Me Before You (2016)

Utterly blunt
16 August 2016
Well, sure it is a sweet loving and touching story but I was totally surprised by Clarke's performance. I found her giving a lot of effort to be a sweet/innocent/naive little girl/woman. During the film, she never stops smiling (sometimes it gets really awkward), her relationship with that other guy is far away from any other 7year old relationship according to her choices and generally how she deals with it.

Claflin is wandering from scene to scene and I truly found it difficult to feel his situation. He is also - oh yeah - smiling inexcusably throughout this film and I overall thing that this movie came to an end with a really immature way in a point that the film really underestimated any viewer's sense of logic.

Just give it a try on a Sunday evening but in my opinion it's inevitable for you to attach yourselves with these characters, feel any sympathy or a feeling for cry. Just a blunt mediocre film. Pity for Clarke. I was expecting far more from her.

Awful!
3 December 2015
I really cannot understand how this movie got rated with 7 stars. I'm from Europe and I've got to admit that I'm not a fun of European films. We really suck on that field... most of films luck in just a little bit of everything.

So does this film. No music score at all, no acting, no scenario and completely awful landscape. Of course there are twists and turns in this movie but cause of bad acting, filming and no music at all ends up completely spineless.

A few characters show up completely out of the blue, adding nothing to the "so called" story, and everything got lost by the end. Avoid this "for god sake" 7-star rated movie. I think my next choice will be Bolywood. Im sure they are 100% better than this European "masterpiece".

Plain waste of time. Keep yourselves away from this...

What the f****
11 October 2015
Well this review interacts only with those who red the book.

TO begin with, I'm obliged to say that the director of this film made some changes to the story which anyone who red the book will find them completely unnecessary, added zero points to the plot, diminished lots of funny parts and made this film completely spineless, blunt and unfunny.

Some said that the act was great, well I'm not so sure about that. Allan's attitude in the book has nothing to do with the so-called acting of the protagonist. He looks completely as a corpse who's being dragged through the entire film. Some characters were added and I don't find the reason why? Some stories changed and were utterly twisted which again don't find the reason why? They sure had the budget but screwed up with the scenario. Pity, pity, pity that they didn't get this film up to the top, when it was clear that they had such an amazing funny story.

Where's Zola?
20 June 2013
First of all, you need to read the book.

To begin with, I'd say Ameris tried to compress the book in just about an hour and something. The result was too many parts of the book, necessary to the plot, to be left out so it is difficult for the viewer to attached to the characters.

Demoustier is very earthly beautiful girl and yes she's great as Pauline. But none of her outbreaks in the book was filmed in the movie, neither her lingering character between love and hate.

Arlaud was just boring at his acting and nothing reminded him to me from the book.Totally uninterested. Basler as Mme Chanteu is perhaps the only character from the book so close to the text. Excellent acting, but Balmer was just a shadow in the movie. Veronique, a very strong role in the book, was totally absent from the movie, not even the ending included her.

To sum up, it was a good effort, but the book is much much better and in-tensed. Don't do both, either watch the movie or read the book (I'd prefer the second choice). But the movie from itself is another boring story irrelevant to the magic quill of Emil Zola.

Belle Isle

Well I can see that this movie is overpriced due to it's story. Freeman's acting is smooth and it's always a delight to watch a movie with him, but in this case there;s nothing more. As I said, his acting is really smooth and I'd dare to say that I got bored early enough. The feeling which grows among Freeman and Madsen is so out of the blue and totally not believable. There's an awkwardness among them and its like Madsen is afraid to react with such an actor and Freeman on the other hand is just being bored. My 5 star is only for the kids in this movie but that's overall. I wouldn't go to see it at theaters that;s for sure and it's almost sure that it's not going to the Oscars as other reviews saying. It's just a typical Sunday movie, spineless and nothing more.

An excellent Saturday DD night
17 June 2012
Well, don't mind the IMDb viewers rate, cause this movie had it all,if it weren't for a little spineless script.

Nevertheless, this is a great movie for a Saturday night with a bunch of friends, pizza and beer. Hilarious it is, if you asked me.It's just a good old horror film which means:

1. Who gives a s**t about the script (If I wanted a good horror script I'd have watched Seven or maybe the first two SAW again)

2. All sizes of tits (that covers even the most demanded)

3. Hilarious horror scenes (a girl giving birth to piranha that instantly eats man's penis.... I mean what the f***...GREAT SYMBOLISM)

4. LOL for D. Hasselhof appearance (DH: Man, I am a lifeguard after all!! :))] 5. The agony of the protagonist 'cause of the lack of acting is just unbearably funny.

To sum up with, don't miss it. Find a couple of friends with a great sense of humor and enjoy a great Saturday night.

Psychiatry through fairy tales
17 December 2010
Disney took and reform one of the most knowing fairy tales, Rapunzel. And as Disney always do, is filling all those tales with tons of secret messages, either to hopefully trying to make kids understand some values of life through entertaining or reminding the same old values to us grownups.

In my point of view, we have this girl who is coming of age trapped in her "tower" of virginity longing to get matured and finally discovers where do these lanterns will might lead her. Rapunzel grew up in the arms of her step mother who is over protecting her and as most mothers is trying to persuade her that the world might change if she decides to leave from the fondling and protection of her childhoods.

Examing the step mother, i would say -as i did above- that as all mothers do is trying with all means to keep close to them their precious little child as if it's the only way for them to stay young. What else can a mother feels if not for feeling young again mirroring herself into her growing little girl. Of course, a step mother could have a hole different meaning. It might pictures all the betraying and bad willings of the outside world and all the wrong messages a girl might take when she's coming of age and lusting to discover with her innocence the hole world.

