Star Trek (2009)
5/10
I don't understand why everyone thinks it's so great.
12 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a huge fan of Star Trek, but I have seen most of the shows and all of the movies(I think). This movie was awful. Am I really the only one who didn't like it? Where were all the adults in the movie? Why were the ships run by a bunch of kids? Where were the defenses on Vulcan and earth? Couldn't a missile have cut the chain that the drill was hanging from? How did they transport onto the ship that was lightyears away? I understand that they had the equation to transport at warp speed, but that doesn't mean they can transport trillions of miles away. If that were possible they could just transport from planet to planet and wouldn't need the spaceships. Why was Kirk such a douche? Even as a little kid he was an asshole. Why did he want to wreck that car? Why was he driving a car from the 60s and listening to music from the 90s? I don't mind watching mindless action movies just for the sake of action, but this movie was so full of holes it was impossible to see past them.

And finally, why did they change the entire timeline of the series? This now has absolutely nothing to do with any previous movie or show. They would have been better off just creating an entirely different franchise.

It had a few laughs, but the acting was so terrible it was painful to watch.

Warning: Spoilers
I knew I was going to see a low budget movie, but I expected much more from an Alex Cox film. The acting by the two leading men was terrible, especially the white guy. The girl should have won an Oscar compared to those two. This movie was filled with what I guess would be inside jokes for film industry people and a few other jokes that I actually understood and made me laugh out loud, which is rare. Without these laugh-out-loud moments I would have given this film 2/10. What happened to the Alex Cox who made all the 80s classics?

SPOILER:

There were a couple of questions I had after the movie was over. Why did the Mexican guy go to the other guy's house at the beginning? What did his daughter say he got 100 people fired from his last job? Why was she breaking her own stuff when she was mad at him? I guess I should have gone to the Q&A after the movie, but I didn't want to get up at 10am.

Very good movie. I was pleasantly surprised.
16 June 2007
I didn't plan to see this film. I got an email from a friend who was going to see it at a film festival in Ludwigshafen, so I tagged along. I had no idea what it was going to be about and expected the worst. It was actually quite good. I don't know German well enough to tell if they are saying their lines correctly, but there were subtitles which helped me out a lot. The mom spoke very fast and I probably wouldn't have caught a lot of the dialogue otherwise. Besides the speech the acting was very good, although the characters could have smiled a bit more; I think there were a few scenes that this was possible. The daughter was very cute and they teased too much with showing her in underwear, but never anything more. Schade. I wasn't too thrilled with the ending. I don't know why the mom would encourage her daughter like that. Despite a few problems with and with a few camera angles(More Long shots to establish the scene please), I really liked this movie, especially in comparison to a lot of other low budget German films. I hope this gets a wide release. I could see it doing well in the US as well.

Basically just an updated "Risky Business"
18 March 2004
I've never bothered to comment, but I read the last persons comments and completely disagree. This was a very good movie. It's basically just Risky Business, but with porn stars, and no Balki Bartocamus. Balki needs to be in more movies. Someone should make a movie with Balki and Alf, and maybe that girl from small wonder. Most of the monkies that watch movies in theaters will laugh at just about anything, but I found myself laughing along with them once or twice. The only complaint I have is that Elisha Cuthbert didn't show her boobies. She's playing a pornstar for f**ksakes, show some nipple! Come to think of it, I don't think there was any nudity in this movie. That last scene should have had her doing some Bukkake. Definately worth seeing. 8/10.
