best Comedy Tv series ever, yet it only have 3 short seasons and a movie that only exist because the fans paid for it on kickstarters. Why is that ? Can someone explain to me why no producer thought it would be a good idea to produce more seasons ?
With that being said, time have past and we need to enjoy it for what it is. Blue Mountain State is basically a college type of show with alcool, drugs and sex being in the forefront of every subject/episode of the show. The show is very self aware about his situation and purpose for comedy. Yes, this show is very offensive, stupid and kind of mysoginistic at times. Does that mean nobody can laugh at this type of humor anymore? Absolutely not !
This show is not for everyone and its fine like that. I think if you do watch it, you will laugh... a lot ! I found myself rewatching this show at least once a year every now and then. I strongly recommand it.
South Park (1997)
Never juge a book by its cover
South Park, on the surface, look like a immature cartoon that just try to do offensive joke just for the sake of it, and yes, this is sometime the case. But that being said, when you dive into the series, you realise how South Park is just a satirical version of our society and his social flaws.
Its also worth pointing that this is a rare case for me of a TV series that just get better season after season. Every season are great, and they are still a the top of their game, 24 years later. Maybe its because the world is getting more and more divisive and silly, and its giving plenty of material for Trey and Matt for the show.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Amazing, but should have ended years ago.
I still remember when it all started. The first couples of seasons of the Walking Dead were amazing. It was all about being in a small group and trying to survive in the loneliness of the world the zombies had left behind. Back in the day, season 3 had offer for the first time a full human vs human storyline, combine with the walkers of course. It was great back then because it was a suprise and it never had happen before in the series.
Unfortunatly, since then, the writers/producers where already showing they're lack of idea and the cycle of the formula of the Walking Dead. The last season i watch is season 8 and, my god, it was bad. So many tribes and storyline were now part of the story. But the thing is, the expansion of the worlds is not the core of the problem. Take Games of Thrones for exemple. The world is far bigger, the storyline and character were far more complicated, but still, it was easier to follow than in the season 7 and 8 of the Walking Dead. Why is that ? It feel like they just didn't know where to evolve the series so they make every season bigger and bigger just for the sake of it. At that point, i just didn't care.
Overall, i would say the series is good until season 4, after that its average until season 6. Season 7 and 8 were just bad in my opinion. Still, i recommend it for the early season.
The Office (2005)
Amazing series, lasted a little to long
The office is an amazing tv series that depict funny moments in a normal workplace. Most of the character are awesome. There is a lot of layers to characters personnality, ambitions and motivations. I love the documentary, type of style, of the show.
My only criticism is in the last 3 season, where creator and writer clearly seems to run out of idea. Without being terrible, from season 6 to the end of the show, character evolution, new character and some plot idea are terrible. The jokes and romance become cheap, lazy and even non logical in some instance. Kevin became so dumb down in the latest season he's becoming charicatural, They also destroy Andy's character.
Its still worth it tho. If you never watch this series, please do, you won't regret it.
Space Force (2020)
Came for the laugh, stay for the plot
My love for the office bring me to try this series. In a comedic sense, this is very different. Most of the jokes are very subtle and are modern reference of political and social irony that has been happening since the last decade.
Some character are awesome, Dr Mallory being my favorite. Some character like Tony and Erin, are unbearable in my opinion. Tony is just way to much crazy and annoying, Erin being whinny and spoil. The plot in the other hand, is mostly great. The topics and moral dilemma are interesting.
The series is average for me. I appreciated this style and uniqueness but at the same time i got to say it can get very boring at time, especially at the first half of the series in my opinion.
2020 Golden Globe Awards (2020)
For Ricky only
The Golden globes, in a award sense, is only an echo of what the oscar has to offer. But that being said, i will have respect for the golden globes association forever for allowing controversial comedians like Gervais to animate the event, unlike the oscar who ban Kevin Hart because of some offensive tweet that has been write 10 years ago.
My 10/10 review is only pointed at the man Ricky Gervais, who made probably the best and most important comedy speech in an award ceremony, of all time... Unlike every award ceremony before, Ricky Gervais understood that the main audience should not be the 200 peoples who were in the ceremony, but for the millions of peoples at home who are watching this.
Ricky was going all in, by making jokes about Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein and the hypocrisy of hollywood in general. The punchline, jokes and target was all spot on. What was even funnier than the jokes themself, was some of the actor reaction. A combination of laugh, shame and ego hurting was reflecting on a lot of star face. Ricky's joke were sometime deliver in a brutal way, but Ricky have also a lot of love for some of the people in the ceremony, including Scorsese and Dicaprio.
In an era of political correctness and cancel culture, where humour is more and more fragile, Ricky come on the stage and deliver the most important comedy speech of the decade. This type of humour need to live on.
