Short enough to binge and worth it
16 October 2022
Maybe not as good as the really good UK series, but it is up there with some of the good ones and short enough to spend the time in one sitting binge watching it.

The only name actor I recognised is Janet Montgomery and she does a great job as usual, most of the other actors also dod did their job well. It was a tad predictable in places, but with some really good twists keeps you guessing as the story unfolds.

Flashbaks give the story a more depth and help explain some of the less understandable part of why things happened the way they did.

My only gripe was that the lack of police involvement, this made the whole thing a bit unbelieveable.

Still gets a 7/10 for me although I dont think I would watch it a second time round.

Brilliant
18 February 2022
Being a non German speaker I had to rely on subtitles to understand what was being said, but I didn't need to understand German to see what was going on.

What happened in this movie is not new or unique in my opinion, in every society no matter how badly they are run there are compassionate people who will put their lives on the line to do the right thing.

We hear stories about this throughout history and I hope that if it came to the crunch I would be one of them, I think most people would hope the same.

Brilliant movie and great acting by all involved, it really grabs you from start to finish and does not let you go, I have seen this movie 3 times now and it never gets old.

Goosebumps and tears each time I have watched it.

At least a 9/10 for me, very well deserving of an Oscar.

Brilliant and funny on so many levels
23 January 2022
This is probably not a show that everyone would like and based on the 1/10 scores some obviously tuned into the wrong channel or gave up on the first episode.

Having watched all 3 series 3 times now and working my way through it for the 4th time, I think it is brilliant and at times laugh out loud funny, at other times just funny. Both my other half and I always watch this together and we have basically binge watched it each time.

Mackenzie Crook has shown that he is a brilliant writer and a very good actor, Toby Jones though, is the stand out character and his subtle, brilliantly delivered lines are seriously funny and at times completely unexpected.

The whole show basically revolves around Andy and Lance, but all of the bit characters add to the shows brilliance.

The Simon and Garfunkel characters really add to the show, they make superb villains.

All of the characters add something and altogether make for a brilliant low key subtly funny show that can be watched more than once.

Another of those shows that could easily be dropped after the first episode, but you would be missing out on so much if you did.

An easy 9/10, so close to a 10/10.

Excellent Binge Worthy Entertainment
1 January 2022
I will be honest, with names like James Nesbitt, Sarah Parish, Eddie Izzard and Cush Jumbo in the cast this was always going to be a show that I would be watching from start to finish.

The first episodes were a bit messy, but after that it had me hooked and I binged it in one sitting.

Some would say it was convoluted and they would be right, it has lots of twists and a few red herrings, but you have to persevere with shows like this if you want to be entertained.

The one star reviewers who didn't even get through the first episode deserve to miss out, if you have the attention span of a gnat, you deserve to miss out. Go and watch a show with lots of explosions.

This is not what I would call a brilliant show, but it has a lot of twists and they keep coming right to the very end and I mean that literally.

If you think you should give up after the first episode or during the first episode, don't this is worth the 7+ hours required to watch it.

Not sure I would watch it a second time, but it is likely if given enough time between viewings.

Easy 7/10 for me.

Pride and Prejudice
15 November 2021
I am a HUGE fan of the 1985 version of Pride and Prejudice. So I went into this with a bit of trepidation.

Look past the diversity of colours when it comes to the actors and ignore them and you have a show that very well done. We should all look past the colour of skin anyway, the world would be a better place if everyone did, so there is a lesson in the casting of this show right there.

Putting all that aside the show is very well done, so much so that I binge watched it in one setting, not once but twice. The third time I took a more leisurely pace with my other half.

Pride and Prejudice it is not, but it is close enough that I will be watching it many more times in the future and look forward to another season.

An easy 8/10 and well worth multiple viewings.

A Big Surprise
9 October 2021
I went into this one without even bothering to read the reviews and it blew me away.

Extremely well done, the acting from all involved was top notch, especially Tim Blake Nelson, who really showed he is a quality actor.

There is nothing over the top involved the story is just a story with the "good guys" coming out on top against the odds. Except who really knows who the good guys are.

Definitely a movie that could be watched more than once. It loses 2 stars for me due to the flashbacks, those were not really required and made the movie a bit confusing.

8/10 and highly recommended.

Giving it a chance
6 October 2021
I only watched the first episode of this because I am a Natalie Zea fan and I am prepared to give most new shows a chance before I condemn them. Some have turned out pretty well after a very seedy starts, Outlander being one in recent memory.

Other reviewers have talked about the terrible bad dialogue and really bad CGI, I tend to agree on both counts, this could have been a lot better based on a really great premise.

Having watched Still prepared to give this a go, it gets a 5/10 from me for now, that might sink depending on future episodes. It is definitely better than a 1 or a 2.

