Duplex (2003)

Proof that all tastes differ.
17 July 2004
Loved this movie. Found it very witty; there were several parts I thought I had successfully predicted, it turned out I was in for better scenes than I was expecting.

One friend hated this film, a few loved it, and the rating sucks. I rated it a '9', one of my higher (I think). It appears that the ratings of Comedy and Horror films are difficult to generalize about, in comparison to the average film on here.

Oopps, I talked more about the film's rating than the film, but those who liked the production understand why; this one doesn't appear to be appreciated.

Some great moments...
10 July 2004
I greatly enjoyed the scene where the ability to "go back in time" (that sounds so corny typing that, since so many movies have made use of the ability) found our hero about to be filmed with the local child molest in a kiddie-pr0n film.

What he said to his torment-er (as someone older and wiser, and of course -- knowing what he was doing to his daughter) was classic. I'd be very surprised if someone saw this film and didn't think of a situation where they wish they had a witty comeback that they thought of years later, or what they'd like to do to a person 'knowing now what they did not know back then'.

A little tiring was the ability to leap through time, and reminded me of the two episodes of Quantum Leap that I saw years and years ago, which probably isn't a good thing.

Good concepts and plot, but fell short..
3 January 2004
Warning: Spoilers
* Semi-Spoiler type stuff in here *

I think this film had a lot of potential and as someone who enjoyed the previous two, I couldn't help but record this one on TIVO when I saw it on TNN recently. However, I was let down.

There were some good concepts here -- the mad scientist experimenting on the corpses (er.. 'dead', that is..), the typical fight for survival of this series, etc.

However, I found myself bored. It wasn't interesting to watch a zombie attempt to use no short of a half dozen items (ranging from a phone, headphones, to a gun, which has some outcome and bearing later in the flick), and the constant bickering of the scientists and 'army men' got old. There was just as much time spent watching the two groups of humans bicker as there was actual fighting/bickering with the zombies.

While I'm sure we wouldn't get along great if faced with the dead taking over the earth, you can watch the conflict that humans have with each other from every TV/Movie from "COPS" to "QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY", so why did the human/human battle consume such a large part of a film depicting a fight against malevolent undead forces?

I guess I wanted to see a horror film with some intelligence, and ended up getting to see human conflict. I wanted zombie conflict.

A bit of a letdown, for a movie I was really looking forward to. I fast forwarded 45 minutes of the two hours and really didn't miss much.

Perhaps I'm just simple minded...

But the one thing that really kept me watching this film was seeing if the odd couple would actually have sex in the end, form a relationship, etc. The factors being against them (ie: being in current marriage, an age difference, etc), but obviously having a 'clicking' for each other. That kept me interested as did some of the lack of understanding for the events going on around them, but did find this the film to be slightly slow-moving.

Very enjoyable!

And one of the few movies in recent memory that didn't bore me after two hours. Fairly predictable (there's no WOW factor here), but well done and contains some good advice for living as well (I'll consider the quotes near the end of the film to be some of the better ones I've heard, reflecting upon life)

Lucky Numbers (2000)
Reminded me a bit of Seinfeld!
22 November 2003
A great comedy! I think some others were dissapointed that the movie/characters were not more complex (Probably due to seeing Travolta after Pulp Fiction, eh?), but again -- this is a comedy.

The movie reminded me slightly of Seinfeld, due to the character's interaction with each other and the small quirks of the characters creating the final outcome. (ie: making something out of nothing!)

I particularly enjoyed the Lazy Cop character for some reason, or perhaps related to him. :)

Extremely creative film!
17 November 2003
Extremely creative film in a day of mundane gun fights and terrorist-fighting films. Creating a false cause created a great film. I'm not sure if film would fall into the catagory of drama or comedy, but a number of scenes had me falling out of my chair.

Proof of what money will do for a movie's appeal!
17 November 2003
While the movie didn't have outstanding Writers, Soundtrack, etc - the movie had 2 things going for it - <1> A known name and history (Who can forget old Black & White Films of Godzilla crushing Tokyo?) <2> Money to spend on great special effects.

Together, this made for a pretty watchable film, and even the characters had a good amount of development in them for a film that title that traditionally spends a lot more time on the "monster" itself.

I can't say much which hasn't been said by other(s) reviews
15 November 2003
But the fight scenes of Jason and Freddy were the most enjoyable. And funny. One of the better films of (both) series, so if you're a fan of either 'monster', this is a treat. If you're a fan of both film series, you're not even having to pay twice to see this, so it's a treat for you. :)

The first one was far better...
15 November 2003
.. due to the fact that the action happened on more places than just a Bus.

