Road House (2024)
It's a no from me
As a devoted fan of the original "Roadhouse," I eagerly anticipated the remake featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Connor McGregor. However, what unfolded on screen was a dismal disappointment that left me questioning the integrity of Hollywood's creative decisions. Let's address the elephant in the room: the acting. Jake Gyllenhaal and Connor McGregor's performances were a painful reminder of why some celebrities should stick to their respective fields. Their portrayal of the lead characters lacked depth, nuance, and sincerity, making it impossible to invest emotionally in their journey. It's disheartening to witness talented actors reduced to caricatures of themselves, especially when their real-life personas are far from admirable. Speaking of real-life personas, it's hard to overlook the fact that both Gyllenhaal and McGregor have faced controversies and scandals that tarnish their reputations. It's a bitter pill to swallow when such individuals are cast in roles that require a certain level of heroism and moral integrity. It's not just bad acting; it's a betrayal of the audience's trust and a blatant disregard for ethical considerations. The lack of development for female characters further compounds the film's shortcomings. In an era where representation and inclusivity are rightfully championed, the decision to sideline or stereotype women is unforgivable. The female characters in the remake of "Roadhouse" are mere props, devoid of agency, depth, or meaningful contribution to the narrative. It's a missed opportunity to explore complex relationships and perspectives, opting instead for tired tropes and stereotypes. One of the most glaring missteps of the remake is the decision to change the location, robbing the film of its original charm and authenticity. The rugged, gritty atmosphere of the roadside bar in the original "Roadhouse" was integral to its appeal, providing a backdrop that enriched the storyline and added layers of intrigue. In contrast, the sanitized, generic setting of the remake feels soulless and uninspired, failing to capture the essence of the original and leaving viewers longing for the authenticity that once defined the franchise. Ultimately, "Roadhouse Remake" is a tedious slog that fails to justify its existence. From its lackluster performances to its problematic casting choices and uninspired narrative decisions, it's a textbook example of everything that's wrong with Hollywood's obsession with remakes and reboots. Rather than honoring the legacy of the original, it cheapens it, leaving fans with a bitter aftertaste and a sense of betrayal. In conclusion, I regret to say that "Roadhouse Remake" is a forgettable blip on the cinematic landscape, destined to fade into obscurity alongside countless other failed reboots. Save yourself the disappointment and stick to the timeless classics. I, for one, am giving it a generous one out of ten stars, and even that feels like a stretch.
Palm Royale (2024)
Gorgeous
The outfits are worth watching the show. The costume designers did a stunning job. The characters are difficult to support but that's part of the fun. There are many mysteries that are interesting to watch unravel. It is a delectable sight to see. Shows now don't have the same style as they did in the 60's. This is truly an amazing show for Kristen Wiig. It is wonderful to see so many amazing and strong actresses share the screen. It truly is one of the better shows Apple TV has put out in a while. It is captivating. Seeing Maxine yearn to be accepted the viewer sees everything she desires and can understand how she might want to belong to such a glamorous society.
Glass Onion (2022)
Disappointed
The first half of the movie was tragically slow. There are no characters to root for and truly I was hoping one would get killed off sooner so I wouldn't have to listen to all the new money/conservative influencer jokes. I do believe it was greatly saved in the second half and had many good moments but the first one was a classic. This one fell short of being a good murder mystery and was more of a waiting game for the answers. The plot twist was great and lifted my rating from a 1 to a 4. There were a lot of good performances and strong actors but the personalities of these characters was unbearable. Daniel Craig and Janelle truly carried this movie. Kate Hudson had great comedy moments while Ed Norton was so good at being annoying it was torture to tolerate him.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Yuck
Anna and Vivian the two main characters are unlikeable. Vivian is a terrible journalist and it's embarrassing watching her kiss her subjects behind the whole show. It was interesting but could have been an actual documentary instead of a watered down soap.
Encanto (2021)
Good
Watched it and was honestly expecting more. The songs are incredible. I listen to them a lot but the movie overall was just lacking something extra magical.
Eternals (2021)
Not worth your time
I saw a preview when I visited Disney Hollywood Studios and was excited for the film. Overall I only enjoyed two charles. It felt so bad compared to all Marvel films. No humor and the storyline was poorly developed. Many great actors who were placed in a bad film.
