Ok movie not great not memorable
26 January 2024
The first 20 minutes of the movie are great but the rest of the movie feels long and boring. Acting by the lead actors is phenomenal and keeps you from walking out. The movie is pretty weak other than the acting and the screenplay. Have seen a lot of movies with similar premise that are better. This movie tried to marry relationship and court room drama into one but failed.

If it's going for relationship issues then Ingmar Bergman, Rossellini and Antonioni has made much better movies covering the subject. If it's going for mystery the South Korean movie Burning has a lot more going on. If it's going for courtroom drama I suggest Japanese movie I Just Didn't Do It.

It's an ok movie. Wished it was shorter.

Left this mess after 70 minutes in!
23 August 2023
Why are they talking so much? It is fast talking. I got ok with that 5 minutes in but then the lead actor just talks so much. His scenes are painful to watch. Like someone else said in the reviews here that it is too mechanical. There are no emotions in this movie just dialogues that they have to finish in 90 minutes. The story is boring as well. She never leaves the office and after a while it gets boring. Looks like they can everything that fits the plot from the window of their office. I know the whole movie is about making her stay back and derail her marriage plans but the plot device used for that feels forced.

3 hours of nothing
27 October 2021
Only good part about this show was hearing the voices of the friends and family. Period.

This show added nothing to the story which is already out there for years. The experts shown in the show fell flat. I wish there was some evidence presented along with their comments. It was just people talking over 3 hours like everyone was doing when this was in the news. A lot of evidence could have been presented other than the diaries but only if the show makers did their homework. There is a lack of effort on the show makers side and it made this show unwatchable.

I feel sad for the friends and family left behind. Truly horrific for them.

How long Bollywood will keep making historically inaccurate movies?
13 September 2021
I watched the trailer then i read the wiki page of the movie and the incident. This movie is banned in 3 countries because the events depicted are inaccurate.

This is 2021 and a period when India is making great content in film and television. In midst of such a wonderful era we get films like this. If this was a straight-to-DVD flick it'd be ok. But this is a film which is heavily marketed and has one of the best superstars of Bollywood in the lead role. The trailer itself is cringe. It is very sad, most viewers will think of the events depicted in this film are true.

Black Widow deserved better
10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Post credits scene confirms Black Widow's death and her sister is given the assignment to kill Hawkeye. This means this was Black Widow's last appearance at least as far as a solo movie is concerned. I think Black Widow deserved a better movie than this. She's been in the MCU since the beginning and given her skills a great movie could have been made. I mean the comics exist so why such a stupid story. I have no problem with the cast of this movie. It's the story and the CGI climax.

The supporting cast is great and Florence Pugh carried this movie. It's not Scarlett's fault. Her character was not great on screen, again a problem in the writing department. Dad's character was pretty lame as well. Taskmaster could have been great but was not used properly.

Talking about the plot. It was all over the place. I was looking forward to a great one on one fighting sequence between the Black Widow and the Taskmaster but instead got unnecessary CGI mess. That too cheap CGI.

Marvel has all the resources in the world to make a great movie for one of their most popular heroes but instead we got this straight-to-dvd feel flick.

Gertrud (1964)

Cardboard gangster
23 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I would like to start by praising the exceptional work of Carl Theodor Dreyer. This is the third film I have watched of him and he knows what and how to capture with style. Joan of Arc and Ordet are in my list of All time favorite movies. This, however, didn't rub the right way with me. I am not sure what was the reason he chose for the actors to act in a such a way that they appear to be cardboard cutouts. We are talking about love here and relationships of a lifetime but those emotions and feelings are missing in the actors.

I have given a low rating to this movie only because of the plot. There is nothing about the title character that is worth caring about. She can be compared to a drug addict people killing gangster who at the end of their line are thinking about what they have done. Gertrud here is a mature woman but she never acts like one. The whole scene with her ex husband was pointless. She knew it's over, spoiler alert that's why they separated, but she still chose to talk about all that nonsense knowing the conversation is not gonna go anywhere. She tried to have an affair while still married to Gustav but that didn't work out either for her. I felt very happy when Gustav kicked her out. I'm sure he would have felt better later. The entire time I could only think of a selfish gangster trying to paint a sad picture of his life in order for audience to like him. Sorry, not working.

I'm watching a 60 year old movie and if I'm watching it I want something of value out of it like the other two movies of the director I mentioned. I'm watching movies from Steven Schneider's 1001 Movies You Should Watch Before You Die and this one certainly isn't a must see.

Degenerates the movie
21 January 2021
I picked this movie from the list of greatest movies of all time and I'm highly disappointed. This is not my first French movie and I'm glad it is not the case because if it was I would be reluctant to watch another French movie from the 60s.

None of the characters are likable. Score is just whatever. There are a lot of movies made on complex relationships and this is not one.

Nonsense
24 December 2020
I watched this movie after reading a lot of good reviews. I am not sure what people found entertaining in this movie. I was waiting the entire time for the plot to pick up. Towards the end, all the adults, out of nowhere, just started following the kid's instructions. Plot is stupid. Characters are whatever. Their actions don't seem to make any sense. No development in the plot or any character was believable. These kind of movies need their special genre, 'Whatever'.

