La película es absorbente y entretenida, y la actuación y los cortes son bastante buenos. La historia también es muy cautivadora - triste, pero inspirador en un sentido. La trama se trata de un ex gangster que quiere escaparse de la vida violenta, y en su viaje se hace amigos con una niña joven con el destino de los Estados Unidos. Las interacciones entre los jóvenes es muy complejo, como la situación que se presenta para ellos. La única queja que le doy, como ya lo mencionó el otro comentario, es el personaje de la niña principal. No es muy simpática – se comporta como idiota muchas veces y la audiencia nunca necesariamente le gusta. Pero así es la vida también – nadie es perfecto. La película se trata con la violencia y muerte, la lealtad, y la amistad en una manera sincero, y lo recomiendo para todos.

El cine Colombiano no es extranjero a la violencia y la muerte, y Perro come perro no es excepción. Toda la película se trata con quien quiere matar a quien. Pero también es mucho mas de eso – introduce una comedia y humanidad a los personajes que es muy inusual para las películas violentas. Los personajes principales son muy cómicos en sus maneras socarrones, y en una manera rara, podemos identificarnos con Eusebio (Óscar Borda) que solo quiere sobrevivir y estar reunido con su mujer. La película es altamente graciosa, entretenida y conmovedora; lo recomiendo para todos si la violencia no es una problema. Definitivamente unas de mis favoritas películas de este género.

La película se centraliza en el apetito sexual de dos amigos y una mujer atractiva. Ellos viajan a una playa lejos para disfrutar y 'coger' entre ellos. Aunque a veces se hace muy incomodo ver todo ese actividad sexual, la película no es apologético por eso; lo celebra. Y tal ves eso es lo que da a esta película tanta poder – la audiencia no puede quitar los imágenes o los situaciones de sus pensamientos por las siguientes días. Pero además del sexo, la película también explora el relación entre amigos íntimos, los secretos que todos mantienen, y de lo que es vivir con otros en su vida. La película es potente, y no lo olvidará fácilmente. Si no quiere ver escenas de sexo largas, definitivamente no quiere ver Y tu mamá también. Si eso no te afecte tanto, vale la pena verlo.

Cross 'Apocalypto', 'Squanto: a warrior's tale', and 'Che', and you've got a plot that approaches La Otra Conquista. But it also brings its own angle to the plot – the most significant conquest is not the land or the people, but their spirit. La Otra Conquista deals with the domination of an entire people's belief system, set in the time of the reign of the Spanish conquistadors 1500's. The main character, the headstrong Aztec prince Topiltzin (Damián Delgado) fights with all his might to resist the imposition of the catholic faith on his people. The movie really pushes the envelope, testing the limits of the human spirit in the face of immovable oppression. Really moving, powerful, emotional, with spectacular acting from Delgado that fantastically carries the movie forward. Just fantastic, with a new take on the age-old story of the unjust conquest of the Aztec people.

La Violin has the uncanny feel of intimacy – we are drawn as an audience into the nerve- wrecking and immensely dangerous business of opposing a ruthless and unforgiving army. It also achieves the expression of such a huge story in such a small setting – we are really only exposed to four important characters. But through these people, a whole struggle of a country is exposed – and in a more general sense, any oppressed people anywhere. This inspiring drama really tugs at your heartstrings – especially Don Plutarco (Ángel Tavira) who simultaneously pulls off the innocent grandpa look and the sly plotter that he has to become to protect his family. A powerful fight-the-power drama that will have you lost in a surreal world of honor and rebellion – I just have to give it a 10/10.

The 'Dirty War' in Argentina, and the disappearances of radicals that plagued that era, had long and lasting effects on the Argentinean people. In the tradition of 'La Historia Oficial', Cautiva follows one of the affected – in this case, a teenage girl who learns that she is not her parents' child, but in fact one of the disappeared children who was forcefully taken from her parents. The emotional trauma and the process of understanding, accepting, and internalizing this kind of massive shock is convincingly transmitted by the actors and the shooting style. The powerful emotional scenes are handled wonderfully by the Bárbara Lombardo in her debut role. This movie really knocks you for a loop, then knocks the wind out of you – really an emotional roller coaster. Excellent film, overall.