The aspect of having 60-70% of the movie occur within such tightly confined quarters really cuts down on the creative elements that could be introduced. In addition, I found myself waiting for each character in the film to be singled out and killed, one by one. Greatly enjoyed the 'surprise ending' to the first Jeepers Creepers and greatly enjoyed getting to leave the theatre at the conclusion of this... nonmasterpiece.

Super Sucker (2002)

Comedy that just doesn't work.
15 November 2003
After watching this movie, I decided that all movies that I do not finish will be given a "1" rating on IMDB - after all, if someone who wants to watch a movie is watching one, and then stops it because it's horrid, there's something seriously wrong.

I stopped after 25 minutes. The biggest allure of this movie was personal, as the lead character looked like an awful boss I had, and I enjoyed watching him live a sad existance as a door to door salesman. If I hadn't of been for this fact alone, I think this would've held my intelligence for 18 minutes. Maybe 19.

This is a bad movie due to the fact that you can only make so many jokes about a door to door salesman, and when they're not good, the entire idea collapses. Yes, we understand his life is pathetic, but that's not good enough to make a movie. The lives of the people in Office Space were pathetic (wait, I'm like those people), but I'd consider that movie to be about a nine on the laughs scale, while this movie got a 1.

If I had a kid sister, she could've done better for a 3rd grade english project. Pass on this one.

Hulk (2003)
6/10
If you're able to get through the slow beginning.. a treat.
15 November 2003
I haven't read of the Hulk comic books, so the beginning of the movie (where we get the background and setup for the rest of the film, of course) was a little bit dull to me, I have to admit. I was really looking for an action film, but in order to keep fans of the comic book series happy (in being faithful to the written version) and also those into mindless big-budget action, I guess both were needed. It'd just be nice if they could've perhaps integrated the two together in a more condusive manner. Regardless, I really did enjoy the later scenes of the film, especially the Helicopter-to-Ground fights. Not a bad film, but the second hour is a lot more enjoyable to those who haven't turned a comic book page in many years, most likely.

Thoroughly entertaining and not a dull moment.
15 November 2003
.. make this a great film! My only semi-negative about the film is that some of the fight scenes seemed a little Matrix-ish at first, but then the "lights out" effects won my attention back for the 9 seconds it was away. Looking forward to the second Volume.

I don't remember a dull moment.
15 November 2003
This was an outstanding movie. I enjoy both action films and comedy films. I couldn't help but laugh at Arnold's robotic comments to us (the inferior human race) as there were so nonemotional and .. well.. robotic. Telling Kate Brewster to (essentially) shutup in the back of the stolen truck had me dying in laughter, since I could imagine the governor saying that to his kids in the backseat of a minivan.

Okay, enough of my sarcasm -- this was just a great, nonstop action movie. I didn't see the first, really liked the second, but the third (and I'd guess final, since our lead character is both getting old and in politics) will be the highlight of the series.

The love scenes of this movie were great. And, I enjoyed the rest.
15 November 2003
For some reason, I just thoroughly enjoyed the "love scenes" of this film, despite the fact that they were between two characters who were junkies. The laying on the couch facing each other, the thinking of each other, etc -- these were all done better (at least to me) in representing "young love" than any other film I've seen. The rest of the movie is very dark (and great), but to me, these scenes are the ones that stick out. One of my all time favorite movies.

Nonstop Action -- great *HORROR* Film
3 November 2003
It seems to me that a lot of people who do not like horror films watch them. They then wil comment on how bad the movie was, how gruesome, how it didn't have a plot, etc. But, that's what the genre is.

This is not a romantic love story about young couples -- it's a gruesome, gory horror film. That's what I paid $9.00 to see, and that's what I got.

The action was nonstop, and I felt fully immersed for two hours.

I didn't give it a 10, since it wasn't revolutionary, but it was excellent.

Yet another movie that doesn't redefine average.
3 November 2003
Because, to redefine average, a movie would have to be .. well, more average than average.

I gave this movie a 5, since it held my attention (mostly because Ashton is so cute and seeing glimpses of him shirtless hold attention), but it's certainly nothing memorable.

It's just a ho-hum movie with nothing revolutionary or groundbreaking.

Oh, and I did laugh once. But, I can't even remember when.

AVERAGE!

It wasn't *that* bad.. was it?
10 October 2003
Since the movie's been rated as one of the worst on IMDB, you'd think it'd be awful, but I was able to get through it - with the help of a friend. It'd be nice if they had more actual "terror" type scenes, such as the sadistic doctor, or more "action" scenes such as the final confrontation, or even *any* scenes that focused on more than the concept of logging in to the website. I found it repetitive to watch a group of people log into a website, and be greated in a (very) similar manner.

It's not an awful movie, and it's great that it's on the video store shelves -- if it' $.99 night and everything else has been rented out.