Update After watching 4 episodes now, it is getting much better, moved my rating up to a 6/10 now. Acting is much better and the story is starting to get really interesting.

Four and a half hours
11 September 2021
To watch this show in binge fashion it will take just short of four and a half hours, but it is well worth it. No use giving up after 10 minutes as most of the reviewers have done and writing a bad review just because you didn't like one or other of the actors.

The story line is familiar with other shows, but that doesn't matter, it is still good entertainment. It may be a bit PC, but who cares it is still entertaining.

Having seen many of Paul Abbott's shows this might not be up with the best of them like Shameless and No Offense, which are brilliant, but it compares quite well.

Definitely worth a 7.5-8/10 and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for something interesting to watch.

Laugh Out Loud Funny with some serious heart
21 August 2021
This is one of those shows that will have you laughing out loud with tears running down you cheeks one minute and then feeling like WOW the next. Absolutely brilliant.

When season 2 started I went back and rewatched season one and loved it just as much the second time around as the first. 5 episodes into season 2 and WOW, better than the first.

He's here, he's there, he's every-f%#$^-where, ROY KENT.

Entertaining Enough
24 July 2021
If you go in expecting a lot, you are going to be disappointed, go in hoping to be entertained and you will be, I am not a huge fan of everything Vampire, but this one was OK.

If you are a parent you will almost always have protective instincts for your offspring and try to protect them and this made sense here.

OK storyline and personally a pretty good ending, some have run down parts of the movie and I agree some of it was a bit cliched with some of the dialogue being a bit off, but overall it was a pretty good movie. Not brilliant, but definitely solid.

Worth a watch if you like this sort of thing.

Kate Beckinsale
23 July 2021
If you liked her in Underworld you will like her it Jolt, simple as that. If you didn't, avoid this, you won't like it.

She basically is just the same in this as in all her Underworld movies and I loved her in all of those. There is not much of a story and it really is a bit farcical, but I was entertained and enjoyed it just for Kate. The addition of Stanley Tucci is a real bonus, he never disappoints. Jai Courtney is OK, but not being a big fan of his, I never really rate him in a movie, this is no exception. Gotta love Bobby Cannavale, he is always fun.

So the end result is, if you like Kate Beckinsale, you will like this, forget all the negative reviews, just enjoy a bit of nonsensical fun.

5.5/10 for me, rated it a 6 as there is no half way.

Quite a believable thriller
4 July 2021
Initially I wasn't going to bother with this, but at a loose end I decided to give it a go. A good surprise, much better than I thought it would be and not over the top and unbelievably stupid like a lot of thrillers of this type end up.

Megan Fox was very believable as was most of the supporting cast.

Very enjoyable.

As perfect as you can get
31 May 2021
After episode 6, I gave this a 9/10 and had a wait a very long 7 days to watch episode 7. Well the wait was worth it, the last episode gave this the oomph to kick it up to 10/10, brilliant.

I have only ever rated 2 tv shows 10/10, Pride and Prejudice (1995) and now this, Mare of Easttown, both very short shows and both very different, but both just suck you in and never let you go.

If you don't like Kate Winslet for some unfathomable reason, then you MAY not like this show, but if you have even an inkling of a liking at all for her you will absolutely love this show, she is the show and does she perform, WOW.

Should you be lucky enough to be able to binge this one, good luck to you, you are about to lose 7+ hours and get sucked into a show that will just not let you go.

Loved it.......

Slow, Horrifying and Not for the Faint Hearted
7 February 2021
This movie took me two goes to watch, you need to be in the right mood to watch it, but for some, not all, it will be worth it in the end. I am not religious in any way and in my view religion is a Cult of sorts. I can see how people can be sucked into Cults and this movie is all about being sucked in and the consequences.

Once you have been sucked in it can often be too late to get out once you realise and the consequences can be dire.

This movie also really highlights the notion of beware of who you trust. Your friends are not always your friends unless you know them very very well.

Everyone who is contemplating joining a cult should watch this movie.

I initially gave this movie a 6, but after some consideration a 7 is more appropriate.

Took Me Two Goes
26 January 2021
This show took me two goes to watch it, eight years apart. The first time I tried to watch it I did not even get through the first episode before I gave up. Eight years later I binge watched the entire 3 seasons in one day.

Very good show and well worth watching if you get the chance.

Easy Binge Watch
17 January 2021
I had a feeling before even starting this one that I was going to like it a lot. Well I did, enough to watch all 8 episodes straight though with only small break.

Some will say it is predictable, and in some ways it could easily be seen that way, but it has enough red herrings to make it hard to work out. Plenty of suspects like any good whodunnit.

A good watch and the subtitles should not be a problem if you are not a French speaker.

If you are not hooked by the end of the first episode this is not a show for you.

8/10.

