Life (2017)
It could have been better
Life (2017) from director Daniel Espinosa is not original movie at all, but has it's own unique moments.
Movie follows group of 6 astronauts, group itself works very well, you can see and believe they are real group of astronauts and friends, not just actors playing them, where the movie lacks is when u divide group and look at characters one by one, you don't have much, some characters are developed more than others, but that's normal, problem is some of them make very stupid choices for smart people, but that's due to writing, not acting.
Character I liked the most was Hugh (Ariyon Bakare), his motivation was best in movie, his character was very well developed and used, also there is one very horrific part of the movie, that could be done only with him, and it was done very well. Other characters were pretty much forgettable, some more than others.
Also I see this movie as having 2 parts, first part is where movie shines and where it has most of it's originality, there are some beautiful shots of space station, earth from space, inside of station etc. Cinematography big + from me.
Second part is where it falls apart for me, when alien creature starts growing, movie loses it's mysterious tone and becomes horror, that for me is done just for the sake of horror. And biggest problem of all is that movie loses all of it's little originality, although not original, it could have done something original, by that I mean how story progresses and finishes, because ending also was unoriginal and predictable.
In conclusion, I can't see this movie as being very well remembered, for me personally not bad movie, but nothing new and memorable. If it was whole on the level of the first part of movie, I think I would give it a bigger grade, like this it's 6/10 for me.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Modern society vs family.
Captain Fantastic (2016), from director Matt Ross is a highly emotive family drama, which is special in it's own way, not like your average "every day" movie.
It's about family that refuses to live by today's "rules and standards", and goes on to live in nature. Whole casting, along with main star Viggo Mortensen is fantastic! You really believe they are family, that takes you to a adventure with them, through self-discovery, inner fight with themselves for their way of life and philosophy, fight with others who don't agree with them, and possible mistakes. Movie establishes great question, which is: Is it better to be protected by lies or faced with the truth? And gives it's answer to that question. Vigo Mortensen (father) has his own inner fight in which he is faced with question is he a good father, would his children have better life without him.
This movie is decorated by beautiful cinematography, because of beautiful shots of nature, but also there are shots of urban cities and industry, in comparison of those shots is point of this movie. And the point is: what means to be normal family and does normal family needs to fit in today's patterns of society, to be normal? Music in movie is also great, because in every moment it helps audience to awake feeling which director is aiming for. Movie is paced very well, and in it's 2 hours it never got boring.
In conclusion beautiful film for whole family, that brings real values of life on screen, and shows audience what it means to be true family in both good and bad times.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Mel is back, in style!!!!
Hacksaw Ridge (2016) This is one of the best movies of the year, if not the best.
Don't get me wrong, this movie is not flawless, but Mel knows how to strike it, first in choosing a story, religious and patriotic, that really fits him. Then he knows how to create atmosphere so the whole movie looks somehow big, epic etc. Film is nicely put in two parts, first part is more of a drama and second part is war with drops of drama and thriller. Maybe the weakest part of the movie is that last sequence, that is generally low point of biography movies, when hero feels little unrealistic. Maybe I'm little bothered by Mel's one sided story, but that is a big plus also, he doesn't try to please audience, but himself. He was like that in Braveheart too.
When it comes to actors, role of Vince Vaugh as Sergent Howell was fantastic, he was bringing balance to the story and toning it down a little, which is good thing in this movie. Andrew Garfiled is good and he is developing in a very good actor. Teresa Palmer was great in her role of Doss' girlfriend, she and Garfield really shine together.
Conclusion: Very good war or anti-war movie depends how you see it, just a little weaker than already mentioned Bravheart, it's 9/10
Minority Report (2002)
You always have a choice
I just saw this movie and i liked it very much. Steven Spielberg really knows how to make a good movie. I could feel Stevens imagination through whole movie, this movie was interesting and intensive for whole 145 minutes. Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell did great job in their roles. This movie also have some good ideas, that we could use in real world in future. Strongest message of this movie is that you always have a choice, and those who always complain about not having choice are just trying to justify themselves. I can also see some similarities between this movie and Equilibrium, so everyone who liked Minority Report, should see it too.
Big recommendation for everyone who hasn't seen this movie. Cheers.
