All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Masterful adaptation
I watched this before reading the reviews. Glad I did. I have read the novel and the adaptation to a series was done extremely well. To be honest it would have taken 20+ episodes to fully capture the novel, I think you would have lost viewers after the first few and that was a wise choice.
The casting, acting, cinematography, special effects and music was exceptional. From the moment I watched the first episode to the last I was hooked. Well done Steven Knight!
Reading afterwards about Aria Mia Loberti really being blind and it was her theatrical debut just added to how magnificent her performance really was. Look forward to seeing her in many things to come. She is the gem in this series!
Mark Ruffalo, and Hugh Laurie passion for their characters was obvious throughout. Hope they do more together, it was a powerful performance.
Netflix, thank you for bringing this to your viewers!!
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
You know what you think you know only to wrap it around your head and say "What just happen.
Family coming together , not much of a family, the try to keep their fathers and aunt's view in line to make the company the most powerful in the world. Carla adaptations.for each scene in this film was the glue that kept it moving. Although there was times it felt familiar, it was only to pull you in and quickly pivot.
Strong cast, Carla I'm such a fan. Keep pushing the boundaries of self, boundaries and keep kicking through those walls.
Writing was great, the jumping around worked very well.
Cinematography, lighting, costume, makeup, sound, special effects should all be proud of this project.
Resident Evil (2022)
Fix the title and give it a second season!!
I'll be honest, the first episode was a hard sell, the acting questionable, didn't make sense for being called "Resident Evil" and not what I thought it would be after waiting many month's (years) for the release.
HOWEVER, after a couple of days decided to forget the title and focus on the story. The second episode got better and by the fifth was hooked. Enjoyed the story, action, plot twists, actors and the acting (minus the first episode). The special effects were awesome and only a few scenes where it was obvious green screen. By the end I wanted more!
My recommendation to Netflix: Change the title to stop the hater's and take another stab at a second season. If you can't change the title, make it an alternate universe where what is expected from the game and franchise are irrelevant. That is the problem that needs to be solved. There are just too many of us living in 1996.
Reacher (2022)
Lana and Aquaman! Well done!
Did not have great expectations based on the reviews. However after watching the first episode I ended up binge watching the entire season. Was a big Smallville fan and was excited to see two familiar faces. This was well written, well casted, entertaining, suspenseful, action packed and Tom who?
I really hope there is a season two and Roscoe is brought back into the fold. She was just as exciting to watch as Reacher and her performance was extremely well done!
Prime!! Season two and three should be locked and loaded now!!
NCIS: Hawai'i (2021)
The pilot was well thought out and a hit for NCIS fans
Saw the preview and didn't think I'd like. Wrong, the characters give us a taste of who they are and I thought that was well done. The story was good for the pilot and I bet it will get better. The casting was also well done. For NCIS you expect a mix bag and we got it. Looking forward to see where this goes.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
Goldie and Kurt are still perfect together!!
This was exactly what I was hoping the second one would be. Goldie you are just wonderful!! Looking forward to a 3rd movie!!
Netflix keep up the great job of entertaining us!!
Magic for Humans (2018)
Good clean fun, stop the hating!!
Justin keep it up, your mix of magic and comedy is refreshing. Ignore the haters, they don't seem to get what you are doing. Reality of magic is the illusion of making you question what you just saw and you do it with a unique style!!
Thank you Netflix
The Knight Before Christmas (2019)
Sir Netflix, I humbly thank thee
Charming, heartwarming and brilliantly cast. A story for the whole family that reminds us of the true wonders of Christmas, love and respect for one another.
Daybreak (2019)
Ferris Bueller's "Daybreak" is awesome
I'm one of those guys that doesn't really care for zombie apocalypse shows. However, this show seems to take it into a completely different direction and the references to Ferris Bueller's Day off is completely awesome. If you bugged out in the first couple episodes then you missed some truly brilliant writing. Take another look and enjoy the ride.
Netflix you've done it again. No D+ for me, keep rocking it!
