" All you had to do was to be happy"
18 July 2020
I.. I loved this. I'm biased towards sci-fi tv series, not because I'm a great fan, but because they are such ambitious projects and so hard to get right. You can tell whoever made this put all their passion into it, it's such a sight for sore eyes. Two things truly stand out: the cinematography and costumes.

Pause at anytime and it's impossible not to notice how each frame looks like an award winning photograph. But to me. the star of the show is the person who designed all these amazing dresses and suits. Think Iris van Herpen's runaway meets Spike Jonze's "Her". I'm not an expert by any means, but I hear 3D printed dresses take forever and are impossibly hard to make.

I haven't read the book, nor have I watched other adaptations, so I can't compare, but give this series a go, if only to feast your eyes and maybe you'll find that what it has to say is also worth your time.

When your buddy makes an amateur movie and you have to watch it
26 June 2020
I knew the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes were low, but it stars Rachel McAdams, Will Ferrell, Dan Stevens and Pierce Brosnan, how bad can it be? So I saw it just for the cast and it's even worse than I was prepared for. What they writers had in mind could have been a satire of Eurovision, but it comes across as a parody of a parody, where the result is borderline caricature-esque. It's on Netflix, so no extra money wasted, but only give it a go if you don't fancy anything else.

A Rare Gem

It felt almost like reading a book where you envision the characters so vividly, you can almost touch them. The chemistry the two leads have, their acting, the cinematography, are all so well blended together, so seamless, it's palpable. A melancholy trip worth taking, if only to remind the ones past teenage years how vulnerable and all-engulfing a young love is.

Would have rated it higher if Kerry Washington knew hot to act
18 March 2020
She has two expressions the whole time: puppy eyes OR smelling something rotten. Kudos to the teen who plays her daughter, she is far more nuanced!

BUT as much as I would have loved for the show to have cast someone else, it is well worth the watch and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a Big Little Lies type of mystery drama.

If director Paolo Sorrentino were a chef, this series would bring him his 3rd Michelin star.
13 January 2020
Because who else could do Vatican-Rockstar fusion and make it the best meal you ever had!? If you've seen his previous miniseries The Young Pope, you know you can't find one thing to nitpick about. It's flawless. So you gotta give it to the guy, to be this great and know it, but not be afraid to do it again cause you know you can do even better?? Mindblown. Mister Sorrentino, if you ever wanna remarry...

The outstanding music is something you might expect if you've seen The Young Pope but the cinematography is

A mediocre comedy special that feels like he cheated and has to make up for it to his wife.
30 December 2019
The only way I can justify why a great comedian like him would do this is if he tried to compensate for getting caught cheating by vouching that if wifey won't leave and take the kids, he'll write a whole special dedicated to her.

Not the best comedy material, but it makes for great ideas on how to avoid divorce.

Is it Perfect? No. But it's such a joy to watch !!

Warning: Spoilers
The series definitely has it's shortcomings, and yes, you don't need a narrator every episode, even less one that died episodes ago. Some decisions the main characters make it seem anticlimactic and even the dialogue sometimes appears off. BUT..

...the scenery is breathing. If you never visited Cornwall, this show will put it first on your wishlist of places to see in England. It features great music, creating great ambiance with each frame.

Couple that with tons of mouthwatering shots of food and it becomes one of the most delectable series to watch for a relaxing weekend. I found it paired extremely well with a glass of white wine.

Anyone can be a better president than Trump and anyone could have written a better script

There's a lot of wasted potential with this one, I feel like Amuroso's personality would fall anything but flat judging by the whole controversies surrounding her. However Britt Robertson's performance is, but to be honest the writers give her nothing to work with. It's almost as if your teenage wannabe writer persona won a terrible bet with Charlize Theron(producer). Netflix blew it with this one, so maybe just get the book, it can't be worse.

Mediocre, but has its good times
2 May 2017
I will say the film got me hooked on the first episodes, but it gets repetitive after that, so I often find myself fast forwarding through "deja-vu" scenes. I an however on my third season which should say something, but it's more like having a pleasant background noise that helps me get house stuff done and get a bit of entertainment while doing so. To be fair, the show does have its moments when the plot line follows some background story that doesn't get resolved in the same episode, but that's quite rare.

look away look away, two episodes and it's passe
16 April 2017
I will give the show props for having amazing cinematography, it's very much akin to a Wes Anderson with a gray filter. However, once you get through the first two episodes the story just repeats itself. I want to push through though just to see if the last one brings anything new. I gave the show a six since it's now at 8, but it should be around 7.
