Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Let's welcome a new genre
This film is very good and completely worth the watch. If you have not seen the first one then prepare to be a tad bit confused and reluctant to enjoying this film. After watching the film piece itself together in conjunction to part one I was very impressed. This type of intricacy leaves its audiences wanting more like it from similar genres. A film like Insidious has created its own genre of cult terror. But lets face it, nowadays there seem to be some slacking in the creative minds of writers. The acting was great and while I remained interested in what was going to happen next, I did catch myself yawning a few times at the let down scares following the dramatic build ups. I think if you go into this film expecting to see a great thriller, not horror then you'll be just fine. Otherwise, don't set your standards too high, for what the movie tries to accomplish it passes, terrifying the audience. For what others would expect, horror, it fails.
We're the Millers (2013)
Funny, Funny, Funny
Now I'll be honest I am not a big fan of the comedy genre. But ever since Hangover pt.1 brought me to tears I've been compelled to give it a chance. The film from start to finish delivers. It is funny, charismatic and simply a pleasure to watch. The moment the family comes together to call themselves "The Millers" you know this is going to be entertaining. Always been a fan of Jennifer Aniston since "Friends" and like a geek died at the end when the set played the prank of playing the Friends theme song during one of their takes. I couldn't leave the theater, I was busy singing along :-) I think if you are looking for a cute film, with a cute cast and just a group of misfits pulling it together in the end, then this is the film for you.
The Awakening (2011)
Movie night must see
This film at first I was hesitant to watch due to the fact that it was placed on Netflix for instant streaming, and lets face it, Netflix instant streaming doesn't really hold a good reputation for must see flicks. But this is different, this film is short and sweet. A great movie to watch while at home with a significant other to simply enjoy the eerie atmosphere this film does a great job at depicting.
A film with an interesting turn of events, I love the story line of woman ghost hunter who is out to prove that ghosts simply does not exist. Until she is confronted by her own demons leading to the revelation that there may be some questioning to her theory of pseudo spirits. A must see for a night in and a I guess Netflix has redeemed themselves, somewhat......
Evil Dead (2013)
Absolutely Fantastic
Wow! What a relief this was to see that horror still exists and directors are beginning to understand the genre. Loved, loved, loved this move from start to finish. Excellent character development, I felt the love between brother and sister which was absolutely great! I went into this movie with an open mind, having never seen the original and had no idea what I was up against. The gore, the story, the plot, rising resolutions all held the attention of the audience and even caused me to shake a little. I trembled as the movie reached its climax and found myself completely horrified from all the gore and the deaths which had taken place.
I am not here to spoil this adventure for anyone and encourage individuals who are looking to see horror revived to take time and watch this movie. Great way to start the spring and a great way to say "no more BS horror flicks". Thank you Evil Dead for setting the bar of what horror is supposed to look like.....
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
Absolute waste of time!!
First off let me just say that as a film in a franchise this was absolutely horrible!!!! I was bored out of my mind and my friend was yawning throughout the film. We did, however, get a good laugh when the grown men in the theater were screaming. Much of the scenes shown in the trailer did not make it in the film which is disappointing. With about seven scenes where we actually flinch, the movie is completely drawn out and a sad attempt to end a franchise that was held in such high regards. Other than that Katie's presence was a plus and the acting of the young girl Alex. Please do not waste your money, time or screams.
The Bourne Legacy (2012)
Short and Sweet
I did not see any of the Bourne Movies prior to going into the theater and therefore did not know what to expect. BUT decided to give it a chance since one of my favorite actresses (Rachel Weisz) was among the casting. I was impressed! I loved the action, the heart pounding chase scenes, the great story line of wanting to break free and develop a mind of your own kind of thing. After finishing this film I couldn't wait to get home and see the previous Bourne movies and now have become a fan of the entire franchise. I thought the movie delivered from the dialogue to the action absolutely loved it! www.kombinationkoutureco.com
The Possession (2012)
I expected more.....
I am a huge fan of the exorcism movie genre and this movie just simply did not meet my expectations.
Now, before I go on to say that this movie was all around bad I will first start off my saying it was not. The opening sequence was a great way to set the tone of what is to be a good film. The possessed child, Emily delivered her character very well and will always remain memorable, sort of like that of Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan). whilst watching this film I couldn't help but be scared, the film delivers at being suspenseful and scary but not horrific. Special effects makeup, short demonic dialogue, the death of only 1 character and extreme harm to 2 characters does not in my opinion define horror. Lacking originality during the ending of the film I was reminded of "The Devil Inside" with the exorcism performed in the desolate hospital and the demon flipping out causing harm to her loved ones and the person performing the exorcism along with the demonic transitioning from the Daughter to the Father. In comparison "The Devil Inside", was from Mother to Daughter.
Originality in this film came from the Jewish exorcist. Not done before, every one of this films predecessors turn to Christian exorcist to perform exorcisms, so that was a plus. As well as the families struggles which remains relate-able to all viewers in some shape, way or form.
I won't spend to much time with this any longer but I did like the film as an overall production just expected a little more based on the teasers and trailers especially since the first Exorcist movie (Linda Blair) still remains a perfect 10 therefore, the best in its genre. I only wish that production companies would stop being so hasty to release films that just does not live up to its expected genre.
Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
By Far the best movie for the Halloween season!!!
I gave this movie a seven simply because I have honestly seen better, BUT make no mistake this had me screaming so loud that my throat began to hurt. It was creative, inventive, distinct, horrifying and all in its own way. The characters were great and the family was so convincing that for a while I forgot this movie isn't based on actual events. The Paranormal Activity trilogy is by far one of the best I have ever seen since the Michael Myers reign. I loved every aspect of it, parts one and two had me scared but this had and still has me terrified by far. While I caught the midnight release of this film and I did not see many of the parts shown in the trailer on the big screen, it just makes me more excited to purchase the DVD once it comes out. Better yet I think I'll do a pre-order. Once again folks if your looking to be scared this Halloween season then this is the movie for you! I just hope and pray that this is it, the last film of the story line because what better way to finish, than to finish with a BANG!
Black Swan (2010)
Oh-M-Gee
I must say I first became a Natalie Portman fan from her film The Other Boelyn Girl, and after viewing this film I do not regret it. I was only impressed with her before but now I am absolutely convinced that she is a star in the making. I also must say that Natalie Portman is in a position to earn an Oscar for her outstanding performance in this film. Everything about this movie was just absolutely superb, the acting, the dialogue, plot I MEAN EVERYTHING. The transition she made from being the white swan to becoming her ruthless, dark alter ego the black swan was simply amazing! I can ramble on for days at how great this film truly is and how as an actor she captures every moment and demands the spotlight. Mila Kunis as a co-star was also simply amazing to watch on screen. Together they made this story both compelling and engaging. I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers and this film helped to remind me why, I was glued to the screen from beginning to end. I do not want to give away to much information, just letting everyone know that this is a great night out and a DVD I do one day intend to own........