Seriously
5 January 2021
I am quite sure in light of all the hyper over the top reviews of this movie that my review will get voted down to the enth, but did I miss something and watch a different movie?

Boring it the only word I could use to describe this movie. I am a BIG fan of anything Frances McDormand and she was my main reason for watching this all the way through.

Maybe I had an off day, but sorry, this was seriously boring from start to finish.

it gets a 5/10 from me just because Frances McDormand is in it.

A Nice Surprise
3 January 2021
It is always nice to see a movie that uplifts the spirit and this one does just that. All of the emotions are experienced as this movie unfolds and there are a few surprises thrown in.

Great acting from all involved. It might seem a bit cliched to some cynics, but this one hits the right notes for me.

Highly recommended and worth multiple viewings.

Exceeded Expectations
30 December 2020
This one was a surprise, although a Vince Vaugh fan I did not even know he was in this until around the 9 minute mark. I didn't read the reviews or watch any trailers, so I went in blind. Good surprise and happily 100 minutes of entertainment.

There are lots of clichés and the movie is somewhat predictable, but there are very few that aren't any more, it has basically all been done to death.

If you like Vince Vaugh you will not be disappointed, he delivers some good laughs and there is lots of gore for the gore fans.

Ignore the really low reviews, half of them probably did not even watch the movie. This is a solid 6.5/10.

I will be watching it again soon.

As Good Now as it was Then
30 December 2020
I saw this movie not long after it came out on VHS when I was living in a small country town. I wasn't quite as big a Sandra Bullock fan as I am now, but it is still a movie I remember well.

The cast of actors is like a whos who of great actors from another time, Jack Warden, Peter Boyle, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher. All names I liked to watch and still do. 3 out of the 4 have since passed.

This movie showed the world who Sandra Bullock is, as if we didn't already know after Speed the year before.

Some people probably find this movie a bit sappy, but for me it is a pick me up movie that I watch it regularly, along with a handful of other movies that just make the world a better place for a moment.

An easy 8/10, and a must watch at least once.

An Unpolished Gem
29 December 2020
This is one of those movies you are going to either love or hate. Most of todays movie "lovers" will have judged it good or bad within the first 10-15 minutes and will have either turned it off or continued.

The movie for me really gets going at around the 19 minutes mark, after that is just goes from from good to better and better.

The chemistry between Ben Kingsley and Téa Leoni is brilliant, they just fit so well together. Ben Kingsley's deadpan delivery of some really funny lines is superb.

Add in such great actors and Bill Pullman and Luke Wilson and you have what I think is a brilliant movie.

Most would probably not regard this as a Rom Com, but for me it is up there with the best and I have watched it from start to finish many times.

Easy 8/10 for me.

OMG Funny
27 December 2020
If you are like me and you are a Sam Rockwell, you will absolutely love this movie, I cannot believe it took me me 5 years to find this one, absolute gem.

Being a big fan of both Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell might help, but this movie is just downright funny, violent, but funny.

If you are looking for a light hearted rom com this is probably not for you, there is a bit of swearing and lots of violence, shooting and dead bad guys, but it really is super fun and just downright funny.

A great job by all involved. 9/10 for the laughs and being a feel good movie.

Definitely Worth Watching
22 December 2020
When I clicked on this movie to watch I had no idea who was in it or what it was about, something I rarely or never do. Was I in for a surprise. I did not even recognise Jennifer Garner for at least the first 5-10 minutes of the movie, and that surprised me, she is on my list of must watch actors if I see her name in a movie.

This is one of those movies that grabs you from the start and just holds onto you to the end. Edge of seat stuff that has you rooting for the hero from start to finish.

Very well done and a movie that I could easily watch a second and third time.

Highly recommended. 8/10 for me.

OK But Not Great
9 December 2020
I watched this without really knowing much about it, three things drew me to it, robots, Neal McDonough and the length. Normally in my reckoning movies over 90 minutes tend to be OK. This one met this condition, but it was a bit too long and could have easily been 20-30 minutes shorter and lose none of the story line. The acting wasn't brillant, but the actors did a good job. The CGI was good and didn't make the movie look cheap. Parts of the movie were a bit repetitive and the storyline has been done to death, but if you have a few hours to kill you could do worse than watch this.

5.5/10 would be my honest rating, it would score higher if it was a bit shorter.

Rubbish
15 November 2020
This just had to have been made on a very low budget, the hand held camera with one camera from start to finish tells you that. It could easily have been done with one long take.

I read the reviews before attempting to watch this and some seemed genuine enough, but please, this was crap from start to finish. Way too much super close camera work wrecked it for a start, who wants to see the pores of someones face when they are talking on the phone?

As you get into the movie it is easy to see why the main subject is single.

Give this a miss, not worth wasting 90 minutes of your time. 2 stars is being generous.
