Oceans (2008)
10/10
Visually stunning, subtle, dreamy
5 February 2010
Absolutely stunning. Simply the most beautiful underwater imagery I've ever seen. It's hard to remain not too affected when talking about ecology. Here, the off screen speech is quite subtle, not too naive and not boring, because sparingly used, which leaves long lapse of dreamy sequences, without a word. Technically, it's easily one of the best documentary ever made. The camera work and photography are incredible, the montage is very effective, alternating slow and fast paced sequences. The score is not too obtrusive. There is a very striking scene, which reminds me the nautical funerals of Laetitia in "Les Aventuriers" by Robert Enrico, if you see what I'm referring to, you will easily notice it, and I assure this scene will stick to your mind for days... Visually stunning, subtle, very recommended.

Overrated - Totally Undeveloped
8 March 2006
There is too much good comments about this movie, it really don't deserve the 7.4/10.

  • The main plot and even the subplots are not developed.

  • The filming is quite bad.

-The photography of Venisia is missed. With a city like that, the atmosphere could have be more thick and gloomy, this is quite unexploited in this movie.

  • The ending is foreseeable 38 minutes before the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-We got the beginning of a cheap ghosts movie and the ending of an even cheaper slasher, and between the two: nothing.

Svankmajer is a god! Really funny animation, a wonderful critic against soccer and supporters. See it! You will laugh a lot

Jabberwocky (1971)
MARVELOUS!!

Jabberwocky is one of the apotheosis in the complexity of animation and amount of work. Very atmospheric with strange music and weird old toys from the east of Europa. See it again and again with the same pleasure.

Watch the dancing knife, i still ask myself how they do this...
