This Is the End (2013)
An absolutely crazy over the top movie
This is a crazy movie and if you like Seth Rogen movies you will most likely enjoy it. Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robertson, Danny McBride and many others portray hightened versions of themselves in this moviea about a party at James Franco's house where the apocalypse occurs and they all are forced to fend for themselves at James Franco's house. There are many gruesome deaths in this movie which may turn people off it as well as grotesque dark humour particularly the cannibal scene near the end. Most of the movie is the cast hanging out with each other talking about what's happening around them as well as arguing with each other. Danny McBride is a highlight portaying himself as a dick but who knows what he's like in real life.
Sex Tape (2014)
Horribly done
What could have been a fun movie just isn't. Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz play a couple who have lost their spark after 2 kids and several years of marriage. They decide to spice it up by making a sex tape. The problem is it gets put on the cloud and in a, makes absolutely no sense, twist many people get access to it as Jason Segal has given away old iPads to friends, and family and all of them are connected to his network. The rest of the movie is them tracking down these iPads and stopping it from going on a Porn site. The laughs are not plentiful in this movie and the story makes no sense. Why would you give old iPads away without wiping them? Even when Jason Segal finds out youcan remotely wipe the iPads, the story is still very unrealistic.
FBoy Island (2021)
Somewhat entertaining show
This is a show about finding love and getting the money. I didn't watch the first 2 seasons so I can only review the 3rd season. Essentiall there are 3 women on the show looking for love and they have their pick of 24 guys. Half of the guys are considered nice guys and the other half are Fboys. The rule is that if the women choose a nice guy for their final pick they split S$100,000 with them but if they pick an F boy. The F boy has the opportunity to keep the money for themselves and not split it. So essentially if the women can't find someone they at least can set themselves up to get some money. Each week the women go on dates with guys to see if there is a connection as well as talk to guys casually throughout the day. At the end of each episode each women choose 2 guys to be up for elimination and then choose one of them to eliminate after they plead their case. The guy then says if they are an F boy or a nice guy. The goal is to get rid of the F boys. Some of the F boys put on an act to get the women to like them and there was at least one of them who openly admitted that he had no interest in the women. This season also had a game changing twist which i'm assuming was not done in seasons 1 and 2. If you want mindless entertainment watch this show.
Holmes & Watson (2018)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
How this movie even got made is beyond me. How did Will Ferrel and John C Reilly not see how bad this movie was? Will Ferrel and John C Reilly portray Holmes and Watson as idiots who are detectives and have to find Moriarty who has been committing crimes across England. This brings them into situations that are just unfunny and don't make alot of sense. Ralph Fiennes who portrays Moriarty is hardly in it and thank goodness for that because he's a good actor. Overall this movie is not very funny and most jokes are just too dumb to laugh. This is an insult to viewers who spent money to see this movie. I just can't believe how bad it was.
The Menu (2022)
Odd entertaining movie
I knew there were some shocks in this movie and something with the food cooked in the movie. I was generally surprised by some of the twists and was entertained throughout. I guess the movie is a satire about the silliness of gourmet dining and how critiques and the business side of the restaurant business ruin the joy of cooking. The story is about a couple who get on a boat to a private island to eat at a restaurant by this renowned chef played by Ralph Fiennes. There are other people there including a couple who dines their regularly, business man, a movie star and his publicist on the decline, and a food critic. Throughout the movie there is a focus on the couple, where the man sseems enamored by the chef, while his date is a last minute addition to the evening. The movie goes through each course of the dinner and there is a story behind each meal. These get increasingly odd and shocking such as laser printing images on tortillas that are of relevance to the person and may make them look bad, and a chef killing himself. Once this occurs the movie becomes more of a thriller as the guests start to figure out they are in danger. The way the movie ends is odd but interesting and I got what it meant.
Claim to Fame (2022)
Fun show if you know alot about celebrities
This show has been solid for the first 2 seasons. The second season added more intrigue by not having the contestants reveal who they are related too, unlike the first season. The show features people who are related in some way to a famous person. Each week there is a challenge that has something to do with the famous relatives and whoever wins it, usually gets immunity and the chance to see an additional clue about another contestant of their choice. The two people who did the worst or is chosen by the person who wins are up for eliminiation by being the guesser. The other contestantants choose who is the guesser. If the guesser is right then the person revealed goes home but if the guesser is wrong then they go home. It is fun learninga bout the contestants through clues and seeing them try to guess who the famous relative is. Some, at least in the second season, were complete surprises. You will enjoy this show more if you know alot about pop culture.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
Fantastic holiday classic
This movie is still as funny today as it was before. Steve Martin portrays Neal who is a businessman trying to get home for Thanksgiving from a business trip to New York. Along the way he meets Dell who he teams up with to find a way home after their flight gets diverted due to bad weather. Basically everything that could go wrong, goes wrong as they try to find a way home. There are some very funny scenes in this movie particularly Steve Martin's interaction with a customer service rep and when they drive in a car that is severly damaged. This movie has alot of heart to it and will probably have you crying towards the end of the film.
Joy Ride (2001)
Entertaining movie
This movie still holds up over 20 years later. Paul Walker portrays Lewis who decides last minute to buy a car with his plane ticket and drive across the country to pick up a girl to drive home with from college. Along the way he picks up his brother who was just released from prison. Steve Zahn portrys the brother in a funny matter. They decide to get a CB radio and pull a prank on a truck driver, which ends up with a person in the motel there staying at getting badly injured. The truck driver holds a major grudge and taunts them through the CB radio as well as somethow knowing where they are with creepy phone calls. There is a twist in the end that would have made for a good sequel but we never got that.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (2023)
A Fun Experience for Swifties
With the Eras Tour being the hot ticket that it is, this is an opportunity for all those who didn't get to see it live.. Even if you saw it live, most likely die hard fans will go to this movie. Taylor Swift knows how to put on a hell of a show and you can definitely see it on the screen. Having people sing and dance during the film definitely enhances the experience. Like any concert there will be parts that people may not love but the show as a whole was very entertaining. The filming is done very well and you feel like you are there. This film is mainly for Taylor Swift fans but i'm sure people will appreciate her showmanship as a performer.
Run Fatboy Run (2007)
I enjoyed it
This is a funny movie. Simon Pegg portrays Dennis whose life is in shambles after he panics on his wedding day to Libby and runs away. 5 years later he's working a dead end job and co parents his son with his ex. When he finds out she is dating an American businessman he becomes jealous and tries to find out what is so good about him. He finds out he is running a marathon and decides to do it as well to show Libby he can commit to something. This is where most of the laughs come from as he trains with the help of his cousin (who puts a bet on him with some very not nice people) and his landlord. Simon Pegg is very good in it as is Thandie Newton has the ex and Hank Azaria plays a good foe. It's a feel good kind of movie and you will find it watchable. One gross out scene however was unnecessary.
