Guns & Gulaabs (2023– )

So borrriinnggg that it will put you to sleep.
19 August 2023
The law of averages have finally caught up to Raj & DK. The series is a total drag. Midway through the episodes you will start feeling what is happening as nothing seems to move ahead.

Drugs, murder, revenge, politics, romance school students falling in love of each other including teachers etc., you name it this series has it. Raj & DK have tried to make Sholay's dialogue "is story mein emotion hai, drama hai, tragedy hai" into reality but have failed miserably and that too royally.

The pace finally picks up in the last episode but they left it too late to have any impact.

There are few moments that will give you a chuckle but beyond them there's nothing positive to talk about the screenplay or dialogues.

Acting wise, the only saving grace is Rajkumar Rao and Gulshan Devaiah (its a shame the limited amount of screentime that he is given). There are so many good actors who have been wasted.

Its one thing to have multiple storylines running simultaneously and logically bring them to a conclusion but making it entertaining is an art in itself. Raj & DK's have made an attempt at it but fail to do so.

This could easily have been a 3 or 4 episode series with a tighter and more entertaining screenplay.

Not the best MI. An okay movie.
16 July 2023
With much fanfare we prebooked and went to see the movie in an IMAX theater. Great viewing experience.

From a story and screenplay perspective, this movie is nowhere close to the 1st MI or Rogue Nation. This movie is just one action sequence after another.

Thankfully theres no huge dependency on CGI.

Acting wise, MI movies are not known for spectacular acting performances. Neither good nor bad.

Enjoyable no doubt but it lacks the what next ascpect s compared to previous MI movies.

No wonder they were publicizing the action sequences before its release.

Maybe eveything will fall in place in part 2 and it will be much tighter.

Bhediya (2022)

A mast watch
25 November 2022
A full on entertainment package is what Bhediya is.

Acting, script, screenplay, special effects, music, cinematography, you name it and every department has done justice to its job.

The entire cast's acting is spot on. It is fair to say that there is no one individual who is the main lead. All characters have equal footage in the movie. Varun & Kriti have done more than a decent job but its Abhishek Banerjee, Deepak Dobriyal & Paalin Kabak who carry the film on their shoulders.

The film stays true to its character of being a mystery and a comedy. The comedy doesn't appear to have been forced but has been superbly woven into the situation.

The special effects team has done a commendable job and it does not appear to be amateurish like what we have seen in the trailer of an upcoming big budget movie.

Its good that the makers decided to go for a theatrical release and not on OTT. This movie needs to be enjoyed along with friends and family in theatres. There was no one person who wasn't laughing throughout the movie.

All on all a paisa vasool entertainment from Hindi movie industry after a long long time.

A definite watch.
11 November 2022
The moment the movie starts you know that you are in for a roller coaster ride. Slick editing, retro music, background score immediately engages the audience and the guessing game starts on who is the hunter and hunted. I would suggest that if you are going to watch in a group then raise a wager.

On the acting front it's a Rajkumar Rao show ably supported by the other actors most notably Huma Qureshi. Radhika Apte has very little to do but delivers with usual gusto.

Some chinks though in terms of too much background music, could have maintained more suspense etc. Could have shown more of Pune city and its vibrancy.

A few blink n miss cameos from actors who have played a couple in one move.

You will get the feeling of Johhny Gaddar and Andhadhun while watching this movie.

Seldom comes a movie with a story, screenplay, acting, direction etc. That's a perfect 10. Monica O My Darling just misses it's mark by a whisker.

All stars just for the effort
6 November 2022
India has a rich culture and hoardes of history associated with its Gods and Goddesses. Its heartening to see someone make the effort to bring it on celluloid (not that it hasnt been tried before) at this scale and canvas.

With its heart at the right place, what Brahmastra needed was also an equal amount of mind to be applied to the story.

Why couldn't they stay true to the story and concept?

The movie is too long with an unnecessary romantic track, song and dance sequences, car chases etc.

The whole movie goes down the drain (screenplay and story wise) when the lead pair reaches the Ashram. Thereafter it just goes through the motions and the audience is left knowing what to expect going forward.

The surprising part is Mr. Bachchan's acting and bartione. When one already has a deep voice, why is it required to further deepen it? Neither the story or character demands it. As for his performance, lets not get into that.