Then, we have the chameleon. A small little creature which uses to change its color. I believe that chameleon as it being portrayed in the movie, might represent Rapunzel's mood. We can see through the movie that chameleon has a very powerful role. It's there in every Rapunzel's expressions of feeling and changes its color according to her mood. It's blue when she's trapped and scared. It's green when she has no worries, it's pink when she's feeling that something new is overtaking her.

As for her hair...it might stands for her purity. 17 years of purity and innocence which finally loses when she realize that she's in love with a man. All this purity and innocence which used to work as a healing procedure to every person who might feel wrong or troubled. And who is that person that doesn't feel losing all his troubles by the presence of a young, carefree and joyful little child.

The lanterns are all her mixed up feelings which she's not ready yet to reveal and for 17 years she's able only just to watch them from distance as if she's afraid or maybe not yet strong enough to examine them. But finally when she's turning 18, being mature now, she leaves fear or questioning behind, and discovers how great it is to understand your feelings in all their expressions.

Then we have the falling in love which is followed by betrayal then, the fear of losing a loved one, and finally the power of love which is undefeated. But, allowed me to say, the obvious reference of two persons which their love is also expressed physically. We can see the lighting flower which blooms from (don't misunderstand me) the young man's pubic area. I believe this reference is very clear, the sealing of love by the act of physical love. An act that brings someone back to life.

All in all, i always admired Disneys perspective of building or reforming a fairy tale and making it look as "just an other fairy tale for kids" but for someone who wants or willing to dig it up he can find innumerable quotes and hide messages. Messages that i suppose are being well hidden into child subconscious and which they finally will find the way to evaluate them when they will come of age.

Funny as hell...
3 October 2010
I have to say that i'm not aware of other Parr's films but this one is truly funny as hell.

He graped all the stereotypes about black people and used it in a hilarious way. This is what we call in Greece "To knowing myself". The acting is exceptional for this kind of movie and the characters has been treated with absolute care one by one. It's a well structured comedy and all the quotes and impersonations of other familiar people are just brilliant and hilarious.

The impersonation of D.Washington from the movie "Trainign Day" was one of the greatest scenes in the film. Same for the actress who's playing the pageant girl, i couldn't breath cause of the laughs. But as i said above, the thing that does this film such a great comedy is Rus. Parr's brilliant way to use all the stereotypes into a self-sarcastic way.

Don't miss. I don't know if i should recommend to you to go to the theaters but definitely get it on DVD. It's just a great comedy for a long time now. Enjoy it.

Don't touch
3 October 2010
I don't have any words to describe this truly meaningless film. I guess it's one of those times which they use the common recipe. Pick up three or four well known actors and whatever the script is we will have a success.

Well, there is no concept, O.Wilson-A.Brondy-Schwartzman are just like they accidentally met somewhere and thought: well, we're here why don't just make a film. Uninspired acting as if they really get bored during the movie, the scenery could be much better and really i don't know what the director was trying to say.

It's a total waste of time. You have nothing to gain from this film. It has been characterized as comedy-drama-adventure and this is how i rate these three categories: comedy:1 - drama: 0- adventure:1.

My advise....let it pass you by or else you'll end up scratching your head and looking each other with an expression of: what just did happened?

Classical Woody Allen
23 October 2009
Woody did it again. A brilliant movie with stiff characters so familiar and yet so strange. This should be indeed a film to teach upcoming directors and writers.

Sparkling dialogues, sarcastic, ironic, REAL...so real!!!! Enjoyable from the start to the end. Woody shoot us constantly with large doses of outstanding lines which is so hilarious you can't process the next dialogue. Incredibly funny.

Do yourself a favor and go to the theater with good -sense of humor- and clever friends. Do enjoy it, and please....please don't give so much notice on bad reviews. People just maybe lost their sense of humor

An animated masterpiece
26 May 2009
Narrated in such a way that brings up all your favorites. The Nigntmare before Christmas, scissor-hand, corpse bride.

Excellent animate, funny dialogs, creepy in some points even for the adult ones. The music keeps captivating you through the hole movie.

It s a very well constructed story about a girl moving somewhere else when suddenly-in her own place-something really weird is starting to unfold and confuse her to the point that she must take some decisions for her-and others-life.

The script is well-written though i have not read the book, but i can tell for sure that from the start to the end your eyes are stacked to the screen to see what is going to happen next.

9 out of 10 and too bad this movie didn't come in air on winter. It is a really winter movie just to enjoy it with a cup of hot chocolate. A must see.

Do not risk it
14 April 2009
Well, to begin with, i gave 5 to this movie just for the effort.

I was really surprised to see that others voted this movie w 8 stars. It passes no sense of fear or horror or even sense of metaphysic. Just a little girl and her thirst for blood (which in lots of parts reaches the bounds of humiliation). A young boy trying to find himself among other classmates isn't enough to build a scenario. Neither does a girl who by the way the director doesn't even bother to explain to us how the h..l did she end up in that city. Or why she does not know what love is even if she lived over several years.

To end up, this movie was at least awful, underestimated my knowledge and unfortunately wasted my time. Do not follow it to cinemas and keep away of DVD.

There is no DOUBT
14 April 2009
There is no doubt that Doubt is one of the best films this year. Meryl Streep was for one more time and after a such joyful role in Mama Mia outstanding. Not overreacting but strongly performed the role of the strict nun full of doubts. As for Hoffman.....Somewhere i read that when Brad Pitt was trying to build his body Hoffman was finishing his studies on acting. Director did an excellent job as his film really sets you in the mood and the era where the facts are unfolding. All performances were if not great really good and the best part of all is that this film surely leaves you with a sense of doubt in the end. Really mature performances by those two, a very strong movie that will remain to my DVD collection for long.
