No answers but compelling viewing

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary film isn't going to give you the answers to the questions we all have. Why did he come back in 2009? Was he really riding clean in 2009? How did he manage to hide the truth for so long? I went into this film hoping for answers to some of these questions, I didn't get them, but what I did get was a riveting documentary film. By the end of this film you'll have more unanswered questions than you went in with.

The first half of this film is just information anyone following this story already knew. Although the interviews with Dr. Ferrari are particularly interesting. It's the second half of this film that makes it a great art documentary. The footage taken during Lance's comeback in 2009, in conjunction with the interviews following the doping revelations make for discomforting viewing. You can tell even in the post-revelation interviews that he is still manipulating, still telling half-truths. I came away with the impression he's spent so long lying he doesn't know the truth himself. There is certainly a lot more to this story than has been told.

I left the cinema with this uncomfortable feeling in my gut. A feeling that there are no great sporting heroes, just people who haven't been caught yet, perhaps that feeling in my gut is disillusionment.

Surprisingly good

I historically have not been a fan of Ben Affleck, however I have to admit he has made a fantastically entertaining film, his acting was also superb.

Before going to see this film I thought I might not like it for 2 reasons. The first I have stated above. The second is that I read some of the unfavourable reviews before I saw the film and it sounded like it would just be another 'Smart American saves the day, Arabs are stupid,' and I hate these type of films.

But it wasn't like that, it set just enough historical context to give you some understanding of what was going on and why the American Embassy was stormed. I felt sympathy for the characters, I wanted them to escape. And despite the fact that I knew what the outcome was going to be before I even sat down I was still biting my fingernails at the end only just managing to stop from shouting at them to hurry up.

Surprisingly excellent film. Great acting, great direction and great script.

Funny, touching and a little bit sad
9 January 2011
I thought this was a fabulous film, really worth going to see. The acting was superb and it was beautifully shot. I thought the main storyline was great, to me it was really believable, obviously there were over the top elements to add comedy value, but even in this age there are parents who don't except their children being gay. However, whilst I thought the main story was great I didn't think the side story lines quite melded into the film, the story with the grandmother and Nicolo, and the other with Alba (don't want to give away too much, for me didn't quite work. I also think the story with the brother could have been explored more throughly. This film is well worth a couple of hours of your time, despite the ending I still came out smiling. For those of you who aren't too keen on gay scenes there is only one kiss in this film. This film is more about family, expectations and how we all strive not to disappoint our parents. Don't miss it.

I didn't want it to end

Warning: Spoilers
This is a fabulous film, the acting is superb, the film is shot beautifully and the storyline is riveting. There are a few times during this film when the screen blacks out and I was actually begging that it wouldn't end. It is a long film but it didn't feel long, the only sign that I'd been in the cinema a long time was my eyes were getting sore from reading subtitles. But don't let subtitles put you off going to this film. I'm not usually keen on random love stories being thrown into films but I thought this one worked very well, perhaps the end was slightly unbelievable and a bit Hollywood but by that stage I was shouting for them to get together.

The reason this film got 8 instead of 10 were that at some moments in the film I lost what was going on, it seemed to cut too suddenly, and there were some aspects I still didn't understand at the end. But ultimately a film well worth going to see.

OK but nothing new here

Warning: Spoilers
This is an enjoyable film and maybe my low score is due to it not living up to other peoples reviews.

I didn't think there was any new concepts in this film. Dreams merging into reality is not new. In fact I think if they had stuck closer to the title of the film, i.e. inception of an idea through the dream state, instead of going down the action route I believe it would have been a much better film. All of the actors are excellent, Leonardo DiCaprio is great as he usually is, but in my own opinion he is much better in Shutter Island (I also think it's a much better film) My summary is that it's an enjoyable action film with more of a plot than most action thrillers. Good fun but far from the best film I've ever seen.
