Feels like it respected the noir genre, while mixing in some dystopian sci-fi. All the right elements are there: The femme fatal, the lonely jaded detective, the cynical honest friend and the violent yet clever antagonist.
It was a bit slow at times, but the atmosphere and casting was great.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending, I wouldn't want it to be happy just less stupid. I'd preferred it if the main character died, that would have resulted in a higher rating.
Yi dai zong shi (2013)
Extremely beautiful in places, gorgeous to look at, but it can't conceal the haphazard story that results in a hard to follow and uninvolving movie.
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
How far would you go to become someone else.
Enter the world of the sociopathic killer and enjoy.
Idi i smotri (1985)
Bludgeoning the audience
There is much to learn about the atrocities of WWII, but it can not be learned from this film. This film appears to want to be artistic and make a point, I don't understand why it is placed among the best, brute force can't be used to convey tragedy. It could have said much more with less, the length would have benefited from some serious editing.
It was very hard to watch, not due to the difficulty so much of the brutality of the events depicted rather due to the relentless overacting and completely unnatural performances of the actors. The actors over the top acting and expressions make it appear as the characters are psychotic in almost every scene, and the camera is often positioned right in front of their faces.
