The Dropout (2022)

I really enjoyed it !!!!
11 April 2022
Well cast. Well acted. I enjoyed it very much. (note: am I the only person who noticed Amanda Seyfried's head-bobbing? Her head bobbing drove me nuts. Was she imitating Eliz Holmes? Does she always bob her head when acting?) Still, it was great !!!

good mystery missing some details
5 February 2022
Good story, but my wife and I both must have missed some details. Some scenes, we both asked, how did we get here? Maybe we watched an edited version because it seemed like the main character proceeded to conduct her investigation with information that was never disclosed to the audience. Like, "how did she know that?" good acting and it DID keep our interest, but just too many unexplained things. We shouldn't have to guess how the story progressed from A to B to C to the ending. Lots of holes.

like watching paint dry?
28 January 2022
Many many times, the camera focuses on something, no action, we just wait and wait and wait. How could the director think this is entertainment? I am compelled to write this. "Killer Clowns from Outer Space" is more entertaining than this. I'm reminded of those who say "I don't write music to be commercial" then, what's the point? This movie is terrible.

Money Heist (2017–2021)

good but plot has progressive holes
13 January 2022
Good, I would recommend. Whenever I see movies/series like this, I want to be entertained. When something illogical happens, I often overlook it cuz the story is so entertaining. When the 2nd illogical thing happens, I still enjoy the story, but become a bit skeptical. Season 1 was great, but the accumulation of illogical things put a real damper on season 2.

If you were a woman and put in charge of handling a NATIONAL EMERGENCY, would you take time out to find a boyfriend?

If you had meticulously planned a robbery for a LONG time (min 5 months, but probably a year) would you look for romance in the middle of the heist?

If you (#1 investigator) discover the mastermind of the robbery, would you walk into his warehouse alone? Or would you call for backup?

Also, you stressed to your gang to have no personal relationships, yet 2 of the robbers are involved with hostages? And 2 other robbers have fallen in love AND you, the Professor, decided to get romantically involved with the #1 investigator? Wow

all criticisms aside, enjoyed the show, but I can't give it a 10.

very good with holes
10 December 2021
The main thing I want in a series like this is "Does it captivate me? Do I want to watch the next episode?" I guess my answer is "yes". I thought the first 7 episodes were very good. The ending was a disappointment cuz it was so unrealistic. There are SO many things in the last episode that NEVER would have happened in real life. Nevertheless, the plot was excellent and I enjoyed how the story played out. I would recommend it. I might add my frustration when the reporter found some good murder evidence and then? And then? Kissed his male companion? Totally unnecessary and had NOTHING to add to the story, so "why" put this in?

just ok
14 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was semi-good, not great. There were 4 main characters and not one of them was likeable. On one hand, you want justice for their family, OTOH, I often thought that none of them deserved justice. It was obvious that James was weird, yet the mom and daughter were captivated by him? Not realistic.

Emily Blunt was great

This movie is IMO better than the book. Emily Blunt does an outstanding job as the main character. I loved it!

good movie if you want to analyze it
6 December 2020
First of all, I gotta say that the night B4 we saw this, we watched Evil Roy Slade for 20 minutes, which kinda improved my willingness to watch this kind of movie. I did not read the book, but I found it fascinating trying to figure out what the director was trying to say. It made me think a lot, which I actually enjoyed. BUT the movie was very, very slow and we fast-forwarded thru many of the "driving in the snow" scenes. After reading the reviews, the movie makes sense and I will say that I enjoyed it more after reading the other reviews, BUT, a lot of people ain't gonna invest the time (in such a low movie) or won't have the inclination to analyze what the director was trying to do. I enjoyed it, but I understand if you didn't.

just ok, kinda disappointing
16 December 2019
My wife and I are big Stephen King fans, but this movie disappointed us. We never got scared, never felt suspense. We actually turned off the movie 15 minutes before the end, like "meh, who cares?" I might also mention our disappointment with the frequent, unnecessary F-bombs spoken by a bunch of supposedly 40 year olds.

sorry, no love for mother here

It kept my interest for a while. I don't understand the ending. I was so tired of watching it that I had no desire to understand the ending. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have watched the movie........ meh

lotta bad reviews here, but we liked it
20 November 2019
There's probably many reasons for all the negative reviews, such as: 1) not as good as the original 2) I paid to see this movie and 3) the father did some pretty illogical things. We, however, saw this movie on Netflix and had never seen the original. It starts slow and gradually builds to a pretty good climax. Yes, the father did some illogical things, but doesn't every scary film have some illogical things? Our judgement is really based on 1) did it keep our interest? and 2) did it provide some scary moments? In our opinion, yes on both. WE enjoyed it!! It was worth our time.

got a question
11 February 2014
I know this is not a current movie, so I may not get a response, but I'm wondering if a scene was cut out? At the very end of the movie, James Franco has a gun and he has his ring back on his finger. In the version I saw last nite, there was no explanation of "how" he got a gun or "how" he got his ring back. Was there a scene edited out on the version I viewed?

