Very intense film.
7 March 2021
The conversation in this film create a lot of tension for the viewer since they are painful to listen to. It seems these "humans" are in some starting phase of human development, or perhaps fungus took over their brains. Is this a sequel to Invasion of the Body Snatchers after the pod people won? I don't know but perhaps the point of the film is to create tension -just that, tension. In which case I give it a 10/10. I've used the word tension so many times that I resemble the film.

Tension.

Masterpiece

I suppose the directors either had narcissistic parents or they're just naturally good at psychology. The films reveals a lot about the demons in the human psych, even depicting demons masquerading as a persons real identity. It's definitely up there with the film 'Where the Wild Things Are.' Every facial gesture, emotion, and sound are never wasted. You'll love this movie if you enjoy Salad Fingers, the game Machinarium, and Planescape Torment, if 'enjoyment' is the right word to use for a such a depressing film.

The Room (2019)
9/10
Very well executed.
26 December 2020
The film was meticulously done, and all reservations I had about the choice of actors and the dialogue were dispelled as the film carried on. The thing about the film is that it's interesting from beginning to end, and ends up memorable without trying tome. I really wouldn't change anything. Also check out Vivarium, which I enjoy equally as much.

I want to add that I don't trust movie reviews anymore, I just watch stuff randomly now. Good movies are dismissed, and empty films are highly rated. Typically in the category of horror you can expect a 1-3 point decrease in ratings.

Vivarium (2019)

Very refined movie.

There's nothing about this film I would change. The entire thing is fascinating, including the ending. The cast is perfectly chosen, the dialogue is interesting, and the visuals are splendid. This is definitely a real sci-fi movie up there with classics like The Cube and The Mist. Much respect to the director/writer.

Underrated gem.
6 October 2018
It's been more than a year since I saw this film, and I'm still recommending it to people. It's character driven and very believable, and whatever shortfalls the plot has are easily made up by the believable cast, dialogue, and interactions between the characters. The men are masculine and tough, and the women are feminine and tough, so both sexes are depicted beautifully. Really, the cast was perfectly picked and you feel like you're watching a real Dominican family.

Is it one of those films that is so serious that you regretted watching it? Definitely not! Everything is just right and I would say the film is for anyone looking for a serious film that is easy to watch. This is definitely not just for veterans, yet veterans will really love this film. A similar (non military) film to this would be 'Into the Furnace' with Woody Harlesson because of how manly that film is, so if you loved that film, you'll like this one. (Woody is such a bada** in that film, and a master actor.)

Not much to say otherwise except that you should go see it. Yes I'm one of those guys that loved 'The Thin Red Line' in theaters, but no... it's not slow like that. This one carters to a much wider audience.

Papillon (I) (2017)
2/10
This isn't a real movie, so don't bother.
18 August 2018
This is an insulting remake of the 1973 classic Papillon. I don't even want to get into the details because I'm so angry right now. The only reason this movie exists is so that your kids see THIS instead of the original. Back in the 1980's, when I was a kid, we would see all the classics on TV, and it makes you so intelligent and cultured watching those films. The new generations? 50 IQ super hero movies, reboots, CGI porn, and remakes that are shadows of the originals.

Hollywood, you need to stop erasing history. I know what you're doing, and it's not going to work. You're not going to get your global socialist dystopia. You're going to fail to destroy Western culture and history.

STOOOOOOOOOOP. I hate you hollywood. I'm so glad the Indie scene exists to counter your evil.

Btw, Papillon is French for 'Butterfly,' and not 'Escape.'

Disney hates you.
19 December 2017
I was going to ask why "5-year-old" men are allowed to make movies these days, and then I realized that kids can be very mature, so I don't want to insult them. In fact, if I had kids, the first thing I would do is to buy them episodes 1-6 because they are intelligent movies that teach moral lessons, and they depict how the world works accurately instead of sugar-coating it.

This movie does not do any of those things. It is stupid and immature, and I would force my kids to watch all 3 new SW films as a test to see if they could spot all the illogical nonsense and poor writing.

Another reviewer mentioned that this film is like this so that it opens up to a wider audience? What?? Are you that dense? What audience DOESN'T SW catter to? And what profits does it lack, that they should strive to get more of it? Sure... greed, but my point is that SW has been dumbed down to dumb down the population. I was forced into this evil film, but when are you people going to stop paying money for this toss?

