Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
This was good in some spots but bad in others. Minor Spoilers Nothing big.
I'm willing to forgive some of the bad cause I know they have to be different from the other films. The worst case is Flash Thompson who instead of being a jock is a nerdy guy who is actually smaller than Peter. And just acts rudely most of the time. This guy is not going to be at all like the guy in the comics who after Highschool joined the marines and became a war hero. Also the reason he hates Peter is because Peter is better at answering questions in class and in physics bowel than he is. I'm not kidding.
Peter has s a friend named Ned who resembles nothing of Ned Leeds the only Spidey character with said name. He really is some character from the Ultimate comic Universe named Ganke where he is friends with the newer Spider-Man Miles Morales. Why isn't his name just Ganke? I guess because it's not an American name.
There isn't really any romance in this movie for Peter who keeps having to ditch being with Liz (who is supposed to be similar to Liz Allen in the comics. Though her last name turns out not to be Alle. But I'll get to that in the spoiler section at the end of the review. The other girl Michelle is rather boring and spends most of the film acting like she doesn't want to be in the movie.
Now Michael Keaton as Vulture is awesome. Wish we could see him as a villain more often in movies. I also liked some of his other crew. Shocker wasn't too bad. I look forward to seeing more of him in the next movie. Hope they give him his more classic look later.
Also I will admit I would've rather had Peter be a bit older and if you want to see an adult Peter Parker you probably won't be seeing one for quite a while in the MCU since he's 15 in this movie and will probably be 16 in the next one.
And for those worried about Tony Stark/Iron Man, he is a supporting character but does help Peter out as Iron Man a few times in the movie. But he is only in it maybe 10-15 minutes at the most. Since Peter is only 15 in this he is under supervision by Stark who tells him what he should and shouldn't do as Spider-Man. Over all a 7/10. Way better than the atrocity of Spider-Man 3. I still prefer ASM 1 and 2 though hopefully the next movie might change my mind. Also you might want to skip to end credit scene which contains absolutely nothing interesting.
Civil War Battlefields (1997)
This documentary is pretty good!
While not as detailed as other more known documentaries such as Ken Burn's Documentary I think it does a good job. It has reenactment footage in it that is neat though it is censored in the battle scenes. No blood just people falling over acting like they've been shot. It shows maps and footage of the areas of the battle. The 2 historians that come on have interesting things to say about the history of the battles. It's pretty good. The music is also pretty good. You should check it out.
The Howling (1981)
This movie isn't the most terrible film but it's not faithful to the book.
I admit I never saw this movie as a kid. I did see an American werewolf in London though. The special effects/werewolves in this are amazing. But the characters are too far away from what they were in the novel. In the book, everyone in Drago pretty well keep to themselves. In this they're all patients of Karen's psychiatrist. It isn't like that in the book. Also in the book the rapist of Karen isn't a werewolf and is arrested at the beginning. In this he is and worse yet they took the character Marsha from the book who seemed like she was related to gypsies/magic users and made her the rapist's brother. I hate that.
They also changed Karen from a regular woman working in a hotel to her being a news reporter. The worse offense is getting rid of the character Inez Polk who Karen meets after she arrives in Drago that lives in the next town over. Instead she's replaced by 2 different characters who in the film Karen has known Karen for years.
I will say Marsha was played by an unbelievably attractive actress but she pales in comparison to book Marsha who seemed a bit more intimidating. The thing that brings the rating down is Karen becoming a werewolf at the end. I will say this movie is entertaining but to me it pails in comparison to the book's character development and plot.
Superman III (1983)
Horrible excuse for a Superman movie!
What were they thinking when they made this? This movie barely focuses on Superman and mainly focuses on Richard Pryor acting like an unfunny idiot. Also even though Richard Pryor seems to have no experience using a computer he somehow gets hired to do payroll on a computer. Not only that but he intentionally does it wrong and gives everyone more money than he should. Instead of being angry about this his boss actually likes that he did this. Seriously? That is dumb!
Also who the heck wants to see a Superman movie with a plot point about someone doing payroll? There are maybe a few scenes with Superman that are entertaining but Superman/Clark Kent is not focused on enough. This movie spends way more time on comedian Richard Pryor than it does on Superman.