I liked the movie. It was not great, but it was a good watch. Robert DeNiro plays the same character that he has played in about 10 other movies. But, he plays it well.

Apparently, I have to write more lines. and more lines. and more lines.

I'll never forget Kevin Bacon after seeing this
25 August 2005
I'm not sure, but I don't think there is a bigger compliment that you can pay any actor but to say that his/her performance was bigger than the movie itself. It seemed to me that Kevin Bacon was not acting. That Kevin Bacon IS as mean and cruel as the character he portrayed. I cannot see Kevin in any movie without thinking of his performance in River Wild because I really think you're seeing the real deal. Because of that, Kevin was one of the most terrifying movie characters that I have ever experienced.

Seriously, in real life, Kevin Bacon may be a nice guy, may be a sweetheart, may do volunteer work, may go to church regularly, may be a good dad, may be a coach for his daughter's soccer team. I really don't know, but I tell you one thing, if I ever meet Kevin Bacon, I will tell him he gave an outstanding performance in this movie. And while I am in his company, I will NEVER turn my back on him. He just spooks me out and will always do so. what greater compliment is there? I thought this movie was extremely well cast. I know the ending is predictable, but the best thing about this movie is that it is believable. Anyone of us could have been stuck in that situation. Ever go up an elevator with a person who you feel uncomfortable with? If the elevator gets stuck... what do you do? This is basically the same as the movie. Most movies either have a totally unbelievable theme or something happens in the movie that is totally illogical. In this movie, however, every thing that happens is believable and could have happened to you.

still Bacon scares the hell out of me

Quinlan at her most beautiful
28 July 2005
This is not a great movie by any means, however Kathleen Quinlan is one of my all-time favorite actresses. In my opinion, Kathleen is more attractive in this movie than any other of her movies. So, if you think Kathleen Quinlan is sexy, and you just want to appreciate her for that, this is the movie for you. otherwise, skip it. the plot is OK. the acting is OK. remember this is a made-for-TV movie.

Kathleen Quinlan is the main character in this movie. Consequently, you get to see her beauty constantly.

I might qualify my above statement about Kathleen Quinlan. She had a small port in the movie "The Doors" where she was pretty spectacular also, but she was only in that movie briefly.

Captivating - for the wrong reason
5 May 2005
Opinions about this movie are gonna break down into two camps. Hard core Bob Dylan fans are in one camp. Then, there is everyone else.

I have watched this movie twice. I must admit, I am captivated by it. I cannot take my eyes off the movie. This movie is so unusual, I'll have to make a new category, like.... Worst Most Captivating Movie.

Why is it so captivating? I think because the famous Hollywood actors and actresses in this movie are so talented, and Bob Dylan is just so bad that the contrast between him and everyone else makes the whole film just shocking. Forget the fact that the plot is absolutely boring. Dylan walks from scene to scene as the lead actor looking like a 70 year old Marilyn Manson wearing a dorky cowboy hat.

I can see all those Dylan fans saying 'ah, the symbolism, the symbolism'. What a bunch of crap! This is just a situation where a famous musician decided to gather any of the Hollywood crowd who adore him to make a self serving, pointless movie.

Without a doubt, the most shocking scene is when Dylan (who must be about 5' 6" and 110 pounds) beats up Jeff Bridges (who must be about 6'2" and about 220 pounds) with one punch. Lots of symbolism there, huh? Somehow, I'm reminded of the Emporer's Clothes. Are all these famous Hollywood actors so enamored with Dylan that they could not see how bad this movie is? I'm embarrassed for all of them.

Yet, when it comes on again, I'll probably watch it!!!

Rose Red (2002)
i liked it
14 February 2002
The idea of a group of people spending some time in a haunted house has been done a million times. If anyone is looking for something 'new', this is not it. So, I can understand some viewer's negative opinions. Nevertheless, for me, the proof of the pudding is...'Did this mini series intrigue me?'

Yes, it did. I think the casting was excellent. The different people in the house really added to the plot, ESPECIALLY Emmery. Emmery was so weird, but you know, everyone has seen someone like Emmery. Those kind of people are out there. really weird, but just normal enough to successfully exist in our society.

The first night was pretty boring, but I really got hooked the second night.

Hey! this is TV, I don't expect 'Gone With the Wind', I just want some good entertainment. I enjoyed it.