Ranbir, Alia and all others are ok. SRK feels jaded. What kind of dialoges are given to him?

Mouni Roy was the only artist who seemed to be interested in giving her best and it shows.

Assuming that the boc office numbers are true, hopefully the producers and director will come up with a tight and interesting storyline without succumbing to so called public demand.

All the public wants is a good story worth the value of our time and money spent in watching what you dish out.

An absolute bore.
6 November 2022
For the ones who have seen Forrest Gump, there is nothing new or exciting in this movie. And those who haven't seen the original, this movie will feel slow, dragging its feet and boring. It doesn't have anything interesting that cam hold the audiences attention.

Aamir Khan has repeated his wide eyed expressions from PK. There's nothing much to say about acting from others.

The events in India right from emergency to Kargil war is well woven, especially the SRK part. This was probably the only good thing about the movie.

Better watch Forrest Gump in hindi if required than watch Laal Singh Chaddha.

Skip it.

And we have liftoff thats falls immediately to the ground and crashes. Horrible is probably too polite to describe this movie, the acting the unnecessary romantic angle etc.

In a crime thriller why would one unnecessarily insert romance? Police are tracing a killer and handling the only evidence without gloves!!!

Even if one ignores the location changes between UK and India, there are so many holes in the story that you can use it as a strainer.

Except for Sargun Mehta, no one's acting is worth mentioning. A plot that could have been made interesting, looses it sheen as easily as Akshay Kumar's character gets a police job.

There are much better whodunits out there. Watch those instead.

Delhi Crime Season 2 is crime in itself!
28 August 2022
DC-S2 had lot of potential but simply fails to impress. A cast of brilliant actors laid low due to the story which fails to hold attention of the viewers. The story is based in 2013 but smartphones are shown in hands of almost every Delhite streaming news channels. Data wasn't cheap then.

And what's with Shefali Shah's character communicating with everyone primarily in English. Rasika Duggal is wasted in this season. The only work she has is to arrive late and potray a middle class working woman's harrowing work life balance situation.

Spread with enough loopholes, DC-S2 isn't worth spending time. Good that it's just 5 episodes.

Nothing out of the ordinary
31 July 2022
There was a lot going for the movie or at least it seemed; an impressive supporting cast, a unique plot, a star kid attempting to break the mould, an intesrting trailer. Alas, everything fell flat like a open soda bottle.

Given the plot, there were any areas that could have been explored. The Bihari-Punjabi- NE equation, conflicts, gangster-mule attraction etc. Were just covered fleetingly.

After the initial 15 mins, the story just drags on.

On the acting front, except for Deepak Dobriyal & Jaswant Singh, all artists seemed uninterested.

Jahnvi Kapoor tries but she still has a very very long way to go acting wise to pull off a story completely on her shoulders.

This movie needed either Alia Bhat or Kangana in the lead to lend it more legitimacy.

Completely boring.

Simply Awesome
17 June 2022
Everyone and anyone who follows cricket knows how the Indian test team performed and pulled the rug out of the Australians feet, after being one down and going on to win an unforgettable series.

There were a lot of things said before the test series started and the chatter increased after the first test. The hostility from the Australians was there for everyone to see.

The beauty of the docu-series is that it doesn't focus on that at all. It brings out the passion and the grit and the determination in which Indian team played and came out as winners.

The maker of the documentary have to be credited for staying away from the temptation of jingoism and keeping it realistic and true to the character of how our team played.

Modern Love Mumbai (2022– )

Made with passion but more love was required.
16 May 2022
All stores in this series start with good subject but slowly looses the plot. Except for the peppy and hilarious Mumbai Dragon & a bold but realistic My Beautiful Wrinkles, there's nothing much going on in the rest of the stories.

Vishal Bhardwaj does an awesome job with the age old subject the relationship between a mother her son and the son's partner.

Alankrita Shrivastava also beautifully handles the topic of love and romance and the expectations around it especially when there is a big age gap between the participating couple.

All actors have tried to give their best but its the writing and the overall treatment that a let down.

I would say its an honest attempt to show something fresh but still lacks the emotional punch.

