Amazing!

Fierce warrior women defending their rights and very LIVES, what else could you want in a film?

Every actor holds their own and has great screen presence. Within this subject matter of course the atrocities of the slave trade are at the forefront, and you are never relieved of its affects.

I'm glad I managed to see this in the cinema. The cinematography is brilliant.

I was shocked at the relatively low imdb scoring. I'm hoping this gets the attention it needs as it needs to be talked about. I also hope we have more films such as this!

THESE are the stories we need to be telling more!!!!!!!

Don't let the low rating stop you..

It's all taste at the end of the day. We really enjoyed this, didn't take itself seriously. Just a load of fun. People's taste in humour differs. If you're expecting to laugh every 20 seconds then this isn't the film for you. If not give it a shot!

Loved it
17 July 2021
This is a silly, ridiculous and fun comedy. You'll know soon if it's not for you, but if you think it's not give it a full watch you might surprise yourself. I went in not knowing anything and enjoyed it. Comedies sometimes can take themselves too seriously, this does not. Which is a charming change!

Enjoyed it

Warning: Spoilers
We really enjoyed this show. However we're pretty frustrated at the fact that Dale (Taylor Lautner) is written out with no explanation whatsoever. We simply get a 'Dale's gone' line and that's it. To be honest we only finished season 5 hoping they'd be more closure with his character. To build up his relationships over 3 seasons only to write him out only with a 'he's gone' frankly is an insult to viewers. Surely the writers are creative enough to come up with an on screen send off of sorts. How anyone thought that was a fine enough idea is beyond me.

Amazing

Everyone's taste differs. There are so many elements to the story which keep you entertained throughout, and I was hooked. I myself didn't find it slow or boring as some people have stated. I would say if you're not prepared to sit and watch the whole thing don't watch it at all. The story telling and cinematography are incredible, one of the best series I've seen in the last few years.

Good start but got dull really quickly
29 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This had so much potential but for whatever reason just falls flat. Good performances aside, you don't care about anyone enough to care if they get killed or not, which within a typical revenge thriller isn't a good thing. I know this may be more realistic as in the protagonist isn't going to become an expert hitwoman over night after a few joggings sessions but she seems to spend the whole film clumsily making her way through this list without making much of an impact completely in over her head. Think this was what was so frustrating.

Season 2 seems to have saved it
16 October 2020
I had written a review of season 1, I found it awful, not entertaining in the slightest. I think out of the entire season there were 2 episodes I liked. Season 2 appears to be a game changer, sure some episodes aren't amazing but I've enjoyed these episodes a hell of a lot more than the first batch. It's as if they've read all the bad reviews and kicked it up a notch. I'd say skip season 1 and go straight to season 2.

Great performances but the story was frustrating
3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Looking at the film objectively you get the impression you are supposed to struggle with deciding whose side you are on, Harriet's or Luce's. However I thought the entire film really just paints Luce out to be a full on sociopath. So the negative aspects of Harriet's actions such as how she dealt with the boy who had weed in his locker due to her expectations etc should excuse or appear to be on the same level as Luce's actions? Luce manipulates Stephanie and everyone around him, sets a fire in a school and gets a teacher who is going through personal turmoil fired from her job?! I know he is struggling with his identity and who he should be etc, so that excuses all his actions and also enables his adoptive parents to turn a blind eye? Issues with the story aside everyone's performances were brilliant.

One of the best films I've seen in a while
31 August 2020
This is one of those films where I was completely gripped from start to finish. The director did an amazing job as it feels so atmospheric and there is so much tension in most scenes. If you like a good thriller this is a must watch.

Not Penny Dreadful
9 August 2020
This is not a terrible show but what's making people rate this so low is that it does not hold the same level of supernatural elements that made Penny Dreadful what it was. As other people have reviewed it feels as if what they had on its own wasn't enough so they sprinkled the plot with slight supernatural elements, threw the name in the title and there you go. After having been such a fan of the original show and then to see this I was so disappointed. Not to fault any of the actors they do a brilliant job but while you watch this you do feel you've been lied to regarding its premise. The only supernatural or 'uncanny' element which defines Penny Dreadful in this is an overall arc involving Natalie Dormer but this is not enough. This seems like such a wasted opportunity.

Brilliant, subtle watch
13 July 2020
These all are basically a master class in acting. All done with such an intimate and revealing insight. The sense you get while watching is that although the circumstances of our lives may differ the emotional crises we go through are universal. We can all experience moments of true happiness but suffer all the same. Of course some stories grip you more than others but for the most part there's always a sense of sympathy or relatability brought on by these performances.

DON'T WATCH SEASON 3
28 June 2020
A Perfect example of how a series can go so downhill after it's first season. Season 1 is brilliant Season 2 not great but worth a watch Season 3 is awful Everything that made this series intriguing and gripping is completely gone by season 3. Don't waste your time.

Brilliant, endearing, emotional ride
31 May 2020
Came across this gem a while back. Loved it. Such a thought provoking take on mental illness. Ryan Reynolds really does excel in this role and his performance is brilliant.

This is definitely an underrated film and should be more recognisable. It ebbs and flows from quietly serious to darkly comical which turns out to be an effective mix. Would always recommend!

Not what I was expecting
16 April 2020
When this was announced I was looking forward to it. I was disappointed. Not all the episodes are awful but there just isn't anything that grips you. Nothing that keeps you hooked. Something about them just feels bland and lacking substance.

Brilliant
13 April 2020
This series was something refreshing that was really needed. It is so well written that regardless of whether you would normally be interested in certain plot lines or not, your love for the characters keeps you gripped. Characters have great arcs and the acting in this is brilliant, from everyone involved. This is one I always recommend.

Bit of a mix bag but worth a watch!!!
24 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Although at times this was enjoyable I think this is a perfect example of a series that could have easily been shorter. The acting is brilliant and at times it is suspenseful. I think one flaw is that I never cared a great deal about the characters. Other reviews here seem to dispute that. Spoilers! - - the whole series builds itself around Danny's death. Now I know there was alot of background with the character and reasons why he acted the way he did But he was just so unlikeable. Its difficult to be bothered about finding out who killed him or how he died when you don't really care. He went round burning bridges left right and centre so much that in the end I couldn't wait for his death to come! I'd say it was worth watching though!

Refreshing...
12 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A zombie apocalypse used not for the usual dreaded countdown until death, but the catalyst for fixing a couple who are broken. Karen and John are caught in this inevitably bleak situation and just get on it, finding each other again along the way. This is not the typical film of this genre as touched on before so should be looked at more as a weird, funny and intimate take. Would recommend for those who are bored of seeing zombie guts and bodies being ripped apart...

Brilliant watch
28 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was hooked from beginning to end. The acting is brilliant as expected from Stephen Graham but the entire cast hold their own and certainly aren't overshadowed. The style in which this was produced and edited is fantastic. The way in which we receive flashbacks in the visual form of old video footage I think was a brilliant and effective way to show this, it somehow made it more gripping, we are trying to work out what has happened through the grainy video just as Joseph is. The ending couldn't have been better. They give you the culmination of two story threads of abuse, one showing a hope of closure in the form of forgiveness while the other shows the horrific repurcissions that can happen when forgiveness is unattainable. This juxta position of Joseph's and Dinah's resolution is so profound. This was so well done. A very emotional and impactful piece but with an air of sensitivity and respect to any victims who may be watching. All in all a great watch!