The villains in this movie are not even from the comics. Some say the giant robot at the end is supposed to be Braniac but having read old comics with him that is a bunch of bolony. Frankly this whole movie feels like it was originally supposed to be a Richard Pryor comedy and then they added in Superman at the last second.
Some might like the scene of Superman turning bad then turning into 2 different people but frankly I think that's really confusing and don't care for it. Anyway this movie is awful and I don't get how any sane person could like it.
Spider-Man (1994)
The first 3 seasons are the best.
That's why I give this an 8/10. In the first season Spidey fights some robots called Spider Slayers. The first season had some of my favorite villains like Kingpin (though I hated as the seasons went on he was pretty much behind everything and making all the other villains work for him with the exception of Allyster Smythe and Silvermain and his daughter Alicia), Doc Ock, Venom/Eddie Brock (I liked the development Eddie Brock had before he became Venom), Hob Goblin (voiced by Mark Hamill who does an excellent job just like he did with Joker on all the animated Batman cartoons in the 90s), Mysterio, Hydro Man (who I didn't care for) and Scorpion. The later seasons were good. I really liked season 2 where they introduced Morbious who hadn't been in a cartoon at all previously. After season 3 it went downhill a bit. Let me explain my main gripe with season 4. At the end of season 3 Green Goblin throws Mary Jane off a bridge and she falls into a dimensional portal made by a device called the time dilation accelerator which had been in a previous episode. She is not seen again. Then in season 4 she suddenly appears again. But unfortanatley it turns out she's a clone created by Dr. Miles Warren (who in the comics had cloned Gwen Stacey cause he was in love with her and also had an alter ego The Jackel). What's also stupid is that it turns out she was cloned with Hydro Man's DNA. He had died in the first season but then they had him cloned by this Miles Warren. Hydro Man was a guy that was in love with Mary Jane when she was younger. He wanted to be with her and forced Miles Warren to clone her. This is nothing at all like the original clone saga of the comics. Though Hydro Man never had a relationship with Mary Jane in the comics which is a reason why I didn't like him in the cartoon. There were some good episodes in Season 4 like the ones where Harry is the Green Goblin or the trial of Robbie Robertson. Or the ones with Black Cat. But the clone saga was done rather poorly. Now the 5th season was kind of good though I would've left the clone saga out of the finale. Not to mention the last 2 episodes take place in an alternate universe where Peter Parker loses Aunt May and turns to a life of crime. I do kind of like these last 2 episodes but I really would've rather it ended with Spidey rescuing Mary Jane from the dimension she was stuck in. Another episode I didn't care for in season 4 was one where an actress who I don'tremember ends up a cyborg and is in love with Mysterio/Quentin Beck/Mysterio. They both end up blowing themselves up in an underground facility. I really thought that was dumb. That wasn't in the comics either. Overall this is a good show but the later episodes in season 4 aren't that good. Oh. I forgot. Another part of season 4 was good. It was called Six Forgotten Warriors and deals with Peter's parents. It was really good.
The Wolfman (2010)
This movie is funny!
I decided to watch this again and ended up deciding I liked it somewhat. This movie made me laugh my butt off! Like the part where the guy gets chased into a mud pit by the wolf man and he tries to shoot himself in the head but the gun is empty. Or the mental institution scene! That was so funny! Plus all the villagers that chase after him or get killed by him are so stupid it's funny. Anthony Hopkins is a lot of fun to watch. Benicio Del Torro is also unintentionally funny at times too.
I don't know what else to say about it. But if you want something so bad it's good you should check this out.
Matlock (1986)
I really liked this show growing up.
I used to watch this show with my Grandparents. I really enjoyed it. I liked Matlock and his assistants Charlene Matlock (who is his daughter) and Tyler Hudson(Kene Holliday). In later seasons Tyler Hudson gets replaced by Conrad McMasters (Clarence Gilyrd Jr. who also happens to be Theo in Die Hard) which I don't mind. The reason I give it an 8 is because around the middle of Season 8 they replace Conrad with an inexperienced lawyer named Cliff who is supposed to be funny but comes off as a complete moron. Plus another thing I don't like is how they replaced the actress for Charlene 3 times throughout the series. Other than that a great show. Stay away from the last few seasons though.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
This movie is just bad.