Just bad
19 December 2020
I know Zombie concept is not new and I don't know how more and more new and exciting features can be added to this concept but this movie is the worst zombie film ever.

I have seen a lot of Zombie films and I love Korean cinema. I have seen movies of the both the lead actors and they are good but not in this film. Movie looked promising in the beginning but descended pretty quickly in to the 'yeah right' territory.

It was a painful watch. I suggest you stay away from this movie.

A Question for the filmmakers, why?
27 June 2020
There is nothing memorable about this movie. Cinematography is somewhat bearable but everything else is just meh. Direction, editing and screenplay all inconsistent. Good to see new faces and I believe the actors have a lot of potential but none of that is seen here. Screenplay is like someone written by a bunch of amateurs. Plot? There is no plot. Unrealistic conversations and behaviors of the characters is just boring. Scenes are not creepy because of what is going on but made creepy with the help of lighting and music. Ignore this one like those robo calls.

Don't waste your time on this.

Other than the fact that this movie is shot on location there is nothing going on. Characters were so underdeveloped to care about what happens to them. Watched it on Netflix, after the first ten minutes I couldn't stop yawning.

Good technicals bad plot.

Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie on the list of top 1000 movies ever made. I have watched top 100 so far and all these films are from the oldest of times and from anywhere on this earth. I wanted to watch this film for a long time and I felt cheated after watching it.

Long and slow movie but I loved the pace. I love drama films and it was going great. Acting Is perfect. Soundtrack sits well with the scenery. Editing and directing is on point. Plot is my problem. It didn't need that twist in the end. Not sure why the writers put it there. I don't rate movies differently if they end on a happy note or a sad note.

Watch it for the beautiful cinematography and that's about it.

Homecoming (2018–2020)

Interesting plot but very bad execution.
5 November 2018
Concept is interesting and I would like to watch more but on my 4K television everything looks fake. I know tv is not meant to be watched at 60 FPS but I'm glad it helps me filter fake content. The facility where Julia works is excessively dark. I don't get it. There is no way such a facility will not be well lit. I get it it's for the theatrics but there is a limit. Same is the case with her house or any building interior they show. Score is not helping either. I feel at times the background music was loud and eerie for no particular reason and not only that that eerie music stops suddenly as well. I thought it was a buildup for something but it's not. It's just trying to keep the audience intrigued in a pointless scene. Acting is acceptable. Cinematography is bad. Screenplay is bad. Editing is bad. Direction is bad. Decide for yourself.

Eighth Grade (2018)

Great acting ruined by awful editing, poor writing and obnoxious score.
26 September 2018
Miss Fisher has done a great job in this movie. Almost oscar worthy performance. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets nominated for Oscars next year. However, her great acting was affected by poor writing and editing. There are some intense scenes in this movie. But as soon as these scenes start getting interesting the movie jumps to a new scene or starts taking about her YouTube videos. No idea why would they ruin a good scene. I have seen a lot of movies where they use music to express the protagonist's emotions but this movie takes out to a whole new level. I wish they hired someone experienced to compose the soundtrack for the film. I do recommend this movie it is fresh and a pleasant ride. If you can sit through the 80s sci-fi music you might like the final product.

Flawed

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not familiar with 1970s events but the ones I'm familiar with and presented here are deeply flawed.

9/11 attacks had two sides, official and conspiracy. Conspiracy theorists claimed it was inside job and official story claimed it was terrorists from Saudi Arabia. Movie says it was from some other middle eastern country. When you make a claim like that provide some proof.

2016 elections went the way it did because people didn't want to vote for Hillary Clinton. People didn't choose Trump as their president. People chose Hillary Clinton as not their president.

As mentioned in other reviews here, Curtis jumps from topic to topic which doesn't have real connection but he makes it look like so. Since the two events I'm familiar with are greatly flawed I cannot agree if all the other events shown are completely true. Hence, 1 star for this film.

Hide and Seek (2013)

Hide and seek indeed!

Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of Korean thrillers. They have this vibe which one won't get to see in a Hollywood flick. This movie is worth a watch. It is a gripping thriller and the title is apt.

The plot follows a wealthy man living with his family. The family is living in a posh locality and luxurious apartments. Our lead character here is hiding his past from the family which comes haunting both for him and his family. His brother is back from jail and is looking for him. When our lead finds this out, strange and dangerous things start happening to him and his family.

Lead decides to check out the place where his brother resides, those apartments are the most interesting thing I have seen in a movie. Them apartments are run down with each apartment having secret passages connecting to other apartments. In those secret passages a serial killer is hiding. The scenes in those apartments are very gripping and full of suspense. Each passage is opening into a new world of mystery.

The only thing which destroys the plot is the very essence of the plot, the secret killer and the missing people. There are people missing in those apartments and looks like police is not doing there job or maybe the police don't exist. What our lead finds out in those apartments could have been found by police in a day or two.

Nonetheless the movie still checks out as a nice thriller you would wanna watch and get lost in those secret passages.
