Seinfeld: The Pen (1991)
Only Show Without George and Kramer
Kramer and George make Seinfeld as funny as it is, and at the same time, I'm not taking anything away from Elaine or Jerry. This episode takes place at Jerry's parents condo in Florida, and it is the only episode without Kramer or George, so naturally, I would've thought that it would be very tough to match the caliber of other episodes. Ironically, after seeing this episode, it is definitely in my top 10 of Seinfeld episodes, and probably in my top 5 (if I made a list). It was this episode, more than almost any of them, that proved how successful a show (let alone a episode) about nothing could be. The episode is really all about Jack Klompus's astronaut pen and "how it writes upside down". Jerry expressed interest in the pen and this lead to Jack forcibly giving Jerry the pen. This might as well caused mass hysteria in their community, with everyone arguing about Jerry taking Jack's pen, but others saying that Jack gave him the pen. There's much more to the episode, but my whole point of writing this review on this particular episode (since it was without George and Kramer) is that when Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David got together for the show during their long run, there was no mistaking that they were going to write a hilarious show every time. Combining both of them into one, Jerry's and Larry's minds were the comic genius of our time, if not of all time.
Fantastic Four (2005)
good and funny, slightly corny but not too bad
I got to screen Fantastic 4 last night when it came in to our theater and it was very entertaining, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm are the characters that steal the spotlight, because of their humor I thought, but they also had nice action sequences. Jessica Alba is pretty good as Invisible Woman (or girl). The acting could have been better, but it got the job done. SPOILER ALERT: I did enjoy the traffic scene where the 3 others were looking for The Thing and how they all demonstrate their powers for the first time in public. Also when Dr. Doom walks through the parking garage towards one of his former board supervisors and doesn't say a thing to him, then just decides to electrocute him after he had talked a little too much. Scenes like that with Doom made the movie as good as it is. I'll leave everything else to the viewers eyes. 7/10.
Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966)
Well, um, I uh, um, like, what the....i don't know ha ha?
Sorry but the title of this summary kind tells you how the movie went. I seriously hope the director was not attempting to make a good movie, because if that is the case, I'm ashamed to call myself a human being, I think I'd rather be that guy with that pink-painted absurdly looking finger-dress (oh maybe thats Manos). To get on with the point, you would have to be pretty brilliant to be able to follow or comprehend any of this complete utter disaster that is mistakenly called a movie or be able to find anything good about it. I just couldn't watch a lot of it, because I was afraid that my intelligence would actually decrease if I saw the whole thing. Usually I would strongly advocate watching a movie through to its entirety before reviewing it, but this one is an exception. Don't waste your time....unless you want to.....1/10.
The Honeymooners (2005)
Bad, but NOT the WORST
Bottom line for me is this, the movie was not very good. Most of it was not funny, and it felt like kind of a waste of time. However, it did have enough humor in it to be slightly better than a one rating. Mike Epps was pretty dumb, but he did have a few smile/laughter causers (if that makes sense). What I mean is that there were a few funny moments, and that was enough to not give it a one, two or three. Forgive my frustration dear reader, but I find it so infuriating when I see a movie get so many ones (I do understand it getting ones, but not 80% of all voting), not just this one, but I'm sure you have noticed that almost every single movie has more one votes than twos or threes or fours, and it is just silly because I believe a one should be given to a movie that just makes you want to stop living, like 'Manos' The Hands of Fate, the worst movie I have ever seen, and that has a 1.6 rating (or around that), and Honeymooners has close to the exact same. Let me tell you, those two movies are not even close to each other. Anyways, I think my point has been made, I give this one a 3-4/10.
Batman Begins (2005)
It's about time (SPOILER AT THE END!!)
Well, after seeing the screening of Batman Begins this past Tuesday night, I can honestly finally say that this is the Batman movie that was not released those other four times and should have been. This movie deserves the sole "Batman" title more than the 1989 Burton version. It was done correctly; show how he becomes the dark knight in the first one, not the FIFTH one (even though I really feel bad about comparing this masterpiece with the other four pretenders). I don't want to give away much of the movie, I just want to say that this movie made me think to myself "how terrifying it would be to encounter Batman in a dark alley", not "I see your nipples in a dark alley, (laughter follows)". Scarecrow and Batman to me make the movie as frightening as it is, and therefore I give my strongest warning to parents of young children to really abide by the PG-13 rating because it could have easily received an "R" because of the nightmarish material in the movie. Very well written, one because it gives viewers who haven't read the comic book a very good insight to what was in it, and two, because every bit of dialogue that I tried to predict in the middle what the rest of the words would be was a lot more satisfying than regular predictable dialogue. SPOILER HERE: My favorite part is at the end of the movie, when Gordon tells Batman that he never thanked him, Batman's reply was (the perfect reply nothing better could have been said) "and you'll never have to." I think that speaks for itself. By all means, see this movie. 9/10
Saw (2004)
...one of the only recent horror movies to genuinely scare me
Well, I have to admit that beforehand, I thought the previews were pretty darn good, but I was prepared to be potentially disappointed because of other scary movies that had MUCH better previews than their movie turned out to be. After seeing Saw, the previews weren't nearly as good as the actual movie. I have to say that it is one of the only recent horror movies to genuinely scare me, mainly because of how UNPREDICTABLE it was from beginning to end. I have to say that the storyline of Saw was written more brilliantly than any horror film in recent memory at the least. Once you think you've figured out what's going on, you will be totally thrown off. EVERY big part of the plot is explained and it makes sense later on if you think of earlier scenes in the movie and why certain things happened or why they didn't happen. It is one of those movies that if you watch it more than once, you will completely understand reasons for things that happened that you may not have before...comparable to Fight Club is how good this movie is. I sincerely hope that this gets some kind of Oscar nomination, because I don't think a better movie will be coming out this year or anytime soon. On one of my extreme rare occasions when rating movies, I am obliged to give this one a 10,or ****, however you rate movies, anything less would be criminal. I strongly suggest seeing this in theaters while you still can, and a bit of advice also would be to not take any bathroom or snack breaks while watching this movie; if you blink or look away once, there's a good chance you will miss something very important to understanding this movie. Anyways, my point is that this movie deserves to be dubbed an instant classic; I know I consider it one, and I can't talk about any parts of the movie because I wouldn't want to be responsible for listing spoilers, so sorry about that. THIS IS A MOVIE-LOVER'S MUST SEE MOVIE!!!!
Raging Bull (1980)
DeNiro and Pesci are brilliant in this film
In Raging Bull, Robert DeNiro gives, arguably, the best performance of his career, and Joe Pesci, this being his feature film, gives an amazing performance. - Easily, one of the top 25 movies of all time, and in my top 5