The Unlisted (2019)
What a fun show for the entire family
I really liked how India culture was worked in without being over the top. The story was well thought out and the cast was perfect. This is a show the whole family can watch. Each episode (15) is 21-28 mins long. Got sucked in and binge watched the entire season. Looking forward to season 2.
Another winner for Netflix!!
Nancy Drew (2019)
A little different Nancy that's interesting
Growing up watching the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries I was expecting something very different. But, after watching the first two episodes I have to say she is growing on me and feels much more current. I'll keep watching!!
Batwoman (2019)
Why the bad reviews? Give it a chance.
Watched two episodes and can see the possibilities. Actually it reminds me of Birds of Prey (anyone remember that?) and was canceled right when it started to get interesting. I like the story line and actors, let's see how this plays out before tossing it under a bus. Based on the actors listed we haven seen yet, it looks like we will see some familiar faces that should bring this all together.
Raising Dion (2019)
Season 2? Heck yay!!!
I watched the first 2 episodes with my 16 year old daughter and thought it was just okay. Binged the rest a few days later and it all came together. The acting from the kids was not perfect, who cares, the story was well done and nice twists along the way. Just like Stranger Things we watched these kids grow up and the acting improved. I for one want to see more of the story. Esperanza you rock!!
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Ho.. Ho.. oh yeah!!
WAY TO GO NETFLIX, you've done it again!!
We watched this two days in a row and the kids put down their devices (doesn't happen often). It's been a very long time that a movie kept me smiling throughout. Kurt is the perfect Santa for all generations. Sure to become a holiday classic.
Will there be another adventure next year? If they do, hope Goldie has a bigger role, just love seeing those two together.
Sea Change (2017)
There better be more to this...
This is a wonderful story, the actors were spot on and held my attention until the "End".
The build up had you guessing and "thought" we had it all figured out... But, there are a few twists along the way to make it really interesting.
I want more!!!
After Earth (2013)
Great story, fast paced and well acted
I don't know what movie everyone who didn't like this watching!! I love every single minute of it.
Seems like Will Smith fans didn't expect this type of character for him (I know I didn't). I found in the beginning of the movie it took a little time to adjust to this very different type of role. However, once I got into the movie I found he pulled it off and pulled me in!! I watched this twice in two days (DVD and then Blu-Ray) and enjoyed it each time understanding a little more. I would have liked this 110 min movie to have been longer (really), there was so much going on that I found myself wanting more of the back stories (men in the tree's, the dead apes...etc). Sure you could make assumptions on what happen and that was clearly the goal. One thing that I wanted to know more about was in post earth where everything was designed to kill humans, why did this bird feel the need to protect. The assumption that everything was out to get you did have some exceptions. Why? Because he tried to protect the her young? Or was there a deeper meaning that some of the old Earth was still intact?
I would recommend skipping the reviews and watch this movie for what it is, a really good story with some fantastic action sequences. Watching it on Blu-Ray on a big screen made all of the difference for me. The art, design and music was incredible. There was some dialog that was difficult to hear at times, but the emotions carried what you could not hear.
Jaden Smith can act and I found this was a great fit for him. I really hope that all of the bad press doesn't stop him from continuing. There is so much of his father in him that I can't wait to see how this young man progresses.
I for one would love to see an After Earth II with Jaden as the lead. Will would not be needed as I feel Jaden can carry the movie on his own.
Again, this is a very different role for Will Smith than what we have come to expect. Get over it!! Watch it a few times and he does grow on you and I would love to see more of this side of a great actor.
I "think" the way this movie was designed, each person gets a little something different out of it each time it is viewed. In my mind, that is what makes a great movie and one you want to watch multiple times.
I would recommend this as a family movie. My kids (13,10 & 9) just loved it and we spent a good 30 minutes after talking about it. Trust me, that doesn't happen very often. If the kids liked it, wanted to talk about it, then they got something of value out of it. The Harry Potter movies didn't get this kind of reaction.
If you go by the reviews and don't see the movie, I think you will be missing a very good movie. Watch it, enjoy it and don't pick it apart. It's a movie, a story and just sit back and enjoy the ride!
