Halt and Catch Fire: NIM (2016)
Season 3, Episode 9
10/10
Perfect episode
7 September 2020
Just perfect. The writing & direction (that first scene, showing 4 years have passed; doing exposition without actually doing exposition), the acting (the chemistry between Joe & Cam is off the charts here) with a pinch of comedy (the S printer guys are back!). Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

American Gods: A Prayer for Mad Sweeney (2017)
Season 1, Episode 7
4/10
More stalling
13 June 2017
Whereas the first couple of episodes of American Gods were excellent TV, with the promise of an intriguing story, these last couple of episodes have left me frustrated. All of sudden, the focus moves away from the main protagonist (Shadow Moon) and the oncoming war between old & new gods. Instead we're told the story of Laura Moon over no less than three episodes that actually moves the plot AWAY from the main story line and in this last episode the story of Essie Macgowan (who is portrayed by the same actress as Laura Moon for no discernible reason) and how Mad Sweeney ended up in the US.

Looking back over the last seven episodes, we've had some interesting ideas, some gorgeous visuals, but also a lot of disjointed scenes with no clear narrative on how it all fits together.

Ah well. Next week we're already at the season finale. Let's hope the writers manage to bring it all together in a satisfying manner and set up season two.
