Colour Photo (2020)
Redefining Telugu Cinema!
We've truly come a long way in looking past the masala movies produced by the big actors and rewarding rich stories - Colour Photo is a sparkling example of his.
Suhas and Chandini play believable small town roles, that don't have many frills. There are no rich cars, explosive entries or thumping music numbers in this movie - just the people and the wonderful interplay of their emotions in a semi rural setting. The narrative constantly focuses on understanding people - a small town girl who is outspoken, an average dark skinned guy who is under confident, and a psychotic older brother who is conservative. It's their story from multiple perspectives, that comes together magnificently on the silver screen as the audience is hooked to each scene.
Exceptional writing, genuinely hardworking actors, soothing music and well thought out direction make colour photo a gem of a movie to watch. Do not miss this movie which leaves you floating in a sea of emotions from start to end.
Dunkirk (2017)
A milestone in film making!
After 3 painful years of anticipation, I was fortunate enough to get passes for the advanced screening of Dunkirk. However, I wasn't prepared for what unfolded on the big screen. This movie is a rendition. With barely any narrative and full of long shots with whirring plane noises that make you cringe, it is perhaps at the zenith of Nolan's film making. You know that a filmmaker has succeeded when his work has the capacity to teleport you into the scene, and Dunkirk does exactly that. Momentarily, you become Hardy's copilot, the seamen's first mate and the infantry's best friend! I am thrilled that Nolan has moved away from his usual style of film making and returned to producing technically sound films. There is a lot of talk about the effective usage of the mis-en-scene, but trust me when I say this, Dunkirk will put a rest to that! With artful plays on temporal story telling, engrossing and convergent plot lines and involving actors who had just their eyebrows to articulate emotion with, the movie is certainly a Magnum Opus in film making. Watch the movie this weekend!
Interstellar (2014)
There are some movies which stay etched in your memories!
To start off with the level of expectation is pegged at an all time high with the current prowess of Chirstopher Nolan. To not much surprise he delivers, yet again!
The cinematography is what stands out the most for me, looking at it from the VFX perspective, the landscapes are not just picturesque but are visually thrilling to experience. The story line does keep you gripped for most of the time as this interwoven story of sacrifice, emotion, drama and thrill of space travel keeps you at the edge of your seats for most of the time.
Matthew performs well in the lead role drawing essential emotions and the right intervals in the movie. So does the rest of the cast with the other obvious stand out being Anne Hathaway as Dr Brand. The humor is played to good effect as the audience retains its interest in this saga pertinent to unconventional space travel.
This movie will soon become the central topic of discussions among various groups, it shall inspire film making and take it to the next level, it is one movie you should experience and you shall never forget once you have witnessed the phenomenon.
Attarintiki Daredi (2013)
Good enough for an entertainer
The movie starts off on a slow pace but picks up. It is an out and out entertainer and Pawan pulls off the moves very well. Praneetha is graceful and Samantha is hot as usual. The comedy isn't recycled and though the dialogues do not pack the usual punch are good enough for the story line.
Brahmanandam is good in bits and pieces an complements the movie well. The sentiments between families are brought out well and exemplified in this movie.
Though couple of scenes might have been an exaggeration it is all in all a film worth watching.
Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013)
The world isn't divided into good and bad people, however the good guys always win!
Okay, so here's the catch: what you usually expect from a Telugu film is your average dose of masala, glamorous actors, a story that shall keep you gripped at the edge of your seats and you can a few more flashy stuff to this list( all it'd do is populate it with sheer uselessness).
This one's different though, its bold. How you might ask? It's got a flat story some might say but ladies and gentlemen this is reality and it this is as flat and straight honesty will ever get for you.
Acting: pure class in the form of Mahesh and Venkatesh who carry themselves not just with looks but with a form of decency which can be achieved by men who are well decent to say the least. The acting ensemble consists of the classic players in the Telugu film industry and each reciprocate their usual roles to perfection
The story is honest, the screenplay is ecstatic, the dialogues make you want to cry and this time I'm not talking crocodile tears. The background score gives you goosebumps.
Finally spare a thought for the director, this man has taken an ordinary story some would go on to compare it to the old classic "Gundamma Katha" and well designed it taking into account the ideals of modernization to such brilliance that shall not be achievable in the near future.
Men will be men....but well gentlemen are a class apart. Go watch this movie with any sort of company and you shall exit the theater with a smile on your face. The team of SVSC take a bow!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010)
Not the best movie so far , thankfully not the worst either!
At the outset after watching the movie most people(who've read the book that is) would have asked themselves "what in the world did we just watch" I mean honestly speaking this wasn't really the spectacle that everyone was expecting..but its good in bits and pieces
1)The characterization is better than what you'd expect and thankfully the actors deliver when it matters the most 2)Most of the script is straight from the book not much has been meddled with and hence one can say that it is above par in comparison with the rest of the series 3)The lead actors perform well they have certainly raised the bar and they work well in tandem
However there were areas which were overlooked as a result of which the whole thing dint come out well like 1)The pace of the movie is horrible you might start to wonder if your watching Harry Potter - the movie or the Harry Potter the 100 episode TV Show 2)Some bits are totally out of place-riding a motorcycle amidst muggles, no opening scene between the dursleys and harry, and Harry dancing with Hermione( that was beyond hilarious)
Bottom Line:- Time wasn't a factor this time so you cant give excuses like i couldn't fit it all in as i had to compress 700 pages into 2 and a half hours..could have done a lot better with it the entire production unit haven't seemed to learn much from the earlier movie HBP...
Full Marks to the actors though they saved this one from being a disaster hats off to them for making this visually bearable!