I really didn't like this movie. The main character is a rapist who lives in London England. He is in charge of a gang. He treats everybody in the gang like crap. So about 20 minutes into the movie the gang smashes milk mixed with some kind of drug (can't remember what it was, also he had just gone in to kill a woman at a house) into his face which makes him lose his vision for a while. The police pick him up and take him to jail. He is put in prison. Then while he is in prison he hears of an experiment that will make bad people good. So he participates in it. The experiment involves him watching violent images on a movie theater screen while it plays Beetoban (can't remember how you spell it) with his eyes winged open with well I forget how they made his eyes stay open. It drives him crazy. But after that he gets to go home. Some guy says something he doesn't like while he is there and he tries to beat him up but then he falls over when he tries to do it. Later his parents kick him out of their house and he ends up running elsewhere. He runs into the guys from the gang he used to lead. They're cops now. They beat him up. He ends up at a house of man who's daughter was raped and killed by him and his gang. The man doesn't recognize him at first but later he does recognize him and tries to kill him. He ends up in the hospital where the government guys who sent him to the experiment come back and release him. But then at the very end he goes back to being a rapist! That's what I hate about the movie! My cousin likes this and said, "I liked it because it's about how you can change the way someone thinks but you can't change who they are." I hated the ending. He should've been good at the end but he goes back to being a rapist! And that is why I give this a 1. He should've just gone away from crime and led an ordinary life but he didn't. I've actually heard it's the opposite in the book where he does give up being a rapist. Anyway that is just what I think. Although this cousin who liked it is the only person in my family that likes it.
Independence Day (1996)
I don't get all the hate for this movie.
I admit that 6/10 isn't that horrible of a rating. But I think this movie deserves more than that. Sure the aliens just decide to blow up earth for no good reason. Sure the way the way they defeat the aliens with a virus is somewhat silly. But there are sillier things in other movies. But you know if you're looking for a really great plot then don't watch Independence Day. If you want a great plot watch One Flew Over the cuckoo's nest and Schindler's list (i like both of those movies). But if you don't care for action/sci fi movies then don't watch it. But just because you don't like it that much doesn't mean you should give it a 1. Anyway, if you like Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum then you should watch this movie. But if not don't watch it. I will stop talking now.
Casino (1995)
I liked Goodfellas but this really wasn't that great.
I didn't really like this movie I generally don't really care for mafia movies as much as other dramas but this really seemed dumb. It made little sense to me at the end. You don't really know what happened to the main character's (Robert DeNero) wife and kid. I am not that huge of fan of Sharon Stone but besides that I really can't fathom why she was nominated for an Oscar for this. Joe Pesci pretty much plays the exact same short tempered jerk that he plays in Goodfellas. Only this time he is his own boss. It was so long too. I liked how The Simpsons parodied the scene in this movie where Robert DeNero has a guy's hand hit with a hammer. That scene isn't that great either. I also didn't care for the amount of cussing in this movie. It had 422 uses of the Fword. Which is a record. Almost every single line in this movie used the Fword. I know Goodfellas used the Fword but not nearly as much as this movie did. Overall this movie was boring and I didn't really like any of the characters.
Lost in Translation (2003)
This is the most boring movie ever!
How can anyone like this movie? How could the academy nominate it for best actor in a leading role much less give it an Oscar for best screenplay? It's boring. Some guy is stuck in Japan and refuses to come home. Meets some young woman probably 20 or more years younger than him and hangs out with her. Thankfully they don't have sex or anything but they really do nothing. Somebody does karaoke. But I got an hour and a half into and was so bored out of my mind that I quit watching it. I can't understand how anyone could like this. If you like movies with an actual plot like One Flew over the Cukoo's Nest or Schindler's List, stay as far away from this as possible.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
This movie wasn't that great.
