Forced laughter - dire movie
26 March 2022
Went with open mind and was disappointed. Catherine Tate has dropped in my ratings in this dire waste of a movie. Forced toilet humour, weak story, abortionate acting all adds up to a pointless 95 minutes. Avoid.

Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish
21 March 2022
A most tedious pointless waste of film ever. I went to see it on a Saturday afternoon and I was the only one in the screening. According to the manager it opened the previous day and no-one went in on either of the three screenings. It couldn't be that bad could it? - It was worse and I quit after 50 minutes. Nothing happened - just mindless yap and smoking. Avoid at all costs.

Boringly Boring
19 September 2020
Saw it 19 Sept expecting it to be a gritty or surreal drama that is atypical of Javier Bardem - it was neither. From the start it was incoherent mumbling with flashbacks where the main character was speaking in Spanish (no subtitles) in unnamed countries. Elle Fanning tried to inject a little bit of life into the movie but it slid into outright boredom with a story that could've been told in 5 minutes.

It took half the film to work out where it was set even especially with the camerawork focusing too close to Bardem's face thus filling the entire screen.

If you want an expensive sleep this is for you but otherwise give it a miss

Insane satire
12 October 2019
At first I wasn't sure if this was a serious movie or a comedy but some subtle dialogue puts it in the satirical category and some very silly action with this 'terrorist group' for the black people doing everything that won't involve violence but gets manipulated by the FBI who are akin to Monty Python make it a rather enjoyable piece of insanity. See it with an open mind. Anna Kendrick is worth an extra star alone

A long yawn for adults
10 April 2019
Had no idea what to expect but went in expecting a 'coming of age' type movie but what I got was a slow almost uneventful portrayal of a clearly troubled young girl and a school of 'couldn't care less' pupils. It made me feel sorry for teenagers of today as they are totally absorbed by their cellphones and the attitude of Kayla the teenager the movie is about towards her father is shocking. Several people around me fell asleep during this and some walked out. Kids may find this brilliant but adults will be bored silly

Utter bore
2 February 2018
Girlfriend said this will be great - I watched half an hour of it and I was dozing. Guy next to me was either purring or snoring with eyes shut. Tedious main character played by Daniel Day Lewis was so irritating that I'd've clouted him if he spoke to me like he spoke to the women in the film. All in all nothing really happens in the entire film. Daft thing is it is such crap that it'll probably win an Oscar.

Made little or no sense
15 May 2017
With high expectations I saw this as soon as it was released but I came out disappointed that a great opportunity to advance the 'Alien' worldscape was lost by plot and sense errors. Yes the crew are on a long voyage to a potential colony world but to veer off course to investigate a mysterious signal then land on it with no advance scanning to see if any potential threats existed before setting out to explore it made no common sense. How many potential colonists set foot on an alien and light up a cigar, wear no protective masks and wander about willy nilly? One even wanders off to have a cigarette on his own. The actors tried to make the best of a weak script and very little is explained as to why, how or when the mysterious signal was sent. The best part of this oh so predictable movie is the visual effects especially when arriving at the mysterious world and it's wild weather, but wooden characters deplete what could've been a classic

Tedious predictable boring film
1 April 2017
Went to see it with high expectations and wished I hadn't bothered. The film was slow and dull with 1 dimensional characters and rubbish story that could've been an old Twilight Zone episode of the sixties lasting 30 mins. The so called horror gory bit near the end wasn't unexpected. Unoriginal. Guy next to me fell asleep and several walked out. Wish I had.

Dull drawn out twaddle
6 January 2016
Went in with high expectations and ended up almost dozing at the slow pace of this movie. Few highlights and drab backgrounds will not attract me to visit Copenhagen. Typical Oscar type movie, well acted by Redmayne and Vikander just a too slow movie pace. Redmaynes character didn't develop for me at all and I couldn't see it improving if I'd stayed longer so 65 mins into it I followed several others who had left early and noticed one guy fast asleep. The core subject as stated in the trailers and posters is Redmayne's exploration of the femininity side of humanity. All well and good in a psychiatrists consultation but for a movie no. Had this been made for TV it could better be serialised. This is just my opinion but I was bored by it however most folk will watch it and rate it for it's acting merit - I rate for watchability.

Tedious bore with no story
30 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Overall a boring film in which nothing really happens - I feel Scarlett must've just done this for a few spare quid as she is barely recognisable compared to the magic she puts into Captain America. Picture it paints of Scotland makes me wish they do vote yes for independence to get rid of such depressing places. As for the music? Enough to send an insomniac to sleep. The story - what there is of it - offers no explanations or outcomes of the victims or what she is doing what she is doing and the dialogue almost non existent. There were only 15 people in the screening on a Saturday night when I watched this - only five were left at the end I wish I hadn't been one of them

Waste of $70 Million
28 March 2014
This is a sad rendition of a classic tale baring no resemblance to the mythical person. The film reads CGI in bold letters on every action scene. No mirth in any character (so atypical of this sort of movie) and little or no depth in the characters either. Set in 1200BC yet the women all have lipstick on and manicured nails and clear complexions and the men so neatly bearded with good skin with a few tell tale scars inc. a square G shape on Hercules and his brother's back but where the movie fall down is the storyline leaps leading to a confusing mishmash of set pieces that resembles a badly put together jigsaw. With a decent director (sorry Mr Harlin) this could've actually worked had it not been called Hercules.
