Her Splash
21 November 2017
A friend of mine who liked "Her" like this movie. I can see why. There was no human good enough for each lead in each movie. I was looking for a "Splash" ending & I got it. Spinster and the Beast. And let's demolish the idea that spinsters are not sexual with plenty of hand solo examples. My friend obviously lives in a fantasy world of singlehood.

Birdman Camera Work
28 January 2016
Has anyone noticed that? And seems like Kate Winslet gets her Polish accent after the first scene (which is 25 minutes long) after it is mentioned she was from Poland. Watchable movie but I don't think all these conversations were had before unveilings ...writer's convention? Aging makeup excellent, I forgot Jeff Daniels is as old as he was. Yes, inherent vice gets to act...why are they ex's/mothers always nags? I almost wanted to see the antiques and the traveling she did...may have been more exciting then the sets which were as sealed as the apple. I have to write 10 lines here for this review to be accepted and since I started writing one I may as well not quit since I put this much thought/time into it already.

There Will Be Blood Brokeback Into The Wild
6 January 2016
Very much like a "There Will Be Blood" type movie including length and pace. Mix that in with "Brokeback Mountain" visuals and "Into the Wild" type visuals and score. The latter I liked best out of the 3 movies though I disliked them all. A cinematic achievement on some level granted, but you have to remember Birdman made the film. Unending disconnect from reality for me...the fall into the tree, that did it for me. By that point, I laughed out loud. I attended a screening where DiCaprio spoke and he at one point said he didn't think anyone would find anything wrong with the film which I thought, was he joking? I vacillate between that statement being so or serious.

These ladies are legends and stars - they are not 20 feet from it they are knee deep in it...

I came across this movie as a preview for another film and I got it out of the library. I loved it and the ladies they featured. These ladies are legends and stars - they are not 20 feet from it they are knee deep in it.... I especially like the special features with the extended interviews. How nice it is to even be considered 20 feet from stardom, it is a blessing as well as a position earned through hard work, dedication and love of sharing the talent. It made me think about the position of a background session singer like a background musician...there are so many great musician out there and not all of them are stars, but they are working, well-respected and sought after...what more would anyone want from the entertainment business...it's a reward. These ladies are those people.

Great visuals

I don't like Sondheim, never have ever since I was a kid...why? because there is nothing melodic about his music...can you sing to it? is anything catchy - I do still find myself screeching from time to time "into the woods to grandmother's house" after I saw the play when I was in my teens. I also remember thinking the play was over after act 1 and making my way out of the theater not understanding why audience members were dilly dallying in their seats. Then an announcement was made to please return to your seats for Act 2. I found this same spot in the movie: when all things are resolved halfway through. OK, all children (and adults) want to see the top of the beanstalk, you will not get this in this movie. Why? I ask, when all technology now in cinema can make this possible. And what's with cutting off the giant wife's face for almost her total screen time? The cast is good...I liked little Jack the best. Anna Kendrick is just the same now too me...after 50/50, Up In The Air I don't think she has done a different character - though she can sing, like Little Red whose voice is more pleasing to the eye. I think Meryl Streep became Johnny Depp, and he is hardly in the movie - another guy who plays Ed Wood in most of his movies - but it only really worked in Ed Wood. Christine Baranski, always great, step sisters fun too. Rapunzel lady too modern looking...whatever that means. Best word in movie: "breasts". I think it could be up for Best Picture for cinematography as I was impressed by all things visual.