Esta drama de misterio hace más que entretener, aunque la actuación es excelente y la historia es altamente absorbente. Esta película también nos hace pensar. El personaje principal investiga la muerte de una mujer joven, pero el obstáculo más grande que encuentra es la propia tribunal donde él trabaja. Pero también hay un elemento de romanza, y el remordimiento que acompaña el abandono del amor. El Secreto de sus ojos nos hace pensar en preguntas importantes sobre la justicia, moralidad, y nuestro responsabilidad para los seres humanos. La actuación de Ricardo Darín es impecable, y la película en general es una placer para ver.

Johnny one hundred pesos was an ambitious project, with an important message about a culture in a strained transition between a military dictatorship and democracy. Despite its strong intentions, however, the movie came together in such a way as to make it uncomfortable to watch altogether. It is heavy on the symbolism, which can be a good thing -- the media's involvement, the role of Chile's youth, and even the timing of the event is significant. And it does have a strong message behind it. But the movie starts to sacrifice plot for the sake of symbolism; a series of nonsensical events occur that don't make sense apart from the symbolic meaning behind them. Add to this the strange, generally unlikeable, almost painful-to-watch main character and the movie just was not salvageable in my opinion, even with its important message. Not an enjoyable experience overall.

One of my favorite movies from Brazil! Completely engrossing, with beautiful camera work and a nail-biting plot, Cidade de Deus tells the heart-racing story of a youth from the slums of Brazil trying to make it as a photographer – and just trying to survive. Each character brings his own contribution to the story, the viewer forms strong bonds with many and an extreme distaste for others – it is like being transported into their world. And any time that happens, I consider it a whopping success. The movie also has a huge message about why things happen, how the cycle of violence gets perpetuated to each new generation. An important movie, as well as entirely engrossing: Cidade de Deus is simply amazing.

This film is uncommonly powerful, with very dark tones but bursting with hope and love. The main character, a jaded and bitter letter writer working in Brazil's largest train station (Fernanda Montenegro), is suddenly burdened with a kid who eventually wins her over. But unlike the common feel-good comedies with the same setup, Central do Brasil takes the viewer on a sometimes hopeless, openly vulnerable, and powerfully emotional journey. You can really feel the connection between the boy and his new caretaker – you can feel all of her emotions, really, because her acting is just that spectacular. The acting, the camera work, the soundtrack, and the beautifully written story all come together to produce just an amazing movie, well worth watching, that may just jerk a tear from your eye.

La segunda película de Alejandro González Iñárrítu, Amores perros, sigue a las historias de tres familias distintas en México, todos conectadas y afectadas por un accidente de auto. En forma tríptico, Amores perros expone las inseguridades y dificultades de tres familias, simultáneamente explorando las limitaciones y detalles oscuros de amor, familia, vida y muerte. Este exposición le da a Amores perros una aplicación universal, porque todos pueden identificarse con uno u otro forma de vida, y los imperfecciones y la humanidad de cada clase se hace visible, especialmente al respeto de amor. La película es grandemente oscuro, intenso, y entretenido (aunque es muy gráfico en unos momentos) y lo recomiendo altamente.

El racismo es uno de los tópicos mas controversiales, y tiene significado en todas nuestras vidas. Pero hay varias formas de odio racial. Bolivia cuenta la historia de un Boliviano, Freddy (Freddy Flores), que se mude a Argentina cuando no encuentre trabajo en Bolivia. La película nos da una mirada a los dificultades de los trabajadores indocumentados, y te hace pensar en como nosotros tratemos a los alrededor. Sin embargo, mucha de la película no tiene trama, y el tiempo pasa muy lentamente. Los momentos finales tienen un impacto tremendo, pero el resto de la película requiere una paciencia tremenda. Si tienes la paciencia, la película vale la pena. Si no, pues tal vez Bolivia no es para usted.

