Out of the Furnace (2013)
A tight story would have made it a classic movie.Yet watchable
2013 came to an end with two anticipated flicks of Christian Bale.A make-over character in American Hustle with big belly and bald head and a crime thriller Out of the Furnace. But in Out of the Furnace,a movie with huge star cast the character of Harlan DeGroat bagged all the appreciation for his cruel bad guy role who was fond of money and drugs.Harlan Degroat was played by Woody Harrelson. The villain was tough,a cheater and a person who lives his life for his own pleasures.A movie which have Leonardo DiCaprio as one of the producers the whole crew was filled with shining stars of the silver screen.A Scott Cooper directed movie have all the elements except a well built story. But the high performances in acting, music, direction, camera and screenplay overthrew the possibility of this movie to become a bad flick.
The movie is about the story of a group of people living in Rust belt,a place down by financial crisis. Most of the people there depends on a mill for a living.Russel Baze(Christian Bale) enacted the role of an elder brother who worked in the mill to make a living like his father. He had a brother Rodney Baze who was interested in making money the easy way.For that he had a debt to pay to John Petty (William Dafoe) a local money lender.Due to an accident which killed people,Russel Baze was sent to the prison. But things changed for him in the prison. His girl friend Lena(Zoe)left him and his dad died due to illness.meantime,Rodney went for military outing in Iraq. When Russel was released,Rodney went to welcome him.Russel, when he knew that his life was miserable, started to work again in the mill. But Rodney now had a huge amount to pay back ,yet he insisted himself not going for work in the mill.he wanted to live an expensive life for himself. So he started to go for knuckle fights where money would be paid for losing if a deal was made on it.To get more money,Rodney now wanted to be in higher arena with the help of john petty so that he could pay the debts easily. For that they wanted to meet a monster. But Rodney and John Petty never returned. What would have happened to them?To know more, watch the movie.
This movie don't have the high twists and turns to baffle the audience. But it was having life of the people of an under developed region in America and lives of people who were having colorless views on future.Even the region enacted as a character in the movie along with mill.A group of people who are living in a place where they couldn't depend on law for their life keeping. This story cites the bond of relation between father, son, brother and all in a decent manner.Though much of heroic deeds Russel Baze had strength in his character so as the other characters.I rate it as a 7/10 for the movie and mostly for the acting.

Kick-Ass (2010)
Kick-Ass a colorful violent movie
Dave was a common teen studying in his school. But he was too common to be noticed. He didn't have the looks and wits to be a center of attraction in his school along with his friends. He was often bullied by the guys in the street,So one day he decided to become a super hero.Being a comics fan,he arranged his own attire and dressed himself to fight for the justice.he called himself Kick Ass.He became popular in medias during his fight against injustice.Though he failed in his initial encounter with injustice, his life changed when he accidentally met hit girl and her dad Big Daddy. But they had a mission larger than that of Kick Ass'.The father-daughter was well equipped and well arranged in their missions. But kick Ass ,being a normal guy became a part of their mission. What was their mission? Can Kick Ass perform well as a super hero he dreamed off?Rest of the movie deals with it.
this movie too had violence scenes like other Hollywood action flicks. But a girl doing such violent and bloodful violence was critically considered by some viewers.Though it was an action/crime flick it also had its moments to laugh at.Mainly, with Kick Ass ,his friends and the villains son Red Mist. This movie performed well in Box office and my rating to this movie is 7/10!!

