Napoleon (2023)
Based loosely on.
As a lifelong Napoleonic fan I was so pleased to see this being made. However, I'll do a review as a movie fan. The acting is fantastic, but that is to be expected with such a great cast. It moves along at a good pace and there is plenty of action sequences. There are typical Ridley Scott touches in the brutality of the battle scenes, which I found added to the overall sense of chaos and panic. At the heart of this movie is a love story which is overplayed in my opinion. There was much more to Napoleon than his 'puppy eyed' affection for Josephine. It's worth a watch even at the near 3 hours running time. Now for the historical accuracy. Chronologically it follows the historical path but there are 'artistic' liberties taken in Napoleons participation in Battles. This was a man who delegated and planned and did not lead Cavalry charges. This was a very Jarring addition.
Marriage (2022)
Pointless
Doesn't say anything and doesn't mean anything. I've read here people saying, "If you don't like this you don't appreciate good acting". A good actor needs something to work with or at least a framework to hang a performance on. This has none of that. The material is boring with no real characterisations. Don't waste your time on this, you will not be entertained.
Sam (2017)
Watch until the end.
Basically - stick with it until the end. The first fifteen minutes seem awkward and rushed. We are given the idea that 'Sam' is a horrible person. Then Sam gets his come-uppance and becomes 'Samantha'. This is when the movie gets going and is all the better for it. There are no gratuitous nude shots to prove 'Sam' has lost some bits and gained others. Acting wise Natalie Knepp is excellent in the role and the character of 'Doc' gets better as the film progresses. Natalie Knepp is funny and endearing as the 'Dude' in a womans body. When she blossoms in to the beautiful woman we expect, she still carries a mischevious air of the man still lurking inside. This is a much more modern take on movies such as 'Switch'. The idea of gender inequality is tackled, workplace sexual predators and the reason why women often seem 'clued-in' while us guys are confused about life and relationships. I loved the ending and I will say no more than that. Give it a chance, I think you may be suprised.
Warcraft (2016)
Fast paced and maybe confusing for non players.
I absolutely loved this movie. Right that's the basic review. The movie was a brilliant way to introduce the beginning of the struggle for Azeroth. However I believe it may be a bit confusing for those who never played the game. We all know each back story and Lore for the characters so we don't need it spelling out but I think next time a bit more filler for those who are new to the franchise, as film-goers only, would be a great idea.
The movie is fast paced and fun. The races are portrayed with respect. The Orcs are huge behemoths and the humans weak but brave. Gul'Dan is menacing and larger than life. I would have liked to have seen more races in the movie but that's only my desire as a fan not a film-goer. I am waiting expectantly for news of a follow up. I hope the film grosses well all over and Duncan is invited back. All-in-all well worth the entrance fee.