I do not know who this species is that this movie catters to, but I imagine their diet to be roughly 70% Dairy Queen, 20% sugery drinks, living in the city, trendy glasses, and sips hot cocoa. Completely beta-male, soul-less, participation trophy-class trite.

Rogue One, TFA, and TLJ = not actually SW movies.

A film that should be seen twice before you decide.
20 September 2017
When I first saw Blade Runner, I wasn't impressed, but certain scenes stuck out for me and I watched it again the next day, and quickly it became one of the favorite's. The same thing happened with A:C, a movie that -- in the end -- felt like a 6/10 film, until I thought about it...

...After about an hour of contemplation, certain scenes stuck with me so much that I watched it again, giving it an 8.5 score. The flute scene, the neo-morph breathing scene, the effective and simple dialogue that is intellectual, the sheer brutality and quickness of the aliens, and so many other things. It gave me nightmares for 2 days, in fact. But above all the world was believable despite the abundance of minor flaws.

I think people who watched this film felt insulted because the standards in the film industry are lower than ever, and they felt that the film was insulting their intelligence. But I never got that sense, not in this film. Ridley Scott is such a generalist, who is able to create a believable world, yet no matter how much you try to explain it, Rick Deckard still climbs up a building, with broken fingers, in the rain, laterally (?), while a replicant is hunting him. But people only point the finger when A:C does silly things.

The movie tried to please all fans, but mostly it was the Prometheus fans who will enjoy this the most. if you've seen it, ignore the blatant minor flaws and see it one more time, because it's a movie with depth and SOUL behind it and only Ridley Scott can do the atmosphere and cinematography JUST RIGHT, and I predict that the rating will go up within 5 years, as did Blade Runner, though it might never be a classic.

Above all, I found it to be meticulously done, despite the flaws.

A soul-less Starwars film.
14 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a fan of episodes 4-6 without the CGI, and I even like episodes 1-3 because they had magic, soul, warmth, interesting writing, dialogue, and told good stories.

Rogue one:

-No opening crawl. -Weak dialogue, writing, story. -Music was super dull. -No clever sense of humour. K-2s0 felt like he was written by a fat Dungeons and Dragons geek. -Characters are plasticy. -Lacks magic and soul -World doesn't feel alive or real. (extra's aren't developed, as if they are really alive and part of the world) -CGI faces.

I just hate it, what can I say? And TFA too, but that one had a little bit of soul.

Just another ego-based movie.
26 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say about a movie I had to turn off at the half-way mark? The main character is a Gary Stu. (Male version of Mary Sue) His character is so unrealistic and blown out of proportion that I couldn't handle it anymore. If you're over 21 and you like this film, I feel bad for you.

The Russian villain, OMG, SO Cliché!!!! This guy is a PURE gingerbread man. Everything from his "cool and collected" tone-of-voice, his accent, to the fact that he is an avid drinker make him completely uninteresting.

A movie for Narcissists.
23 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers: There's a saying for a male who always has his penis on his mind; d_ck head. So what is the female equivalent? Slut, I suppose. The main character, Michele, is just that, a slut, and a narcissistic one too, and she is quite insane, perverse, and immoral. She is in essence completely disconnected from the heart.

She's a special type of crazy because she has never experienced sanity, so she has nothing to compare it to, and that's dangerous. Her money and status in society and her posh dwelling place always remind her to justify her actions, such as cheating, and that she's doing life right, when in reality she is border-line dead. Oh, she moves her and there with pace, but she is next to death. Not just her, but her neighbors across the street, her acquaintances, co-workers, and relatives. They are all, literally, like demons.

This movie apologizes for insanity and wraps it up in a story to justify it. It brings you into the world of people who don't know what to do with themselves, so their high points in life are raping women "because it's necessary," stroking their genitals, pumping out a baby when you don't have the means nor the maturity nor a loving partner to do it with, decorated with awkward "casual and polite" conversations with fake smiles and laughter from a group of people who feel nothing but numbness or anger.

As research material for the Psychologist, it is a triumph. The characters are believable! But do I want to watch them? Does it make for a good movie? No, it does not, for the same reason that I don't want to watch a movie that makes us empathize and feel compassion for a pedophile. This movie is moral decay in a time where the film industry -- not just Hollywood -- is losing its mind.