Nothing out of the ordinary. An okay okay series
24 April 2022
An extremely predictable series with nothing great to say about except for the acting prowess of Sakshi Tanwar and Anant Sharma. If you do start watching dont expect an edge of the seat thriller. The writers have tried intertwining side plots in the main story but they simply falls flat. The only thing that works is the performances from everyone. The story is riddled with so many holes that it will give the Mumbai roads a run for their money.

There is a Season 2 obviously considering how the last episode ended.

You wont miss anything if you decide to give this series a miss.

Honest attempt but lacks salt and punch.
1 April 2022
Credit to the late Mr. Rishi Kapoor in giving an all out effortless performance. In all the scenes that he is in, he takes it to a higher level. It would have been very difficult for Mr. Paresh Rawal to bring in the charisma of Rishiji but he has tried his best.

As for the plot and overall storyline, I guess the makers got lost probably due to the sudden demise of Rishiji. What could have been an interesting movie on how age is not a factor when it comes to pursue one's passion and be happy gets relegated to how family members block all those things that do not meet societal norms and how the young generation is clueless on about their own future or decisions and only parents know best and only they can resolve any and all issues. The reference to Baghban in the initial sequence gives away what the audience should expect.

If not for the acting from Rishiji and Paresh Rawal, the movie is neither sweet or salty.

Watch Singham or Simmba instead
4 December 2021
A total waste of time, money and energy. It seems Rohit Shetty was just interested in the action and forgot to focus on story and screenplay.

Watch Singham or Simmba instead for cop drama or Gangajal.

Only acting is good. Plot full of holes to put a coffee filter to shame.
6 June 2021
Only the actors make this series watchable else Season 2 also suffers from plot loopholes. It seems that the terrorists in both the seasons are more physically fit, skilled and motivated then the army, police and TASC forces (basically they are unfit).

The national security forces are constantly shown smoking, drinking and eating but thats not the case with the terrorists.

You have captured a wanted terrorists and there is no facility airlift them and bring to base?

Only acting is good. Dont expect anything extraordinary.

Bold and Beautiful
15 January 2021
To make a film on a taboo subject is in itself bold. Generally house helps are portrayed as 'ramu kaka' or 'kanta bai' or a devious conspiring individual but nothing beyond that (unless the hero or heroine is masquerading as one) Here is a film which breaks all the barriers and gives them an identity and treats them as humans having ambition.

Brilliant performances by everyone, no unnecessary drama or a subplot makes this movie watchable. The only constraint is the length. Should it have been 15 to 20 mins shorter it would be a more tighter movie.

Good attempt by Anurag Basu to make a Guy Ritchie like film
14 November 2020
Ludo starts off fantasticly with multiple plots converging at a common point. Somewhere in the middle the script looses its plot to be brought back on the track again.

Decent performances by everyone with standout performance by Rajkumar Rao and the ever so effluent Pankaj Tripathi.

The movie would have been much better and tighter had Anurag Basu decided to edit out some portions.

All in all a decent and honest attempt to make a film which Guy Ritchie is a master off.

Definitely worth a watch. Had it released in theaters it would have ran to full houses by just word of mouth publicity.

Good example of nepotism gone horribly wrong
15 August 2020
A fact which was already proven in Dhadak that Janhvi Kapoor can't act is further cemented in this movie.

Horrible, terrible and completely lacking of passion.

One out of the two star's is for Pankaj Tripathi and the other for bringing the story of Ms. Gunjan Saxena to the masses.

Completely atrocious and absurd. A complete waste of time. Abhishek Bachchan looks tired and uninterested. Story has so many holes in it that it resembles Mumbai roads while in monsoon.

Heart in the right place but not the brain
22 September 2019
The only saving grace in the entire hotch potch of the series is Manoj Bajpayee. First couple of episodes built a good base but somehow lost in after that. Too many parallel tracks, innumerable characters, poor screenplay. The makers got confused and could not decide if it was a family drama, a spy thriller, a NHRC documentary or a story of how terrorists are made or J&K issue. Utter nonsense. If TASC has such idiots and also appoints bigger ones from the police and army to assist them then imagine where the series is heading. Its a bhel puri which will give definitely cause diarrhoea.

When the plot and storyline is weak, movie makers rrsort to great publicity. This is precisely what Endgame is all about. No fizz just gas.