Kick-Ass 2 (2013)
Not up to the mark
The movie starts from where the first part ended.Dave is now in senior high school grade.he had the older Hit girl studying in his school.Dave never left his ambition to be a super hero. But ,Mindy the hit girl couldn't continue with her hit girl identity as she had to listen to her dear ones. The hormone changes that was happening with the Hit Girl made her to behave her like a normal teen.As Hit Girl was not able to join Kick Ass for his heroic actions,he arranged a team with the like minded citizens who were interested in becoming super heroes.Kick Ass being the first life super hero was joined in a group started by Colonel with a motto "Justice Forever".But at the same time an enemy group too was formed for the super villains with red Mist as their leader. The game started among them.To know the rest of that happened with these groups is the movie.
Kick Ass 2 was also a good movie. But the scenes showing the girly problems of Mindy was bore at times. That made the movie slow at times. These movies are fun to watch and some sentimental scenes in this movie made it to another dimension. But in all its a watchable movie.I rate the second part with a 6/10! The third part which was rumored as the last part is to be made later.Expecting for that!! More reviews in www.movieholicviews.blogspot.com
Rush (2013)
Amazing,as expected with a racy narration
Rush-I am sure this is one of the most anticipated movie of the year for so many like me.Yes,I was expecting this movie when I heard about the movie plot.
Now coming to the movie, this movie is about the legendary rival between the greats of F1 racing,Nikki Lauda, the Austrian and James Hunt, the English.Their rivalry was well celebrated by the medias of 70's.their rivalry was very special. This movie peeps into the actual relation between the great drivers ever produced in F1 racing due to their extremes in character. Both Lauda and James were from the top families in their respective countries. But both of them were not provided help by their families to realize their biggest dream-to be the world champion of the speed. So they came into the arena by their own terms..In terms of character,Lauda was professional,a sharp automobile engineer and a man who cared about personal relations. He always calculated what he was going to achieve through his deeds. He even said that he could afford a 20 % risk in terms of risk he could afford in racing circuits. He loved a woman and married her lately and always wanted to be her.In short,Lauda made his decisions on behalf of his brains. But James Hunt on the other side was extremely different. He was a playboy to describe him in short. He had women all over his life.He enjoyed his life.He enjoyed his success and was desperate in his loses. He always cared for him.thus, even his married life was a nightmare.James Hunt was a man who followed his heart rather than brains.
Their rivalry started during their F3 circuit when a dangerous move from Hunt made Lauda be on the losing side. This continued to the F1 circuit where Lauda became the world champion in the first year.this made James Hunt angry and decided to win the next season. But that season was followed up by winnings for Lauda at start. Can James Hunt bounce back and realize his dream?Sorry.this is not the rest of the story. The story is much more deep than we think.Rather than their rivalry they had a strong bond between them which was known only to them. They might be enemies. But they couldn't afford anyone between them. Thus it was a celebrated rivalry that medias brought to us.But the movie speaks more of their personal relations.Even when one had a bad time, the other felt bad on that and they tried to compliment each other in their own way. There was no much element of surprise in this movie if we watch the movie after reading what had happened. But the way the actors enacted it,it was amazing at least for me.
Now with the crew, with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl (Goodbye Lenin) as Nikki Lauda, the characters were in right hands.Nothing to speak about the ace director Ron Howard(A beautiful Mind,Cinderella man,Da Vinci Code etc) to be the captain of the ship with Hans Zimmer's music was the anchorman. The crew was amazing .This movie didn't give me a single minute of boredom while watching.Watch the movie full.Hope many of you like it.Since, this movie was up to my hopes,I rate it as a 9/10!!

Ariel (1988)
Aki Kaurismaki:A Master Director having other thoughts for a movie
I came to know about the Finnish master director Aki Kaurismaki from an article I read some days ago. When I checked out on his movies,I found them interesting all the way from the synopsis. So I decided to watch it.As I am having a copy of Ariel ,which was the second one in Proletariat Trilogy i started watching it.It was really a new experience for me from the usual clichés of a movie.Yes,I admit this movie too had clichés,clichés of one obtaining a new road for his life. The movie started off with the shutdown of a mine.Feeling tired off his own life, after advising his son Taisto,an old man commits suicide. When he came to know that nothing left for him to live in that place, the chain -smoker Taisto left the place after taking all his money from the bank account in his father's car. After that Taisto had to be with what the society had for him.He then passed through a robbery, romance with a divorced woman having a child ,then jailed for an unaccountable reason .But he had something in that world for him. That's how he came across Ariel.Ariel was a symbol of hope and happiness. But reaching there was extremely difficult as he had to face losses and the hard times he had to face. Some might feel the acting be emotionless. But believe me,I think Kaurismaki was trying to make understand everyone that while creating a movie of drama genre, there is no need to be over emotional in one's role.Instead if one goes through such a situation in real life the character won't be acting his emotions.Instead they would be in an emotional, nothing -to-live for style. The emotional content in this movie is very clear when Irmeli asked Taisto to be with her all her life ,the last words of Taisto's father before committing suicide and his friend's death wish. Every scene ends up with a darker frame which clearly states what the director was trying to tell through this movie.A movie without much dialogs. But they are there when needed. It's a good watch for a movie in drama genre. My rating for this movie is 8/10!!
Beul-la-in-deu (2011)
Not the greatest:But still watchable
Korean movies always come up with characters that are not normal in our imaginations. What we see often describes the path around us.Sometimes our visions appears to be the thoughts of our eyes. What if a blind young lady who was blind falls into an unexpected situation which demands her life? The movie Blind deals with such a story. Min -Soo,who was a student at Police academy got involved in an accident which killed her brother. She lost her eye sight and the job in the Police. But she was ready to fight against her new conditions. She made arrangements herself to live on her own by technology and speculations. She had a trained dog with her and the technologies with her to survive. But her life changed one rainy night, when she got into a luxurious cab.The cab hit something on the way and the driver told Min Soo that it was a dog.But Min Soo didn't believe what he told as she suspected that it might be a lady. When Min Soo tried to call police, the driver left her on the way and drove the cab. The next day,Min Soo went to Police to file the case. But they didn't believe the blind Min Soo.But later, when a man missing was reported, they seek her help and arranged a Detective named Jo to interrogate.Jo also didn't believe Min Soo at first. But later he also started believing her.As she was blind, she couldn't be able to clear some of the questions. When a offer was made to public regarding to find the car spotted in the accident,a young lad came up to the Police and he told things which were not right with Min Soo's speculations.Whom should the authorities believe? Also where will they reach following this hit and run case? The rest lies with the movie.
This may not be the best as some of the Korean movies. But surely this movie is a watchable Taking off some scenes which we may not find believable. This flick had the usual lazy police officers and the villain was shown from the start..But its a nice suggestion for Korean thriller movie lovers.I rate it as a 6/10 for the movie.