This heartwarming family drama is a pleasure to watch. It follows a young boy, Carlitos (amazingly acted by Adrian Alonso), who has snuck his way into the United States to find his mother (Kate del Castillo), who immigrated to the states years ago to support the family. The obstacles Carlitos faces on his journey through the treacherous south are no match for his unfailing optimism and pure heart. Although the movie approaches a feel-good Disney vibe, it also contains a lot of powerful truths about the dangers and sacrifices in the life of an illegal immigrant, and illustrates the strength of the human spirit under adversity. Really great for the whole family, and leaves you with a sense of hope and happiness about the human condition.

Aquí vemos una representación muy realista de la vida de los inmigrantes ilegales en los Estados Unidos y la lucha contra la barrera lingüística, la inestabilidad del empleo y medio de vida, y la inhabilidad de los Estadounidenses de entender o identificarse con los inmigrantes. Estos dificultades son muy típicos en las vidas de los ilegales, y hace que El norte presente un retrato excelente de esa cultura. La película también está llena de simbolismo y significo, y hace buen uso de la magia y el misterio. Porque es tan triste y tan lleno de dolor, algunos no lo recibirán con gusto, pero El Norte es una película excelente y lo recomiendo para todos que quieren una mirada al mundo de los ilegales.

Esta película maravillosa, que sigue las aventuras de los jóvenes Ernesto Guevara y Alberto Granado por toda la continente de Sudamérica, promete a la audiencia una vista dentro de los eventos que inspiraron a Ernesto Guevara a convertirse al general Che. Aunqus los detalles históricos pueden ser incorrectos o dramatizados, las emociones y pensamientos del joven Ernesto se capturan en estilo experto – casi podemos ver en que piensa Ernesto, y en algunos lados podemos sentir el general Che escapar de su boca y sus acciones. Lo más que eso, a fotografía, actuación, y el valor de entretenimiento excelente hace que Diarios es, en mi opinión, una de las películas mejores de los últimos años – de cualquier género, en cualquier lenguaje.

This hilarious Argentinean comedy is impressively realistic in its incorporation of a hand-held shaky-cam, conversational dialogue, and individual personalities for every single character. The rich and diverse cast of characters immerses us in this entertaining subculture. It's also really funny – the attitudes and witty banters are universally appreciable, legitimately making me laugh out loud several times. But, on the other hand, The Lost Embrace also tackles serious issues like cultural identity, family relationships, forgiveness, and regret. We can identify with the lead character, despite his flaws and sometimes-arrogant attitude, because he deals with many of the same struggles we do. This gritty, smart-alec, and hilarious yet emotionally challenging movie is very worth watching, and might be my favorite movie to come out of Argentina yet!

María es una chica ineducada e insatisfecha con su estación en la vida, que decide trabajar en una industria peligrosa – pero a un costo grande. Yo, como un miembro de la audiencia, me identifico con María porque todos sienten por un tiempo u otro queremos dejar nuestros vidas aburridas y vivir peligrosamente. La historia de María es fascinante y absorbente, y la gran valor de producción le hace un placer para los ojos. Pero el trama oscuro nos hace pensar si era nuestra vida, que haríamos? Maria hace la pregunta, y la respuesta puede ser difícil. Si está buscando una historia de peligro e intriga, pero también con un espíritu humano, María llena eres de gracia es una elección excelente.

La identificación sexual de una persona es de última importancia, especialmente durante los años de adolescencia, cuando la gente descubren la sexualidad y sus preferencias. Para Alex, sus características sexuales atípicos causan inseguridad y sufrimiento para ella y su familia, y abruma sus pensamientos hasta que no parece tener solución. La lucha interno de Alex y sus padres se pone intenso, y la inestabilidad de emociones nos pone ansiosos por casi la película entero – y me encantaba. Es una mirada a una lucha que muchos sienten, y que necesitamos entender con compasión y amor. Le doy una 7 de 10, porque a veces incluyen elementos que no son necesarios a la trama, y trata a la aspecto íntimo de la sexualidad de una niña con un poco de irreverencia.