I was disappointed by a lot of things. 1) Sand Man turning out to be Uncle Ben's Killer. That was wrong! Sam should've been able to think of something else to do with Sand Man instead of that. Then at the end he explains that he killed Uncle Ben by an accident. This completely screws up the entire origin in my opinion. It should've just been the robber who stole the money. Nobody else! 2) I think the symbiote/Venom story could've been done without breaking up MJ and Peter. They shouldn't have done that. Of course MJ and Peter would've been married if it weren't for the Studio, Avi Arad, and that female producer who I can't think of. They forced the Venom/the Symbiote in along with Gwen Stacey who was a dumb blond instead of smart like in the comics. They shouldn't have been forced in. Especially since Raimi absolutely hates Venom. You shouldn't force a character that the director hates into the movie. Which is obviously why Venom was only in the movie for about 10-15 minutes. Venom. He is one of my favorite villains outside of GG, Doc Ock, and Kingpin (who unfortunately couldn't be used. I would've rather he have been forced into the movie instead of Venom/the symbiote and Gwen Stacey. Then we could've had Sand Man as a henchman for the Kingpin which would've been so much better). The symbiote/Venom needs at least 2 movies to really work. This movie is proof of that. I guess I can't blame Raimi that much since he didn't even want to do him. I blame the studio and the two producers who should've known better. I believe they should all lose their jobs because of what they did to Venom in this movie (the Studio and Avia Arad and the female producer). 3) Then there's Harry who suddenly who doesn't get enough screen time and attention as he should've. I did like that Harry teams up with Peter at the end. Anyway this movie would've been better without all the stuff that I've mentioned.
First Blood (1982)
This movie is pretty far from the basis of the book.
Let me say that I used to like this movie. And all the Rambo movies (except part 4 which I haven't seen). But then when I was on a vacation I ended looking in a bookstore and found the book. I didn't even realize there was a book. So I bought it and read it all the way through. Here's what I don't like about the movie. Teasle is too much of a jerk in the movie. They basically made him the bad guy of the movie. He was not the bad guy of the book. In the beginning of the book Rambo sneaks back into town and goes to the local diner to buy two hamburgers and a coke. Teasle lets him and drives him back out of town. In the end Rambo kills everybody close to Teasle. Then Teasle gets shot in the stomach by Rambo and suddenly feels sorry for Rambo. He wants to be there for him before he dies. And Rambo both die without feeling any hatred for each other. But in the movie Teasle would rather die, DIE, than to feel sorry for Rambo. They could've at least had him apologize at the end and beg for his life. But they didn't. I understand why they didn't make it exactly like the book but I would've been happier if Teasle wasn't the bad guy of the movie.
The Heartbreak Kid (2007)
This movie promotes adultery!
This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life! This stupid immoral jerk played by Ben Stiller meets a women! Then after only a month of knowing her he marries her. Pretty stupid! Nobody should do this! Then on his honey moon (which is in Mexico) he finds out she isn't his type just because she doesn't have a real job and volunteers somewhere! And he figures out that she really isn't his type! Well no Surprise! That's what he gets for marrying a women he's only known for a month! Then while on his honeymoon he meets another woman and spends time with her instead of the woman he married! And she doesn't even know that he's married! Of course his wife finds out about this other woman! But when the other woman finds out that he's married she refuses to have anything to do with him! Mean while his wife leaves him. He loses his passport. Then he ends up going back to live where his honeymoon is at and the movie ends with him meeting the other woman. I was alright with it until the scene right after where it turns out he's already married again. And the other woman doesn't know it. There was also a very disturbing scene where it shows a really old women naked and shows her boobs which are literally the size of watermelons! Then there's the scene where it shows his wife's vagina! If you believe in God and care about your soul do not see this movie! I literally felt like I'd sinned against God by watching it! It was that bad!
The Real Ghost Busters (1986)
I liked it till season 5
I'd give seasons 1-3 an 8/10. They were great. I grew up on them. The first season of Slimer and the real ghostbusters wasn't too bad. But at Season 5 it starts going downhill. Janine looks fine in seasons 3 and 4 when they change her. But the way she changed in season 5 and later was ridiculous. Her best look was in the first 3 seasons. I don't like the change that much though. And then there's slimer. Slimer wasn't really ever my favorite character. I liked him as the comic relief. But when the whole show starts focussing on him it was stupid. I also don't like the voices of the ghostbusters after season 3. Well, Winston was alright. But Peter's voice just doesn't sound right. Ray's is alright. But the stories later on were just dumb. If you're a fan of the movies then stick with Seasons 1-3.