Machuca es una placer de ver; las payasadas de los niños me pusieron a pensar en mi niñez, y pude identificarme muy bien con el personaje principal. Pero Machuca también tiene un tono triste -- la pérdida de inocencia nos toque a todos en una manera u otro. Este película era fantástico no solo porque está bien hecha, con la fotografía y actuación maravillosa, pero también presenta unas ideas que le hace pensar de lo que es la justicia y la amistad, y como se despliegan en nuestras vidas. Machuca nos da una mirada a lo que nos hace humanos: no es la riqueza, sino la ternura del amor y la hermandad que nos hace a todos humanos. Una gran película con una mensaje importante; le doy una 10 de 10.

Salvador Allende, aunque a veces puede ser muy lento y continúa por varios horas, tiene mucho que enseñarnos de lo que paso en el periodo formativo de Chile en los años 1970's. Los secuencias de archivo, las entrevistas de sobrevivientes, y el narración de Patricio Guzmán ofrecen un estudio exhaustivo de la vida y muerte de Salvador Allende. Como documental, es muy completo e impresionante, pero como película no tiene ese factor de entretenimiento o importancia que puede absorber a la audiencia. Si quiere saber más de Chile o su historia, Salvador Allende es un tesoro; pero si no te interesa el conocimiento académico de la historia de Chile, o quiere ver una versión más emocionante, miren en otro lado.

Tony Manero puede ser la película más grosera, repugnante, y espantosa que he visto por mucho tiempo, pero eso es que lo hace tan fuerte como es. La película nos tira imágenes que muchas veces no queremos ver, y nos pegue con groserías que crean un tono muy oscuro y sucio. El tono complementa la mensaje que critica a la cultura de Chile que quiere aparecer como los Estados al costo de la integridad, libertad, y felicidad de su gente. Aunque sí transmite su mensaje efectivamente, no es para los que tienen corazones débiles, y no es para los que no quieren sentir incómodos por una hora y media. Sobre todo, le doy un 8 de 10.

La Película del Rey follows a spurned director who suffers a string of unfortunate setbacks, who each time becomes more and more determined to finish his project. The journey of the director as he tries to get funding, train actors, and improvise scenes is exciting, and the string of misfortunes that befalls him can sometimes be humorous, but jumping into it in a comedic mindset, La Pelicula del Rey fell pretty flat. Although the situations in this Argentinean comedy can be outlandish and the movie has some great moments, it is not especially funny as a whole. The satire of the film is rich, however, and provides the real value of the movie. If you're in the mood for a comedy, go elsewhere, but if you're looking for a clever satire about the Argentinean film industry, this is your movie.

The unique, borderline bizarre style of Bolivar was particularly entertaining, but the real value of the movie was its underlying political and cultural statement. The quotes that leap forcefully out of Robinson Díaz's mouth speak of a misused and abused cultural icon that has been used as a tool to sway the public. The icon of Bolivar, along with icons like Che Guevara and Salvador Allende, has taken on a life of its own, and has been used for purposes that the men themselves may have stood against. The ravings of a half-mad soap opera actor, the incredulity of a kidnapped president, and the cooing of the beautiful Amparo Grisales fully entertain while still conveying this important message.

This movie is easily one of my favorite Spanish films. It is a powerful story of an awakening from ignorance and the pursuit the truth, not from one of the disappeared victims of the Dirty War that traumatized Argentina in the 1970's, but of a middle-class history teacher who unknowingly supports it. As the story unfolds, we learn more and more that those closest to her may have the most to hide, and we are made painfully aware that ignorance does not excuse us from our responsibilities to justice and humanity. The drama and mystery are thick, almost tangible, and will keep you enthralled until the last shocking, eerie moment.
